- Tales of Graces f has become one of my all time favorite JRPG’s and that is down to many reasons, but mostly the combat. In this review I’m going to dive into all the reaosns I think this game is underrated as well as point out the negatives and what it could’ve done better. I adore this game, every character, every system, every story beat. The whole lot is just amazing.
I can totally relate to the emotion when it comes to its end. For me, while I loved and adored Cheria and Asbel's story, it was Sophie's arc that really hit me. I loved that the Future Arc really goes into her character the most as it was the part of the main arc that feels underdeveloped. Her struggling to come to terms with the fact she'll seemingly never grow up, that her effective immortatilty will mean she'll have to watch everyone she loves die. It was heartbreaking and to see her get to grow up and realize that while she'll have to be left behind she'll still be an integral part of the Lhant family for generations. That final scene of her reading a story to Asbel's great great grandson just like she saw in her dreams. Oh man that broke me so much. It's so beautiful.
Then the systems! Graces has by far some of the best systems in any JRPG I've played. The battle mechanics are superb and the best in the series by far. The Title system is at it's best in this game also. Then the Eleth Mixer is just fantastic, I had so much fun using it to gain buffs throughout. The cooking system via the mixer is the most satisying in the franchise as well, not worrying about ingredients but instead battle requirements. It made you change up play to gain the cooking buffs. Also it made each new recipe discovery exciting.
My only grumbles are like you the puzzles. The optional desert temple one the most, mainly because just one small mistake and the entire room of 40 switches would reset. I remember getting down to the last two and having the whole room reset because I messed up. I was not amused lol.
I also would've liked abit more closure on Pascal and Hubert. I think there was room for abit more there but Pascal continues to be (on the outside at least) clueless to Huberts feelings towards her.
I finally got the platinum last month after first playing the game in 2012. I loved it back then but I fell out of gaming for along time. Returning to this game was a joy and made me fall in love all over again. I might even go for the platinum again as the game has different region trophy lists.
I wish this series had got an Anime like some of the other Tales games. Unfortunately this is one of the most underserved entries in the series, it didn't even get a proper character illustrations artbook like so many of the other entries.

Funny fact Hubert swords are designed by him based on a kamen rider type of toys he adored as a kid(and still respects a lot now)
I thought it was power rangers, because the thing he was fanboying about is called the sunscreen rangers and all the figureeenes have different colors?
But holy damn imagine him seeing Ludger in max level chromatus form he'd go bonkers

Finishing the main arc after 8 years since the last time i played it, still one of the most solid tales of game i ever play. Complex but fun battle system to learn , instead of just spamming arts ( cof cof Yuri shining fang).
With tons of content and challenges after the f arc.
Story is your typical tales of game (the last one before the "dark" stories with xillia and the rest) and i love the interaction between the characters, coming from a toxic anoyying genius girl like Rita to a cheerful and crazy girl like Pascal, damn tyvm Graces F.

I started playing this on my Nintendo Wii, at some point (early in the game) it always crashed. So I never managed to progress further.
Also never had the Ps3 console. Hope that they make it available in the modern platforms. Definitely looking forward to play through it

Sophie as an immortal non human character that don't have to become human physically to be happy and be herself is such a nice story, she found her place, from a little sister/foster child for Asbel and Cheria to their family's guardian and a foster mother figure to their lineage
That's so nice, immortal characters don't have to be always tragic, they can have a meaningful role that fulfill them, outside of being a badass (that she is too, I wouldn't want to be the bully of her friend's great great great grandchildren 😂)
From a quasi emotionless magical android to a caring very powerful being, Sophie is a cute character :)
Surprised you didnt mention that F added a brand new combat mechanic that you can even carry into newgame+

great video. i would say graces f has the best combat out of all jrpgs if we aren't counting stuff like KH2 cause that'scloser to an action game. Insane depth with its mechanics and systems. Great variety of artes and mystic artes. All characters are fun to use even the healer. whenever I think of combat in jrpgs nothing even comes close to graces. its almost as good as a full blown action game like DMC, while having all the customization, content, and replayability of a full blown JRPG. its actually insane how good this games gameplay is considering its age, and how little influence its had on the series as a whole

Can't believe this isn't at least on PC. All the Tales Of and Persona games Sony sits on lol. I'll never have a PS5 at this rate so I don't care.

You're one of the very few who actually loves Graces and it's a damn shame because Graces has the best gameplay out of all the Tales games. The story is fine, it's anime after all, characters are all around great, and the music are overall good.

People hate this game. It's amazing. I love it. It's what got me into the tales series. Being UK we didn't have ps2 games or ps1. Got this on ps3 cheap.

It is also my favorite tales of game. Due to story, gameplay, accessibility, but of course it have flaws.
Wallbrigde is a pain but it is something I would see in the real world but the battery dungeon was horrid.
