😀 Welcome to Sailing Artha 😀
Hi there, my name is Nicole, and my single-handed journey began in 2022 on a Columbia 26. It now continues on my new boat, a 28’ Bristol Channel Cutter named Artha (the name translates to “that which allows one to pursue her dream.”) I’m on a giant adventure of seeing the world and leaving it a better place! You might try to introduce some work schedule planning. For instance, setting a 15 or 20 minute timer that you obey to take water breaks and short rests. Establish hard stop alarms for meals, bedtime, etc. These types of habits developed now will prove valuable now and later in life. It's very hard to do when we are young, strong and can push through. Just something to consider. Best to you.
Thank you for this good suggestion.
You better be careful with that storm, my wishes for luck are with you
Thanks for checking. Hurricane Beryl scooted right by us here in Luperon. It was just a regular day with regular winds and a tiny bit of rain.
So glad it missed you, be safe !
Beryl is supposed to swing towards Jamaica and Haiti, but as weather is unpredictable best to prepare yourself. Take care skipper!
Thanks! Hurricane Beryl scooted right by us here in Luperon. It was just a regular day with regular winds and a tiny bit of rain.
Good morning i hope your knee is much better now❤
Appreciate it!
I hope your knee gets better and you don't need surgery. But if it's a bursectomy (removal of the bursa that keeps filling) I had that done and it was such an easy and quick recovery (at twice your age). Again, I hope it just heals on its own. You deserve so much credit for your spirit!
Thank you! A little update: the fluid came back a third time and then turned into solids. So, I’d now have to get surgery to remove the solids, or I can keep the solids until the discomfort makes me want to get surgery. It’s good to hear though that yours was easy and a quick recovery.
@@SailingArtha sorry to hear that. The bursectomy recovery really was just half a day on crutches and one day on ice, spent on the couch with my dog and books. Not bad at all! I'll be thinking of you.
Thanks for getting a motorcycle helmet that fits well. I'm sure you will find it more comfortable once you get the foam broken in to your head and face shape.
Yes, it’s much more comfortable!
I always look forward to your channel, and thank you for sharing your experiences with us. :)
Thank you 😊 I love putting content out for you guys and sharing my journey. In a lot of ways, it makes it worth living it
Be careful with that hurricane passing by hopefully it stays south of you

Awesome. You are getting so close to splashing day! The knee soak it in ice water. Do this 2-3 time a week. You also might need to get it drained. I had the same problem. Ice water soaks while uncomfortable really help.
I envy your ability to jump in with crowds of people. As I get older I don’t do large groups anymore.
Edit: I see it was drained. Ice bath trust me a stranger on the internet I know. But the ice bath works.
Agreed. Some time walking in the ocean will help too. Although the ocean water is relatively warm it's cooler than your core temperature. Plus, the hydrostatic pressure will help as well, and it's low impact exercise. I am walking the pool 3 times per week under doctor's orders.
Yes, cooling the swell will help, it’s adviced in case of your knee.
Thank you
Thank you for this
I hope you don't push your knee too hard and are staying safe in this monster storm.
Thank you 🙏 fortunately Hurricane Beryl scooted right past us. It’s been a regular time here with the trades and a tiny bit of rain.
I'm starting to think that sailing is the least of your worries. You look like and act like a kid I know, It is fun to watch.
😊
Know your limits. That is a constant struggle. Those limits can change, up and down, depending on the situation. Are you getting stronger, or weaker and getting enough rest to rebuild between activities? Are you injured? Are you properly nourished? Are you drinking enough water and keeping track of the humidity to avoid heat exhaustion during hot weather? etc. Stay safe out there!
Thanks for this checklist!
The knee looks not as swollen as it did last week. Fingers crossed u won't need surgery.
Thank you! Unfortunately the fluid never went away and turned solid. The only way now is through surgery, but it’s a minor procedure and not urgent.
Yes, you must take your breaks. You are not a machine, Sweetpea. Be good and rest regular, it's as important as getting the work done. Please take care. Looked like a nice day for you and a very lucky boy to spend some time with our Angel. Great video. 💝
😃
Your videos are always a joy to watch! Thanks for sharing your adventures. You work very hard and will be rewarded for all your toil and sweating , and will be sailing again soon. You have the most beautiful smile. Keep looking up 🥰😎
Thank you! 😃
Hope the knee is getting better. Take care of your body sister, u only get one…. B safe
Thank you
oats. I never see Oats in your very appreciated vid’s ;-) …and focus on cooling your knee 😊
My videos are scheduled out a little, so any suggestions from recent videos wouldn’t make it in the next video out. But if you had suggested oats to me in the past, thank you!
I see you finally broke 12 subs. Congrats!!
Wooo! I’m excited. Thanks for being part of it.
ON ON !!
😃
As always, an enjoyable video. Thanks. So sorry your knee is being such a bother. Wishing you a quick recovery.
Thank you!
Back in the day when i was there, There were lots of boats in the Harbor being robbed of electronics etc. Some say it was the harbor "police"... lol, or at least in on it .. I remember Bruce the Big Irishman and his Wife Veronica, and their Daughter.. A few other regular liveaboards there.. And of course knew all the Bar and restaurant owners... I am sure it's completely different now... I would have loved to have bought the old "Yacht Club" Property and restored it.. but alas.. didn't have that kind of money..
Yup! I know the names! Their family bought my little boat, Arta!
Happy Saturday to you as well. Thanks for sharing and hope you give your knee as much healing time as possible!
Thanks!
Love the tunes during the car ride!
😃
The adventures of wounded knee 😅😊😂
Yea haha
@SailingArtha hop along sounds cute too 😄 🤣 😂
Awesome! You look great! knee looks better! Keep pushing forward! ➡️🤙
Thank you!
Glad to see that knee brace 🙏. I’m 52 and only started hearing that little “time for a break” voice a couple years ago, I’d be in better shape if I’d started hearing it at your age. Take care and keep at it you’ll be back in the water in no time 😉
Thanks 😊
Ahh and of course "GiGi"... The Local Dentist lady there is a friend.... Good times back then in between my work on Sportfish boats at Cap Cana, and Working for dive shops in Bayahibe, and Las Galeras...Ha Ha ha.. Agua Verde... I have a video of that on my TH-cam channel....
So cool, trip down memory lane. I’m sure some things have changed, but the way you’re describing it, much has stayed the same.
@@SailingArtha Noticed a LOT more boats in the harbor.... Back in the day.. Most went there to die after bad crossings..lol
Good Morning Sailgirl!!
Good morning!
Glad to see your smile.❤
Thanks
Hi there! You know, you are as we says localy "ÖVERSTYV” 🤩 (just used in my hometown, Jönköping, and around it) . I don´t think "uncle translate" have a clue what it means, so I try to explain…. direct translation is "over-stiff" 🤣🤣 If you are "styv/stiff” you are like a champ, and "over", well, then you are beyond that. And you are unstoppable, positiv despite setbacks, like this with your knee…. glad to hear that you have a doctor taking care of you.
By the way, you probably heard of the depression/ hurricane moving in on Barbados the morning of 1july. It’s path will be south of DR, but if wan´t to be updated I can recommend the youtub channel "Mr Weatherman". He is also "överstyv", not as much as you thoug, but he is reliable and credible.
As always, take care, stay safe, have fun 😎
Aha, I love this! Thanks for sharing. Hurricane Beryl scooted right by us here in Luperon. It was just a regular day with regular winds and a tiny bit of rain. Thanks for checking.
So good to hear you are safe 😎 The worst thing we have had here where I live was "Gudrun"! …..A hurricane with sustaind winds of 42m/s, 94mph. But that was 2005, almost 20years ago. For sure, it nocked down 25% of all trees in this part of Sweden, but far from the miserable things that hits the Carribien several times every year.
As always- stay safe, have a nice day and don´t do anything that I wouldn´t do 😇
Surely you jest Nicole. Tell a guy to be careful? Good job on the sanding. Swelling is part of the body's natural way of protecting injuries. Now I can play Mother. Yes, overdoing it is not great. But just as important is forcing yourself to monitor caloric, water and protein intake. You are working, but your body is working as well trying to heal itself. Out of Mother mode now. Your boat is coming along nicely. We are all excited for the upcoming big float. The pups are so cute. If Kaijin is out he's by your side.
Good point haha and thanks for the care
Poor leg! But less swollen.
Yes, thanks!
When possible I try to eat banana’s and papaya while working and lots of water 👍
Makes sense. I’ll have to get better at that.
😊
😃
You look like you are in a happy place in life.
I am 😊
Poor guy , he needed to take out of gear to back up
Probably so, yea
👍👍😻🥳
😃
🇹🇷🇹🇷👍👍
😃
Hey that hurricane ran through DR -- Are you okay!? worried now!

You shout never put your legs on the dark or and vehicle if you get in a crash your legs break from you nee to you hip Gordon up in to your chest or the bones rip through the muscles out of your body you pick what you would like
Sounds terrible
TONS of Abandoned or "Disputed" Property's in the DR... I have a Friend who lost his ass, (er Property on a major piece on a cliff near Samana... Completely outfitted with solar and 2-3 houses there.. Due to (Dominican Family disputes) Say you go and get a Lawyer and purchase land/house etc. THEN after your there a while and have improved the Property.. A relative of the person that sold it to you will come and say they have a claim on it.... And the DR legal system will fail you and the local "Police" will kick you out.. I have seen it too many times.... It's mostly Canadians who have lost major property's there.. I used to do a lot of Hiking in the Las Galeras area. and saw tons of for sale signs on abandoned beautiful places there... Not that you could really buy them.. The Dominicans involved in Real Estate there are very shady.. and it takes years and many $$$$ to actually get a clear title of ownership... Well I am glad your having fun...
tell him to stand up next time...
He is supposed to take it out of gear before backing
Gotcha
Why do women always get a pass and never take the risks and danger ? They just wait safely on the sidelines to see if the man will make it. If he doesn't, it's "Oh well, on to the next dude"
Hmmm.. something is off here.
I hear a South African accent [am I correct]
Yes! There are quite a few South Africans here. They are all super nice.
We South Africans are all nice people.😂😂
He really sucks at riding that bike
When does common sense kick in?
