    How on earth can you make them move so much? I tried with som equal size metal balls and a 6kV DC power supply and they hardly move when I move them right next to each other

      Perhaps the torsion constant of the wire in your setup is significantly different? You can see in the movie at 21:48 that it's about 1.5E-6 N/degree for our unit.
