The bass is the absolute core of this song in my opinion. Yes the riff is iconic! Yes the drums are explosive! But the bass holds the emotional core of the song, the feeling of giving up yet still continuing on anyway... the feeling of knowing how terrible everything is yet still pushing yourself to keep going, be it a break-up, a loss, or a financial disaster.
To me all of that is held in those few low notes looping throughout this song, and it would be completely different without it.
Exactly. To me the bassline during the chrorus, the 8 (F) - 6 (D#) - 9(C#) really hit home

@Hehe Lolo I’d say easy if you finger pick the strings , my friend plays bass and finds this harder with a plec …. Trying to get him to change his style.
@@danielwilder7835 pick is harder sometimes, plus you can drop the *** thing and they rotate in your fingers :-(
@@NickHarman he's still using a plec when we play live but he's trying real hard to finger pick especially as we've started playing jazz numbers in our sets that requires some slapping

I feel like this really needs to be picked. I think the original was picked, as was popular for bass in this era in this alt rock pop songs. It doesn’t sound forceful enough. In the original he’s really pounding away at that bass, you can hear it.

Well, I think he does a very good job, whether it is played with an Pic in the original recording or not, I think we should be glad and appreciate the work he has done with the tabs and playthrough. I sometimes think that people take it for granted that they get free stuff on the internet. There are always people who think that they have to critizise things when there is no reason to do so.

There's no doubt pick adds attack but fingers, I find , make playing 8ths a bit easier.
