      So turning and not tilting can cause these symptoms?
      The barrel not slotting into the shoulder and staying really up and down to where the barrel is above the ear, arm bar from rotation, cutting across the zone, being able to only hit away pitches well, and hitting upper handle-bat area?

    I'm sitting here, watching these videos and thinking back to every coach I ever had. EVERY SINGLE ONE... Taught me to swing down on the ball, squish the bug, weight balanced evenly, and don't "drop your shoulder". I was a 4yr starter at my school and I have watched a ton of videos so I can better teach my son and man do I think I could have been so much better had I did my own research on proper mechanics. I was more of a trust your coaches kid and didn't think about the fact that most of them didn't play after highschool or JuCo. I won't make that mistake with my sons. I will research and due my best to get them great coaching. Great video and thank you for all of your help especially the teaching your kids to catch videos. I bought 6 swax balls immediately and it has changed everything. Thank you!

    Pitches break in to the batter, but they tell them to "go out and get pitch in front of/over the plate" and maybe in geometry of cutting down arch of pitch it makes some sense, but I suspect youre right based on Japan/S korea videos where looks like theyre catching ball deep with violent half swings that give ball top spin in air etc. Adjustment anticipation seems inevitable over uniform swing though. Default, backing front shoulder windmill swing sounds right though.

    When your tilting do you have your shoulders go straight back?
    Ex. Hips twisting and the shoulders tilt directly back, causing alot of stretch and batspeed? The twisting causes the shoulders to come around. The shoulders get your bat below the ball on a good plane and help get the barrel working back... Right?

      No, you will end up pulling outside pitches if you twist your upper half rather than tilting because you aren't staying in long enough. Bat speed still increases with his method, where you would lose it when making yourself push that outside pitch with the twist

    Hey Matt, I have a problem in my swing that I dont know what it is or how to fix it. I am very good at hitting to the opposite field as a righty, but when I get an inside pitch I usually roll over on a ground ball to third. I also sometimes pop up to second or shallow center. I have a big upper cut swing and I use my lower half well but I dont understand why I roll over. If anyone has had this problem please let me know.

    • @pijon4924
      @pijon4924 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i used to have the same problem. for me personally, i was unknowingly putting my feet at an angle so that my front foot is closer to the plate than my back foot. i know giancarlo stanton does this ( he's freaking jacked), but it was closing my hips off so i couldn't rotate correctly to the inside pitches. this might not be your problem, but what i did to fix it was put a spare bat just in front of my feet before taking cuts in the cage just to make sure my front foot didn't drift towards the plate. hope this helps.

Student of the game that played back in the days. Consistently learning for the love of the game. I never understood why I would hit ball foul or why I would swing late. Honestly, you are probably still pushing instead of turning.

    • @Twins22R

      The swing you describe is not a swing that would induce a "roll over".
      Just because you ground out to third sometimes on inside pitches doesn't mean a roll over occurred.
      A roll over or weak grounder, usually occurs on away pitches that you are early on so you pull them.
      If you have an uppercut and you ground to third on an inside pitch, you may be late on the pitch and your barrel isn't perpendicular to the path of the baseball.
      Or, you simply hit the top half of the ball and the bat angle associated with an uppercut directed the ball to third.
      The swing alone will not make you a .500 hitter so don't overthink it.

  • @fishncoach8699
    @fishncoach8699 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I almost agree lol, the concept is right. Upper body, still needs to rotate (and slightly tilt), however the rotation should be vertical NOT HORIZONTAL like the lower half. The rotation is opposite of the four seam fastball that approaches the hitter. The hitters front shoulder is rotating back (and slightly up) towards the catcher,BUT the back shoulder is rotating down and forward to start the swing. IMO if we just think tilt then it pushes the hips forward and creates a long terrible bat angle. Rotating vertically with the shoulders allows us to stay short and reach a palm up/palm down position near contact, allowing us to stay behind the ball and be in the zone longer.

    If you tilt before you rotate, that promotes an open front shoulder...tilt usually takes care of itself based on location-height-of pitch. Higher pitches, less tilt. Lower pitches, more tilt. If you begin to tilt early as you demonstrate, no chance for the high fastball...if the ump is calling it.

    Where is the Tilt Dont Turn part ? Upper body tilts and turns. Main point seems to be have lower body slightly separated and ahead of upper body to create muscle tension and perhaps greater force when upper body turns. Upper body still turns/rotates when you swing the bat. Sure do not want to just use arms only. Not sure what you mean.

    • @rslwannabe9475
      @rslwannabe9475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He means your upper body is only tilting back. Your hips are only turning.
      The two combined = Turn + tilt. Meaning when your hips twist you create stretch and your shoulders are aslo going back.
      After they stretch so much the shoulders snap forward from the hips twisting.

    Quiet body, fast hands.

      Not the best statement here. The body (in hitting) is two parts: lower and upper. Lower body literally explodes, the upper body (hands & head) follows in a steady, controlled tilt for hand / eye coordination. Creating the rubber band effect. Toughest thing to accomplish in any sport, hitting a baseball, this is why it’s debated sooo much.

      No. The body does not literally explode.
      The body, both halves, create a solid foundation and the motion is slow relative to the barrel of the bat which is moving at the speed that the hands will allow.

    There really is a difference between normal humans and professional athletes. This guy's quick twitch muscles fire off faster post-career than my halcyon years. Are there any minor leaguers who can not accept fate (i would include myself, if i had made the minors).
