  • Discover the 6 million acre national treasure in Upstate New York. Constitutionally protected as "Forever Wild", the Adirondack Park is a unique patchwork of private land and forest preserve. Home to hundreds of communities, and 10 million visitors each year, the Adirondack State Park is a gem of the Northeast.
The Adirondacks are the largest intact deciduous forest left on earth. Moose, common loons, bear, bobcat, and brook trout live here. As well as protected and endangered species such as the bicknell's thrush and the spruce grouse.
The Adirondacks include the headwaters of five major drainage basins. Lake Champlain and the Hudson, Black, St. Lawrence and Mohawk Rivers all draw water from the Adirondack Park. Adirondack forests and wetlands filter and provide clean water for communities as far as New York City! Within the Adirondack Park are more than 2,800 lakes and ponds, and more than 1,500 miles of rivers, fed by an estimated 30,000 miles of brooks and streams.

I hope you do! There is so much to enjoy in the Adirondack Park. That is why we are working to preserve it's magic for the next generation.

It's great how the state owned land within this park and the catskills are protected by the NY constitution. Only if other states had the same level of protection for their parks

Yes, it is such a unique experience to live and work inside a New York State park!

@@adkcouncil It's not so great seeing how growth, especially along the eastern part of the park close to the Northway, has degraded the wilderness character of the park by overdevelopment and overuse. All the lakes are jam-packed with camps and houses and with parades of large pontoon boats circling lakes in endless flotillas, and now even small ponds are lined with McMansions.
The APA has failed and the state failed its stewardship the moment it gave the go-ahead to the Northway. It's a damn shame and the park is only a shadow of what it was a few decades back. Development has particularly exploded since 9/11 and COVID made it even worse. It brings me to tears.

Good morning to whom this may concern,
I am work for the 10th Mountain Division Public Affairs Office on Fort Drum, NY. We're currently working on a video that encourages soldiers and their families to want to be stationed at Fort Drum and see what the surrounding areas have to offer. Would we be able to use some of the shots in this video for that?

Very pretty. Just wish the drone operation would have been more fluid to make it more enjoyable.

Is the Adirondack park really bigger than all those other parks combined? Was Yosemite on that list?

Yeah I know it's crazy. I live right at the southern base of the Adirondack range in Saratoga, and I've lived here 20 years since I was a kid and have MAYBE explored like 5-10% of the major mountains and waterways. Also were i live, between south ADKs and the capitol further south, there are ancient sand plains, called Pine Barrens, which host a variety of super peculiar animals, most special of all the Karner Blue Butterfly which I highly suggest you look into if you ever plan on visiting NY in May-June-July🦋
