I think the fact that each server will have different progression of the world due to the node system will really solidify the world in each players mind especially when they look at streamers/youtubers playing on different servers to them experiencing different events and building different "worlds"
Actually a D&D homebrew game was what started off the Elder Scrolls games, the map&races and history was set up by a D&D DM, funny that how it can all start.

People may want to play on the same server as their favorite streamers so they can experience THAT content.
I don't really think this game needs storylines like other mmos. The story of the dungeon or raid is the experience you had with your party or guild. Some lore and flavor is obviously needed but they don't deep stories while you play imo.

Didn't knew that this game was based on a d&d campaign did. Its awesome and the fact alone can do wonders for the game and the genre. If the game is fun it will attract more people as it rises in popularity. Wow was wow because it made the news for 10 million players, not so much because of w3 imo. There was tons of wow players whom didn't had a clue regarding w3 lore, but played the game because it was fun and popular at the time.

thats really exciting news...however...in 10 years when im looking at this game like [huh]...and the industry changes, making this game look like [huh]..."Book of Travels" will still be ready to make a new chapter over night without sweating a drop of stress
Lore, story & community... 3 things a MMO needs imo, 3 things that get killed pretty quickly by players (they either want vast freedom to do as they please or to be some cheesey superhero saving the world). If Steven can build players pride in their race/nation/faction then it maybe, just maybe...
Will Ashes even have NPCs like leaders of cities or factions etc? Remember doing For The Horde/Alliance? That was super fun. Raiding a city and killing a King. Ashes won't have NPC towns right? They'll have player built Cities, with player mayors. The world will not really have any notable NPCs as far as I am aware. I hope they reveal some more info about this soon. Ashes needs memorable characters and locations that part of the world that aren't player built. Thrall, Sephiroth, Kerrigan, Lady Dumitrescu, will Ashes have characters like this? Or will they leave the world building to the players?
Once the game is out I definitely won't watch any streamers. I'll be busy playing the game. Until then it's cool to have coverage from all kind of angles. Once again, great video! And I hope we will see and hear a lot more about lore. I am excited for a new story, new heroes, a new beautiful and magical world and so much content to explore and discover. It will be glorious! I think it's great to have a community that builds new content from ground up and discovers the world together. It feels meaningful. Something I have been missing for a long time. This should be an evolution of the beginnings of WOW vanilla....
I was in the 5th grade when I started my WoW journey. BC had just come out and I had no prior exposure to the warcraft universe. I dont think a preexisting fanbase is essential, probably helps but the game itself comes first
Idk if the riot RPG will be sny Hood but the lore is there and has been built for the past 10 years. Necrit is a youtuber that has been explaning the lore of league of legends for years, maybe you can check him out of you’re out of ideas for videos.
In my opinion they should do some kinda video of LORE like Blizzard do before WoD/Legion/BFA - "Lords of War" / "Harbingers" / "Warbringers" - I start my adventure with WoW becouse of Warcraft3 story and characters like Illidan/Arthas/Grom :)
Let's be real here, Steven just wanted to be the Dungeon Master of the biggest Pathfinder game so he's turning it into an MMO. Also yes I believe there will be Twitch streamers and TH-camrs who will play a large roll in the development of each server. There will be stories of large and small content creators which will be talked about as the game changes and progresses throughout the years. Tbh, I actually look forward to it and to make an impact myself.
I hope we get some hard lvl stuff dedicated for a hardcore playerbase, making everything accessible to everyone really makes a game boring. Wow was great when you had a certain exlcusivity on gear and mounts for investing your time into hard content. in order to invest time into a community, it needs to be somewhat rewarding.
The title or caption itself is to dogshow Necrits work. He's trolling his way to the competition haha. The last video of Narc about riot vs aoc he didnt even state lots of biggest advantage of riots mmo.
I started enjoying wow after I finished Warcraft 3. For Ashes I actually fear that the lore will not play major role, because telling a story in an MMO is really hard :(
Two dragons fell in love a long, long time ago. A fire dragon and an ice dragon. This, of course could not be allowed, so the grown up dragons imprisoned them in a mountain prison for both. And once their prismatic offspring was found, it too was imprisoned. So strong was the prismatic offspring that it was sedated and four guardians were set to watch over the prison. A prison that would be know as the Tomb of the Sleeper among humankind. Many years later a group of heroes would venture forth to slay the guardiand and release the Sleeper on the world. An event that would change the world forever, and event that could only be triggered once on each server. Kerafyrm, as was the Sleepers true name, would fly forth, slay the liberators, no matter how many and no matter how powerful with out hardly a scratch. Kerafyrm would rage through the city of the Dragons, slaying powerful adults and changing several areas in ways that could never be undone. Maybe you know the Legend of the Sleeper, of Kerafyrm, The Claw of Veshan and the Ring of Fire - of the lost love of Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox. Maybe not. On November 15, 2003, on the Rallos Zek pvp server - one of a few where the sleeper still slept, three guilds united; Ascending Dawn, Wudan, and Magus Imperialis Magicus and they fought the dragon for over 3 hours, finally killing it. This is one, if not the most epic battles fought in an MMO. One attempt per server. Only one kill ever. Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox where there right when EQ opened the doors in 1999, and Kerafyrm was introduced in the Scars of Velius expansion in 2000. There is so much legend to this battle - much more than my post can hold. Bits may be lost but you can find more outh there :) :) This event, the story as it was revealed through sparse dialog, old patchments and runes were there for all to discover. Some times the imposible encountes leaves the greates memories.
one of my biggest concerns was if it would have a story and in depth lore as all I hear about the game is the pvp an nodes and was worried the world was just a backdrop to play in and not really important. So I am looking forward to more lore videos.
A recent revelation is that Ashes so depends on the Nodes and Player Economy, that Ashes cannot succeed unless those succeed. They are Ashes arteries and sinew. This mean that a game solution MUST take precedence over verisimilitude or "Realism." Just consider the recent Caravan update. How does that "make sense," except as a necessity? Mounts and Lumber that fit in your pocket? Only materials can be looted? I don't disagree with these decisions, but they are a trade off, and they limit my immersion in the game. I enjoy Lore, but the necessary artificiality of the world makes it harder to lose oneself in it.
I could go for some narc conveyed lore. I'm hoping that there are people who fight against the super power MMO Streamers to stop them from controlling things just because they are popular. Asmon and peon are wonderful and all but I'll fight against them before I fight for them. (Unless of course there is an overlap of interest and ill co operate)
The "kido" has grown up??? So many years have past of AC development that the "kido" is now old? What's the concept here? And yes I like the lore videos! I'm always hooked to a good story telling that get's me into the game! Thanks Narc!
I think the main reason people have been unable to create an mmo from kickstarter is the fact that they are doing it with the money they get from a kickstarter. Yes it happens that it raises a few million dollars but the reality is that MMOs are among the most expensive types of games to create and a few mil won't cut it. The only viable path for a kickstarter mmo to become real (beside actually having the money before even going to kickstarter) is to have a really successful kickstarter and prototype that they can then take over to a larger publisher and gain a sponsorship. Problem is... that's risky still because MMOs must be known within the business to be one of those games that almost inevitably fail and it won't be easy to convince that that it will be a profitable business venture for them. So the kickstarter people may lose all of their money and gain nothing if the devs are unable to aqcuire that publishers support.
Been watching you for about a year now Narc! I am a fiend for this content. But you should definitely get rest and schedule time off, even while content is booming. Coming from a new father, we both gotta keep healthy and look after our babies.
I can't wait to see how economy on diffrent servers work, since it will be player driven i can see some jobs being more rare then others on servers (e.g gem Smyths)
Books !! GW2 books in between the games were amazing. I would totally get down with some lore stories. Imo this is where New World went wrong. Amazon game could have had some story telling via book or mini series. Does anyone even know the point or villain of New World yet?
I’ll be honest, I don’t watch Twitch streams. I could put them on a second monitor but my son sitting next to me takes any concentration I have left for a second monitor.
Personally, the only thing I'm worried about with Ashes of Creation is the lore. At the moment it seems very generic and uninspired. I consider video games one of the finest modern forms of art and storytelling. Masterpieces like RDR2(and many others) are going to mark our era, as the beginning of video games being perceived as art rather than plain entertainment and I think it's very important for a game to aspire to be a means of engaging storytelling just like cinema, series or a book. Video games are deeply artistic given the fact that they include many different forms of high art, from the visual aspect, to the music, the storytelling and voice acting. If those things aren't put there out of pure passion and love for artistry and storytelling, if they are just stale representations of "art" it shows. No matter how good the mechanics, no matter how big the world or engaging the community it all ends up being empty and hollow if it doesn't contain a touch of higher inspiration. If the music doesn't have a touch of greatness, if the visual aspect isn't creative in a way that isn't just an imitation of realism, if the voice acting is robotic and the STORYTELLING is just a plain good and evil sort of thing without highlighting the big vast areas of GREY that make us human and imperfect, then it's just a playground for man children to vent off after a long day at work. And don't get me wrong, the aforementioned is also a requirement but the games that hit the hardest are the ones that aside from being fun, give you an immersion that deep into their universe where escapism attains a whole another level of meaning and gravity.
As someone who enjoys Record of Lodoss War (An anime which was made after a D&D gaming session) and the old, and still running, Dark Age of Camelot (which back in the day was all about the community) I can only hope that this will be the best of both worlds. You're not the sole appointed savior of the universe (lost Ark) but more like a champion in a field of champions (Guild Wars 2) There is a far better chance that this game comes out long before those who kickstarted Camelot Unchained will ever get a chance to play theirs... (I founded that one, it's been since 2013, so those griping about the development of THIS one, shush... LOL)
An updated lore vid would be awesone! I don't know if a more passive way introducing players to the lore than theme park mmos will resonate well with players in the recent years but since I appreciate not being overwhelmed with stuff that happens in the world that you have to keep track of to prove your nerdyness but actual meaningful actions and reactions of players. As a roleplayer myself I would aappreciate it to be the characters actions but I ll try to be realistic. The roleplay aspect of most mmorpgs is mostly dumbed down to an often mediocre interactive action TV show anyhow. Nostalgia is mighty but it can also be your downfall if you have to keep track of all your previous story and events and they have to match up with your current content. At least if you dont want to turn off a huge part of your audience that is.
14:20 Answer to your question: No. TH-camrs and Streamers are primarily in it for the money. The community is ALWAYS a distant second and they will do whatever it takes to "create" content. The rise of TH-cam and Social Media has all but destroyed our civilization...and more importantly, MMO's. A discovered MMO is a dead MMO. Content creators will scour every inch of a newly released MMO and reveal it to the ignorant masses. They will break down and min/max every system, spoil every hidden item, map every inch, and if you disagree with them....their mindless followers will attack you personally until your argument is lost to the internet ether. There will be no "new" MMO. There can't be. Content Creators will make sure of it.
To answer your question on how the world building of Ashes of Creation should be fleshed out I answer it with a question. Since you're comparing it to franchises that established gameplay and lore through single player games, some with multiplayer elements like RTS, are you suggesting that Intrepid do another Apocalypse but better? I wouldn't suggest what kind of game but if done it should certainly be one that again helps test systems and gameplay and helps build towards the MMO itself. Again I don't know what kind of game whether RTS, arena battler, dungeon crawler or even combining and mix and matching things they want to put in the MMO into a solid single player game that people would enjoy and could or not have some multiplayer or PvP stuff. An AoC Elden Ring? Certainly interesting to think about. I'm sure Steve has at least thought of doing this.
I like this jab at the bullshit hype around riot mmo. "our world is already done hurr durr". it's like saying "my script is already done" when I need to make a movie. it's what you BEGIN WITH.
I fell that unless the streamers are invested into the world, it will sadly be a question of popularity and monetization. While many of them will play at the time of hype and for some time after, they will always have a personal purpose with their streams nor nessacrily focusing on world / story building.
whether or not people can become real "characters" in Ashes depends on the systems they have in place to immortalize important events. I seriously doubt it's going to end up that way, though. A "library" with public histories on sieges and mayors might be useful or interesting to some, but will be boring to most. I have some ideas that might make it more interesting, but it's all just pure cope-fueled daydreams tbh. I'm worried the world is going to change too fast and nodes will rise and fall too quickly for characters and storylines to be cemented in public knowledge.
I believe people like Asmongold are and will be pillars for community involvement, this includes what remains of the WoW community drive. If newer mmo's / Ashes introduce further ties and community involvement / community driven content, then they will certainty be the reason so many get involved, as twitch itself and the "Para social relationships" are already a drive for involvement. It would certainty be nice to see things like Asmons' mount offs and transmog comps be written into the history of a server literally through a library, even funnier if they hosted them to decide mayors.
I don't think any story or game should ever be "tailored" to a generation, good stories and themes do not target a generation to the contrary they are timeless. If the game is fun it will attract more people as it rises in popularity. Wow was wow because it made the news for 10 million players, not so much because of w3 imo. There was tons of wow players whom didn't had a clue regarding w3 lore, but played the game because it was fun and popular at the time.
Copacola is great but I prefer a straight needle to the arm of copium.
Dude your videos have quickly become some of my favourite on youtube, please keep it up at a good pace for you! I really enjoy how entertaining your content it :D thanks for coming to youtube you weirdo
thats really exciting news...however...in 10 years when im looking at this game like [huh]...and the industry changes, making this game look like [huh]..."Book of Travels" will still be ready to make a new chapter over night without sweating a drop of stress
Lore is very important. It is an essential part of world-building and gives the world the player inhabits more depth and meaning.
Until then it's cool to have coverage
from all kind of angles. Once again, great video! And I hope we will see and hear a lot more about lore. I am excited for a new story, new heroes, a new beautiful and magical world
and so much content to explore and discover. It will be glorious!
I think it's great to have a community that builds new content from ground up and discovers the world together. It feels meaningful.
Something I have been missing for a long time. This should be an evolution of the beginnings of WOW vanilla....
The TV show Firefly was largely based on some creators or writers Traveller ttrpg campaign and that was great, so I reckon they're alright :D
He's trying to compete with necrit, the title itself is him dogshowing necrit style. But Riot and even necrit doesnt know this guy though haha.
Bro, never skip the leg day!
League's lore is really in depth. I'd encourage you to check it out fully, Narc. It's been being built for a really long time.
The title or caption itself is to dogshow Necrits work. He's trolling his way to the competition haha. The last video of Narc about riot vs aoc he didnt even state lots of biggest advantage of riots mmo.
@@death2able Ahh gotcha. Thanks for the clarification
I started enjoying wow after I finished Warcraft 3. For Ashes I actually fear that the lore will not play major role, because telling a story in an MMO is really hard :(
I really appreciate the Tulnar representation in the beginning of this video. Thank you.
Bits may be lost but you can find more outh there :) :)
This event, the story as it was revealed through sparse dialog, old patchments and runes were there for all to discover. Some times the imposible encountes leaves the greates memories.
Please google give this man a raise so he can get some pants.
Anyone scrolling through comments looking for Stephen?
one of my biggest concerns was if it would have a story and in depth lore as all I hear about the game is the pvp an nodes and was worried the world was just a backdrop to play in and not really important. So I am looking forward to more lore videos.
I’m going to do what I did with Elden Ring and reframe from using TH-cam or google to gather information about Ashes of Creation when it’s released
Those Twisted Torin skins though! So sick. I'll save my presale coins for those skins [edit:] I would also like to see a re-vamped lore video.
Sorry but i think new worlds combat is amazing for an mmo ....... kinda changes up the pace of an mmo , gives it another layer for combat
Say Whaaat???!! Ok... Gimmie that inhaler.
Lore is important. AoC being downstream of a D&D campaign is a good omen.
SUPERCHARGE THAT LORE VIDEO, MATE! I have been in love with MMORPGs for the RPG aspects.
Just watched the lore video for the first time and would love an updated/expanded one
Think D&D still growing don’t change the core.
Vanilla and classic WoW were a success. Market for it.
Great video! But please give us back the high pitch voice kid at the end of the video. "... but Naaaarc...." Yeah, good times.
Been watching you for about a year now Narc! I am a fiend for this content. But you should definitely get rest and schedule time off, even while content is booming. Coming from a new father, we both gotta keep healthy and look after our babies.
I love lore in video games, to me it's the foundations of them, it give direction to a game... thanks :D
If EVE online is capable of doing it why not Ashes of Creation ? But just don't expect millions of people to stick to a game like that.
I can't wait to see how economy on diffrent servers work, since it will be player driven i can see some jobs being more rare then others on servers (e.g gem Smyths)
"it's done when it's done"
Bro…. You can’t make jokes about time in development…. Im still waiting if Star Citizen….
Star Copium
Least you can play star citizen already
Intro ends, I like the video and I don't care what's next on the menu. 11/10 video, the main content is irrelevant to me :D :D :D
Books !! GW2 books in between the games were amazing. I would totally get down with some lore stories. Imo this is where New World went wrong. Amazon game could have had some story telling via book or mini series. Does anyone even know the point or villain of New World yet?
Very smooth splicing of Kevin Brighting.
I’ll be honest, I don’t watch Twitch streams. I could put them on a second monitor but my son sitting next to me takes any concentration I have left for a second monitor.
Comment to the comment gods.
Thanks for the cope fix, bro.
I was getting itchy.
We want all the lore you can find!
Please bring back the old "buuuuuttt Naaaarrrrc" voice I loved it so much and kept watch untill the end just for that lol
Man! You could be talking about vegan diet and soft boiled eggs! And I would still watch you just for the intros! Keep up the great work!
I'm glad I found your channel. Your quirky wit is entertaining.
Top production value
2:20 What a weird pizza box you got there, and i certainly never heard of this brand before.
Over 1/3rd of the way in and nothing on the click-bait title. That will ultimately alienate more potential audience....
I like this jab at the bullshit hype around riot mmo. "our world is already done hurr durr". it's like saying "my script is already done" when I need to make a movie. it's what you BEGIN WITH.
The Deer are getting stronger 👹👹👹
I fell that unless the streamers are invested into the world, it will sadly be a question of popularity and monetization. While many of them will play at the time of hype and for some time after, they will always have a personal purpose with their streams nor nessacrily focusing on world / story building.
I don't normally comment but the effort in your edits is cool man !
whether or not people can become real "characters" in Ashes depends on the systems they have in place to immortalize important events.
