Chainsaw Milling the Biggest Tree Possible. The Wilderness Gazebo is on its Way! #40

  • This giant white pine log has been in my way since packing up my tent and moving to the woods. Unfortunately it is just a teeny bit too big for my chainsaw mill but I give it a go anyway just to see what will happen. I've been milling for the better part of a week to make enough lumber for my bow-legged gazebo and it's almost time for assembly!
If you are interested in seeing the whole Gazebo project, here is a link to the playlist:

Just love starting my Saturdays with you. I may not live in the bush but I look forward to my morning with you. You make me smile and even laugh right out loud sometimes. We have100 acres in the bush that’s been turned in to an off leash dog park! Not quite as adventurous as you but all the furry friends love it

That huge log is LUDICRIPS! Thanks for working so hard so we don't have to 😄
I'm embarrassed to say I have been using an electric chainsaw to cut some free wood a neighbor gave me. I might have to make a cup with some of the wood.

      LUDICRIPS!
I almost got my hands on a Ryobi "chainsaw" that runs off my rechargeable drill batteries. I think it had a 4" bar (yes, really) but I just had to have it. So no shame in going electric!

    Good Morning.
As I was enjoying this old video an idea came to me for milling large logs.
Set the log up an only de-bark where the 1st cut is to be made.
    Mill the top off.
Rotate 90° toward saw side and reset your tubes for next cut only de-barking the exit side if you deem necessary.(I've heard dirt dulls the chain less on the exit side of a cut)
Again Rotate 90° toward saw side and reset your tubes for 3rd cut only de-barking the exit side if you deem necessary.
Now rotate back 90° and you can cut whatever thickness slabs you desire and your bar should be long enough to fully penetrate the log.
This process should save a lot of de-barking time and possibly a lot of ripping time to straighten the slabs for use. Slabs should be relatively same size and rectangular.
I clearly have not milled any wood but am always looking for ways to make things more efficient! the only negative I see is possibly some loss of potential slab width.
    Happy Camping!!!!

I watch one of your videos this past evening. In the video you mentioned that your land code or county code would allow a certain size sq foot building. Now, my question is. Have you considered building a authentic country type Cabin??? Not sure how many acres you have but I do know you have massive amount of eight to ten inch trees. It would be nice to see what you would come up with in a Cabin build. Maybe in the future. Everything you have built rocks. Oh btw, you’ll still have use of your tent camping……

Great video as usual. I love your lumber yard. I need some 2 inch board, break out the saw. What more could you ask. I know it is coming up but there has to be some bowlegged gazebo jokes in there somewhere. In my mind I am seeing a giant Jenga tower at each end of your top beam hold it it up so you can attach your rafters. So, if you add those grubs to your peanut butter does it up the protein and calorie count. Really enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing and stay well!

With the log width exceeding bar length, why don't you turn the log 90 degrees and square off one (or both) sides? Just use a square to position the cutting jig Often you cut off the edges anyway, so that would save a step. Also, it would result in true edges on some boards.

Fab tidbit, that. And your fine screen name reminds me of The Odyssey when Odysseus escapes from the Cyclops by telling him that Odysseus’s name is Nohbdy…

Haha. Forgot about that. I've never met a cyclops that was overly brainy.

Wow! you were pointing that knife right at us when you were peeling the log. Can you be anymore careless?! Pfft!
    That's some beautiful wood.
Gees! You scared me as I thought that I missed a couple of videos when I saw that part of the gazebo was built. Can you not do that please as its hard on the ticker.

You need to get yourself a real sawmill. Something with a nice thin band blade that will zip through all these logs with ease and doesn't involve you destroying your chainsaw.

You need a P.O. Box so people can send you peanut butter.

    • @survivingringworm2202
      @survivingringworm2202  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ha! I do have a PO box listed on the "about" page I believe. Occasionally people do send me fun stuff there.
Fortunately, I did just step it up to the largest size peanut butter while shopping today. Less than $5 for 4 pounds! What a deal. That's over 10,000 calories.

Stop relying on peanut butter. You got to figure out how to eat from your land. It's beautiful country- it has to be able to feed you next. Gorgeous lumber milled this week.
