I am going through the toughest period of my life, one that only God can bring me out of, this song speaks to my soul, help of the helpless, I am strengthened by this hymn and I boldly say God will see me through and bring me out a much better person to be used for His will Amen.

True, enough - it's an excellent point.
For those who are terminally suffering the physical death of their bodies, being called home is the only way that happens, and this hymn has clearly proved to be a comfort to those who bore witness to that suffering and pain.

My 68 year-old mother was just diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, one that affects fewer than 1000 people a year. As we await a treatment plan and learn whether or not it has spread, I’m using this song to give me strength. I’ve never been the most religious person but I need some faith right now. Please, God or whoever, let her and our family persevere.

Lean not on your understanding. Depend wholly on Christ. And I have seen this work for me. Am still yet to go deeper. Am a Christian but I yearn for more and more. Is Death really bad ? An old body moves on leaving new young children to come and enjoy this beautiful world. My children and grand-children will take over when I leave. I hope I have taught them to value the beauty in Nature, and to realise that 'Kindness' is the key to all Human Relationships. I thank my Creator for the time he has given me so far, and for my loving wife and children.

If there was nothing bad about death, people wouldn't abhor the idea that everyone and everything will crumble to dust and fall into oblivion forever. It's just wrong. You say your children will take over, but at some point that will crumble as well. But God's will is not for us to perish but to have eternal life. Human beings are not disposable to him. That's why he sent his son, Jesus, to overcome death for us, so we may be reconciled to his eternal nature!

This song has been in my head since the Remembrance Day Service this morning. It seems that it means a little more to me with each passing year. I imagine soldiers in the trenches amid the stench of death. Cold. Hungry. Scared. Shell-shocked. Wounded. ...Lonely... I can not begin to thank you for your sacrifice. I pray there is a special place in Heaven for those that have served and paid the ultimate price. "Greater love hath no man than this... That a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

God allows these things to persist for a time to remind us there is no peace but in Christ, for through faith in Him even though we die we may live forever. Indeed the very heavens and the earth wax old like a garment and as a vesture God shall change them and make a new heaven and a new earth and a new Jerusalem where the lion and calf shall lie down together in peace.
Yet beware: God shall judge "the people of this world." Yet you are of the people of this world. How then must you be saved from the judgement to come?
_He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him._

Not going to happen, because firstly the people dying due to politics and differences of opinion are frequently engaged in life or death struggles to stay alive. Eg Christians and Democrats are fighting islamists and Totalitarians (frequently the democrats are also islamists) in Syria. Humans are a fallen race, we murder, pillage, burn and destroy. Hence the saving message of the Lord, hence the Divine Sacrifice, hence the title “Angus Dei” Lamb of God.

I am myself an atheist, but this song to me is iconic due to it use in the Battle of Arnhem. As a hotel converted into a hospital fell to the Germans on the 24th September 1944, a Dutch minister asked their SS captors if he could perform a service for the men- they refused. In defiance, he led the hundreds of wounded British parachutists lying on the floor of the Hotel in a rendition of this.'Fast falls the eventide'- how appropriate.

    • @miniwars123
      @miniwars123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I pray God use this song in your life until you comprehend with the saints the lyric,
_Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;_
_Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;_
I also once denied God's existence, yet through visiting places like Lake Titicaca and seeing creation, through learning of the logic embedded in the universe in math and science class, I could no longer convince myself of such things.
God loved you so much that while you deny His existence He sent His Son Jesus to die on a cross that if you put your faith in Him you should be forgiven all your sin and be gifted eternal life. Since all in earth decays and is destroyed, living for anything other than God and His eternal kingdom (family, money, fame, joy in any earthly thing) is vain.
      Thus the verse fittingly ends,
_Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;_
_In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me._

Every day I am dying to the flesh. Abiding in Christ who is the vine is the only way that I as a branch will bear fruit. JESUS SAID I AM THE VINE AND YOU ARE THE BRANCHES. A BRANCH CANNOT BEAR FRUIT OF ITSELF EXCEPT IT ABIDES IN THE VINE. This beautiful hymn is truly an inspiration to me. Thanks for sharing.

It does the same for me but I rejoice in the knowledge that with my eventual passing from this fallen and corrupted world of ours that I will be living in eternity with my Lord and Savior Jesus. The body may return to dust but the soul lives on forever and goes to a place more glorious than our feeble mind can even imagine.

When I hear this hymn I always close my eyes and start to sob mainly it reminds me of the sheer slaughter of the first world war and the sacrifice made by our soldiers not just in the first world war but in all conflicts past and present. One quote for me personally in this hymn that hits home is "the darkness deepens". We live in a world that's torn apart
I pray mainly at this time for the people of Ukraine as they continue the resistance and war against Russia hopeing that God will deliver them safely.

We sang this today at the ANZAC service. Sorry for all the soldiers that died and kingdom come as we leave faith in your kindness to fight for our country. The soldiers came to be there for us. Sorry Turkey, 🇹🇷 . Australia, 🇦🇺. and Newzealand. 🇳🇿 We are all sad you died. May Jesus and God pray for you and be happy in heaven with you. Amen. ANZAC stands for: Australia Newzealand Army Corp. but we say it like core but its spelt like corp :) Thank you again for soldiers to save us. A girl who lied about her being 17 or 18 was actually 12 and she came to war and she said “this isnt a place for games and silliness. Whats wrong with me” and she died. poor girl.

Lord Abide with me- I am reminded of your fresh grace everyday. I am reminded of how the human being is just fickle , as grass, there today, and gone tomorrow. Lord who changes not...teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom! Mum I miss you so much! I thank the Lord that you are rested in heaven, as you minister to the Lord in heaven!

I think this is perhaps the 2nd most used hymn in the world. It is found in just about every church hymnal. The first hymn being Amazing Grace. But, this hymn done by
The Kings College Choir is the most beautiful. It is sung with Reverence, and to a Holy God who is our Father.
