This came about because my daughter is a huge Dune fan -- posters, shirts, the whole thing. She was nervous to appear on the video but decided to go ahead and try it because she could add the perspective of someone who hasn't read the books yet. Sorry about the background noise but we had to shoot this early in the evening and my son, who is too young to be on TH-cam IMHO, was very jealous. I usually shoot after everyone has gone to bed. It's also when I'm at my most alert.
I agree with your daughter that I enjoyed the first one better. This one was good, I liked it a lot, but it's probably won't be my favorite movie of the year.
Alia, Paul’s sister, is an abomination to the Bene Gesserit because her personality may be taken over by an ancestral memory. A fully grown person who takes the water of life has enough personal experience to avoid that
I thought this was just good, not great. I missed several, IMHO, important scenes. Paul was never "A friend of Jamis", Harah never pouted that she was still young, and I thought that Paul was accepted as Messiah way too easily. And...threatening to destroy the spice with atomic weapons? Not as impactful as destroying the spice with the unchanged water of life. I also missed finding out that the Spacing Guild were the true rulers of the galaxy. While entertaining, I'd give it 2.5 out of 4.
Not having the friend of Jamis scene was a misfire, IMHO. They throw a line to it between Stilgar and Jessica, but Paul giving water to the dead was a big part of is character progression.
Overall I loved the movie. There are so many layer of the onion to peel away I have t see it again. I did have issues with Chani leaving at the end, and his sister NOT being born. She kills her Grandfather not Paul.
I think both of those difference, which I also wasn't 100% happy with, are because they anticipate making a third chapter. Previous iterations were meant to stand alone so they didn't leave threads dangling like that.
@@MichaelSiegel14 I think the Chani change was great. But I definitely missed having young Alia in the finale. It works fine in standalone, but her character loses a lot of intensity and the intimate connection to (that floating fat man) the Baron that becomes so important later. It's also a little tougher to accept Paul advanced so far and learned so much if he was only in the desert a few months.
Sorta yes! A long time ago thinking machines designed the ornithopters as a kind of style first, practically last expression. Now the technology is so ingrained they just keep using it. One thing that is hard to understand for us in an age of discovery and advancement is that there might be a time in the future where we do not see a constant stream of invention and discovery.

On my high quality head set I can hear there are other people in the room. He entered the room 2 minutes in this video and he is sitting on right from the perspective of Michael's daughter. Furthermore I think this video is recorded during the day i think. I hear a lot of background noises outside or other parts of the house. It is actually kinda annoying. Besides this: Great idea to add two perspectives from one familie (yours!) in one video.

I loved how subtle the personal shield effects were.
Plus, you'll notice when they use lasguns, they never shoot anything with a shield. Subtle touch if you know the books.
Well done that dad. Getting a shy and amazing daughter on camera is a huge achievement😎👏😁👍
Its clear the film is longer, i would of watched hours of this. true greatness.
That scene when he went to that circle and rallied up the Fremen was powerful.

Paul is the "bad guy" after drinking the water of life.
He goes killing millions/billions in the books after DUNE part 2.

@rob4926 No, if I was Ebert I'd have just given it a thumbs up or down. 8^)

The daughter looks confused when he talks about the book. 😅

@MichaelSiegel14 Actually Michael I agree. He is VERY adamant about making Dune Messiah.
But first Rendezvous With Rama

i need a Dune shirt
shame I couldn't hear what the daughter said. 😥 I'm seeing the movie later today
Just home from movie, LOVED it better I think then the first part.
Aren't the Ornithopters pretty much self-destruction-machines or at least very uneconomical?

With today's tech yeah but this story takes place many thousands of years in the future so ......

You're right. We had to record this in early evening and my son was desperate to appear on the video (he's a bit too young at this point).
Is your daughter stressed by the COVID or something ? Or what's the point of that mask stuff ?
Nice review anyway, thanks !
probably didnt want to show her face online, definitely understandable
