Yes, it was a difficult decision to turn back. I didn't want to chance riding further across and becoming a burden to my mates if I came off again, worsening the injury. I didn't want to make it theirs or anyone else's problem. 😉
A bad case of the luggage steering the bike. Would you be attempting it again? I would love to attempt the Simpson Desert. Logistical out if my reach right now.
Maybe too heavy but more like too high behind you also, Too me i think the gearing might be to high ! I run 15/44 for trips and 14/44 for general stuff, in the sand you need to sit back keep the power on somewhat
i crossed the simpson solo unsupported on my drz with 15/44 gearing it wasn't an issue at all. the drz breezed through it, couldn't ask for a better bike to do it on.
Nice footage but you had way too much gear on the bike for first timer. I know as i did the same thing
Must have been a punch to the gut watching your mates continue on. Ah well. Great series of videos any hoo :)

Tough call but a wise one. Top marks for picking up your rubbish - thanks for that.

100% spot on there! Yes, we are planning for another crossing this year. I will definitely be making a few changes. 😉👍 🍻
