Changed to 14T front in Birdsville for the sand. Rear is 44T. Estimating weight of bike, rider, fuel, water, camping gear, spares, tools etc would be a minimum of 320kg.The DR seemed to do it easy on the bigger dune climbs in 2nd gear (and the secret believe it or not was to use the old worn Dunlop 606. New tyres/knobbies trench much easier. Didn't rear wheel bog once). I had 14T, 15T and 16T sprockets. Used the 16T for the massive highway leg leaving Sydney and didn't need to change out of 4th doing highway speed limits. Seemed to be great on fuel with the 16T with much lower sounding revs (no tacho). However, while it's a simple job to change front sprockets at home in your garage, it's not a fun activity at the end of a long ride day, with fatigue and heat. Dreaming of Nova Racing wide-ratio gears.
@@nhalar sounds like a great set up thanks for sharing. I have a rear 47 so I use the 16t for highways and 15 off road and usually hit 5th around 90kph
Amazing Nick.
this looks like so much fun
Great stuff Nick! How much petrol and water please?
Awesome to watch, what gearing did you primarily use?
