Coming into a concept for the Lake Superior black sand region. Remember the 1960s push lawn sweeper - brushing up the grass clippings and tossing into the catcher. Can't find anything of that device online anymore. But, thinking of having the same DIY black sand/gold beach sweeper. Get a small roller blade lawn mower, install very stiff brushes onto the actual cutting blades (remove the rear cutting bar). Have to modify the rubber tires and wheels - and weld plates (*) onto the metal wheel (1880s-1920s tractor wheel style). The welded plates are the actual traction in the loose sand. Can set the depth of the brushes to sweep dry and portions of moist black sand. Use the device and (as said) "mow the lawn." Just run the sweeper over the entire area of the black sand until you get down to the non-black sand layer, ... and keep mowing the lawn all up and down the beach in the other areas. When full, 1/4 - 1/2 bucket volume, pour into bucket, and continue working the layer. This way you don't waste time and effort in shovel scooping up black sand and non-black sand. One person works the sweeper, while the other person works the sluice ... and easily process 10-20 buckets for a session.
nice work....there for awhile I thought Rex's middle name was "Chainsaw" that kid loves chewing on stuff. He did great today, had to make sure that gold stayed in the right spots. Little Moon Walk on the runway.

JJ Hi. When I was in Nome Alaska on the GPA Cripple Creek claim working the beach deposits we would find spots where you would get 1000s of specks of gold in one full shovel. Then up in the mountain claim sight we regularly found 1/4" round nuggets (not flat flakes). sold my flour gold to pay for the trip but kept all my nuggets (30 in total).
