LoVees Speaker - Part 3 - Markaudio CHP-70 Fullrange | Tang Band W-5 | Dayton ND-20 | DIY Crossovers

  • In this video I show how did I built the LoVees Full-Range Speaker metal legs and passive Crossovers. I extracted the FRD and ZMA files and used the XSim crossover software to make the crossovers. I'm showing how did the speaker perform after ready with multiple frequency response graphs using REW.
This design counts on a Markaudio CHP-70 Fullrange, a Tang Band W-5 side firing subwoofer and a Dayton Audio ND-20 FB Ambient Tweeter. The result is a full sound in a compact box. The speaker has an "in room" frequency response that goes from 27 Hz to over 20 KHz. Really surprising for a low cost small box.

With the Fountek drivers NLA (due to the designer having a falling out with the China manufacturer), MarkAudio drivers are getting their chance in the sun, which they really deserve. The design ethos of a lightweight aluminum cone on a full range speaker is something that has some magic, and if the bass range is taken away then the full range speaker can operate as a really excellent combination midrange-tweeter unit. It is bass excursion that takes away the most sound quality from a full range speaker, and a good full range speaker like this combined with a low-bass dedicated woofer can mimic the desirable sonic characteristics of a three-way speaker in the midrange. A tweeter offers a bit more refinement in the top end, so a true three-way is still ideal, but the augmented full range speaker as a mid-tweeter in a two-way system is the way to get the most 'three way magic' in a two-way system.

They look very impressive Bernardo, as per your usual!
Mark Fenton knocks out some killer full-range drivers with metal cones under the Markaudio brand. If you ever get the chance, have a listen to Pearl Audio`s Sibellius. They are a mass loaded tl cabinet and will blow your mind !

I myself still use speakerworkshop I've tried xsim rew combo but just find speakerworkshop much much quicker and easier for me... one thing I'm sure you can do in xsim also to get the real offset instead of measuring which is never accurate because the offset is never where you think it should be, is to take your far field measurement of both drivers playing at the same time then the nearfirld of both than adjust the off set so the phase and measurement overlap in a graph with all three measurements around the crossover point... When I do this the modeled crossover is exactly what will be measured so there's no need for me to do a real-world measure till its how I want it... Of course there's sometimes small tweaking after that.
Always great videos keep it up!!!

Hi sonnara I’ve been watching your videos and you bring me to this amazing hi-fi system world. A couple months ago dedicated to built my speakers I had used components from budget procjct with tcp-115 and viva tweeter.(I just needed to know how would they perform, I was pleased with the results but know I feel I need sth more , more detail and better mids ) . Now when I’m slightly better at woodwork I would like to build new speakers , this project looks astonishing and the curve looks nice and they are affordable, but how about dynamics of speakers and the soundstage, will it be worth the effort 😅😅.
I also build my gainclone amp class ab - you need to make a fanpage where I would post pictures how speakers and amp turned out 😅😅
