YO! I played Donkey Kong Country on a whim, and it was AWESOME. A lot of people have been asking for more content, so I figured I'd put this on TH-cam. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! PS - there's currently some issue with watching the video on mobile. Try watching on a regular computer and it should work!
The only way this could be more nostalgic is if my little sisters ran in, took the controller out of Ryu's hands, and then demanded he stick around to beat the mine cart levels for them.
me and my bro had that sort of a deal for Perfect Dark last boss on the N64 years ago...he would run the entire level and I would kill the boss since he sucked at him somehow despite wrecking the whole level better than I did(this was to unlock the cheat code relate to that level)
Bruh, I remember being a kid with an NES and not knowing a damn thing about the SNES. My dad took our family to the Toys R Us in Times Square when this gem was coming out and they had the game set up across 9 or 16 screens - I forget how many. Anyway, my mind was absolutely blown away despite only playing for literally like a minute and it just being the 'Ropey Rampage' stage at 2:24 . T'was absolute fucking magic! Never understood why they didn't keep making a "giant screen" out of several tv sets like that.
The game was actually made with 3D models. All the characters and models were made on screen in total 3D. Sure a low tri count 3D but still 3D. After that RARE turned those 3D animations into 2D sprite animations which we see in game. That's why the sprites here have a psudeo 3D looking depth.

I remember pre-ordering this game from Toys R Us, and being on of the first ones to play it when it came out. I believe it was the biggest game ever made at the time.

It's funny to see Ryu struggle with some of the easier but slightly confusin parts and troll enemies of the game that are well known with speedrunners and at the same time casually one shots most of the "harder" parts of the game. I love to see some one play who isn't familiar with the game it's great!:) I had forgotten how many troll enemies Nintendo placed in this game.
This game was incredible when it first came out. We were always amazed by the graphics and creativity. Still is an all time great game. This , SMB3 and mario world were my childhood.
Such a nostalgia trip seeing you play this game after a long while, this is probably the game I played the most on SNES as a kid. This one and Diddy Kong's Quest are among the best games ever made on any console so you made a great choice by playing Donkey Kong Country, thanks for sharing! :)
I remember playing super nintendo and if the game didnt work you would blow into the game. If it still didnt work you passed it around to all of your friends and they all blew into it. It always worked after that, always. Those were the days
got this for Christmas with the SNES when I was like 8. Spent so much time playing with my brother. Always struggled with Stop and Go station and still remember when I accidentally discovered that if you go back at the very start you can skip half the level. So many beautiful beautiful memories
This, Mega Man X, and super mario world were all given to me with a Super Nintendo when I was younger (along with several other games). It was my uncle's. Those three series are still the best ever for me. Can't get enough :)
I am so happy you found the Snow Barrel stage so hard, Ryukahr. As a kid (6 or 7 I think?) I found that stage to be the absolute hardest, and a huge spike in difficulty compared to earlier stages, and I only ever beat it twice, but since you had to beat two more stages to get to the save point, I was never able to progress past it, and therefore never beat DKC as a kid. I thought that I just sucked at it, but then I saw you, Master Platformer that you are, admitting it was a difficult stage, and I felt so much better, now, 25 years later lol.
Why is this the most nostalgic and emotional game for me now as an adult? Something I can’t put my finger on. It was never my absolute favorite as a kid, but was certainly up there.
I love the audio in this game and 2. The music is still some of my favorite in any game and genres. Find a hi def ost and listen on a decent hifi system and may be get blown away of the sound
Awesome gameplay. Speaking of DKC on SNES, there's a demo called Donkey Country 4: The Kongs Return with the four playable Kong characters from the first three Donkey Kong SNES games.
I remember being like 5 and being super confused as my oldest sister tried explaining the roll off the edge and jump thing to me and I was all just like, that's not possible. You cant jump in mid air. Yeah, I never figured it out

I don't ever remember owning a console to play this when I was a kid but I swear every level seemed so familiar right down to those mini games... maybe I played it at a friend's house but just goes to show ya that DKC is such a classic! Great content Ryu!
With Super Mario World, one of the first two games I ever played/saw someone play. Truly a defining experience. Only 6 years old, still gaming nowadays lol. Whenever I wanna relax I just play some DK. Great gameplay.
Did you play DKC Returns? It has some really cool and hard levels if you find every letter in a world. On top of it there is an even crueler mirror mode after you beat the game once. Beat every level from right to left without getting hit ONCE. Sounds like a fun challenge doesn't it? 🤭
Loved seeing this. I would really like a DKC3 playthrough at some time in the future, as I think it was the best of the original 3 (especially with the extra world and all that). Still, really appreciate having this posted, as I often miss streams because of work.
damn man why'd you make me cry? At first I was all hell yeah this game was awesome, but then it started making memories come back. I remember playing this at my grammas house with my brother and two cousins. I was the youngest and the only girl. Whenever it came time to beat mine cart carnage it was always my level. I was the best at it, and could beat it in one go while getting all the items. Those were great times. My gramma had two living rooms and the first one when you walked into her house was the 'kids' living room with the game systems. We had one tv to use and all the game systems as they came out. My gramma also spent a ton of time in there playing dr mario. She was a straight up PRO at that game. the tv had a permanent burn of mario and the pill bottle on it because of her haha. If I could I would go back then and enjoy it all over again. The oldest cousin committed suicide when I was about 10. My brother has always had a problem with drugs and alcohol and is currently a florida man that I haven't seen since 2009. My other cousin has had multiple tragedies in his life and chooses not to be around family much (then again so do I). both my grandparents in that house died in 2007. Its crazy to think that in about 10 years time I went from being happy playing games with my closest family to having none of them. I don't like to think about it but damn this brought it back.

There's at least one hack of this game called Kremlin's revenge. Don't know how it holds up now though
The problem with DK is that the levels aren’t just a tile set, they have so much more to them that it would take days to make a good one. In a sense it’s too good to be a maker game.
Just finished watching the whole vid. Loved it! You should definitely play DKC2, so many great levels there as well. Genuinely well-made levels that are fairly difficult. The music is pretty good too. DKC3 and on is garbage though. I would love if you played DKC2 though!
