MMMMMM I don't think you can make that statement for any particular level man. I think people should be more conscience of picking the right school for them and not worry so much about D1 , D2 , D3 or NAIA. I talk about this quite a bit on my channel and I know from experience as well. D'Vontay played at a D3 because that's the way it shook out not necessarily because it's the only level that he could have played at. - Big Brotha Bel from Hoop Laude

As a DIII coach myself, I totally agree with your advice to not be afraid to contact coaches yourself. We cant legally talk to you guys until you are in your junior year of high school, so often times we may assume you are already committed somewhere else since other divisions can start that recruiting process earlier than us. Unless we know for sure you are still uncommitted, there's a chance you may be overlooked. Another thing you wanna do is make sure you have film whether it's for school or AAU/Club/7v7 Team doesn't matter. Any film is better than no film. It gives us a better opportunity to give you an idea of your fit in the program. And go to camps if you can afford them (I know they can be expensive but it's another way to get your name out there).

@@jamalakanbi6095 some might, but most of us won't. That said the music put with it can turn us off though. I'm fine just turning the volume off but I know some coaches that will just stop watching. Plus if its inappropriate music you're probably gonna be passed over then.
Sending film to us shows initiative and that you have an interest in our program. And it gives us a better chance to evaluate you.
Also if you do send out film, make sure you personalize the email. Don't send the email and copy tons of coaches and write "Dear Coach." Take the time to send out emails one by one and put the coaches name in the message. You may even want to put a short sentence about what interests you with that particular school.

When we are old, regret will take over and the only thing we think about is did we try and go for it? Lets face it. We all will not make nba but i realize some can make money and go play in China. It's still a pro career and you can sustain yourself there.

Dude I’m so glad a channel like you exists. As a former D3 player (2 years), we rarely get the respect. Until someone wants to get on the court with us. I used to hear so many people saying “oh I had 5 D1 offers but ya know, just hurt my knee.” Or some version of that shit. I’m not saying that doesn’t happen, but people always think they play at a much higher level than they actually do. I had D3 teammates with NBA dreams and even that is very very unrealistic. So it’s not just non-college players who can be delusional lol but regardless; the point is that I’ve never lost a game of 1v1 to a non college player 🤷‍♂️ and I wasn’t a standout D3 player by any means

    Short answer: Very good
Long answer: 3.4% of high school players play d1, d2, or d3. I'd argue that d3 players are just ask skilled as any d1 player, yet the main difference is size and athleticism. That's not to say there aren't very athletic guys in d3 who are 6'5'' and there aren't unathletic guys in d1 that are 6'3'', but it's a general guideline. I have 4 d3 offers right now (going to prep school in New England for a postgrad year). While on visits to these schools, I played pickup with the team and it's no joke. You rarely are able to get an open look from 3, and conversely, if you think you're close enough on your man, you're not because they will pop a 3 in your face. D3 basketball is a very high level, and anyone who tells you different is misinformed. I'm very lucky to have any offers, as I know several all conference, all state, top scorer, etc. players who have none. If anyone wants to see an example of a d3 player, look at my page where I have a few highlight tapes.

I’m 6’10 and just got recruited to a D3. I averaged about 17pts and 13rb in a stacked district, but we had a terrible record because we were a really small school and no one at my school wanted to play, so we usually had about 7 players who were able to play at all times. I never saw one scout at a single game lol. It honestly depends on where you play. If I went to a public school, I probably would’ve gotten way more offers.

I've seen some AMAZING players in D3 and they all have the same reason why they aren't at a D1: Size. For example, I've seen PGs who could handle like Kyrie, steal like Payton, and dish like Magic...but being under 6 foot was keeping them from going to University of (Any State). We have a guy coming next season who can hit insane Chef Curry shots from anywhere on the floor...he's 5'9". Kids, eat your veggies and drink your milk.
Another big problem: attitude. Just because you had the big swinging dick on your HS team, doesn't mean you're going to be the MVP in college. Be humble, accept criticism, never stop improving.
Keep the vids coming, I like seeing what it's like at other schools.

  • @saladboi5314
    @saladboi5314 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Honestly, great advice at the end. I play at university in the UK. Our first team is the equivalent of a D1 US team. In fact, half of the talent is from D1 in the US and I used to watch D'Vontay's videos and think: "Man this guy can handle the rock like a pro, shoot like a pro, and he's 6'2" dunking off of two feet with ease. How is he not D1?".
The easy answer is, skill doesn't automatically determine how well you perform. There's a whole lot that goes into this game in terms of thinking, exposure and individual talent etc. And every one of those things is a very key factor.
You could be the best player in the world. If nobody sees you, how are you gonna go to college?
Equally, you could handle the ball like Kyrie, shoot like Steph and dunk like LaVine... but if you don't know how to break down a defence or get yourself open, what does it matter?
    Don't compare yourself to others.

Aye I’m from Akron , went to Garfield , played d3 football at Ohio northern , d3 is really the same in terms of the work they make you put in , sometimes they’re are super talented players too , if you started in highschool on whatever team in whatever sport you can probably find yourself on a team, that’s how i would describe the talent level , some people are super ass , some people are raw asf , most of the people that start in D3 are actually really good and could play at higher levels , i say on every d3 team they’re are about 10 d2 caliber players and maybe 1 or 2 d1 caliber players , at least for football

D'Vontay Friga I know this was a long time ago but I was a walk on into my D3 team in college. I didn’t really get a chance to play in high school so I decided to quit the team and just train because I knew I would make it to college. I talked to the coach to let me tryout and I impressed in the open runs against the team. Hope that helps.
