    I learned more from watching your video than I did from the other ones thank you

    Thanks so much for this Dave! I ripped and replaced the drivers side parking break and it was brutal. I used a different YT video as a guide. That night I thought there has to be an easier way and I came across your video. I followed your guidance, especially around working with the springs, and I got it done in 30-45 min.
    Now I just need a video from you detailing a fuel pump replacement.😉

      Did I not do the fuel pump video. SolarGarage did a fuel pump video recently.

    Dave noticed on both videos you started in am and finished in pm . Maybe should reverse starting time would be able to do test drive in daylight. Lol now you understand why it's expensive to have it repaired at a shop. A lot of people don't understand what it takes to do a repair. No two same repairs end up being the same. Great job Dave.

      Absolutely Joe. At least with local repair guys, the profit goes in their pocket instead of the stealerships money goes to shareholders.

    Thanks, watched several of these videos because of extreme difficulty and very poor design of the emergency brake. If I had it to do again I would simply remove these because like yours they were not working at all. My shoes fell off when I removed the rotor. They fell the F off. Both sides. This is a horrible job and noticed you finished in the dark. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF TIME AND LOVE FRUSTRATION!. WORST EVER DESIGN AND JOB ATTEMPTED!

    Good job, and good instructional video explaining step-by-step with the specific sequence needed to replace the e-brakes. I have been replacing/maintaining my own brakes for 40 years and still dread replacing drum brakes. Maybe a mechanically actuated caliper in addition to the hydraulic ones will be the norm someday.

      I hate brake shoes with a passion. Even when I had a Mk1 MX5, it had caliper activated hand-braking. And, the shoes design never work right either, lol.

    Any adjustment to the cable itself with the nut? Or is the only adjustment you made with the little wheel thingy?

  • @mikeries8549

    Watched this twice. My dust shields rub. I'm swapping rear ends. The junkyard basically had the truck sitting on the ground without wheels so what I have is a mess but not as bad as yours.
    Pound them like yours and mine won't rub...lol😂

    Are you in the USA now? Or Scotland? The reason I ask is that typically you don’t see a lot of pick up trucks in the UK.

  • @mikeries8549

    The parking brake cable...use two pairs of channel locks and basically destroy it.
    Thar type of "clip" is asking to be destroyed.

    I've just done this job and I'm in the process of adjusting the brake shoes on my 2016 ram sport and something I've noticed in the 3 videos I've seen on TH-cam is that they are all able to spin the disc on the hub super easily not using any force and it'll spin freely, on mine for some reason there's a crazy amount of resistance and i actually have to use some strength to turn it. Even with the brake shoes completely unadjusted to the minimum I can't spin them freely with zero resistance. Does anyone who sees this, have any idea what may be wrong with my truck? Does it depend on the differential my truck may have compared to others? Also when jacked up, if I try to spin my wheel ( equally as hard to do and yes it's in neutral the whole time ) the wheel on the opposite side doesn't seem to move at all. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 2016 with 52k kms on it

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Were they spinning freely before you fitted the new shoes? Might be the wrong shoes you got.

      @@ScottRods honestly that's a good question lol I didn't think about checking if things rotated nicely before disassembling because everything was pretty seized up. But double checking my parts I'm sure everything is correct. I used the Bosch bs947 brake shoes with the raybestos h7329 hardware kit. Plus fitment was double checked prior to ordering with rockauto.com. I need to bring it to the dealership anyway for my manifold ( just out of warranty but only 52k kms out of the 100k kilometer warranty limit or 5 year mark) so I'm gonna see if they'll meet me half way on the repair of my manifold and ask them to double check why it's difficult to spin. I've got an 8 hour trip pulling a camper coming up so I want to be 100% sure it's good to go lol. Very appreciative of your videos and fast reply :)

      @@Mazda6RAM2992 Well if the parts are right, then it might just be a slight install error. I really struggled with all the BS that goes into these drum brakes. I would be concerned with driving it like it is, in case you burn up your new shoes. Are both sides binding?

    • @Mazda6RAM2992
      @Mazda6RAM2992 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScottRods yes both sides but they aren't locked up or anything, with the truck in neutral I'm able to turn the wheels, it's just harder for me than what it seems to be for others out there so it got me curious. Also I still have to tighten the brake shoes because when I apply the parking brake there's no resistance and when I move the truck it doesn't hold it, so a little like your situation at first. How you readjusted it the next day. I'm just waiting for a chance without my 4 year Olds running around

    Drum brakes can be a pain at the best of times, but parking brakes like those are better left to someone (anyone) else.

      @ScottRods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree, but If I pay for someone else to do the work I won't have any money left for project cars, lol.

      I have to do this soon on my Ram too, still debating if I'm gonna remove the axels or not. I'm leaning more towards not just because I don't have a lift and I'm not trynna open up the rear diff while crawled underneath. Doing that for the oil or when I was installing dashcams was uncomfortable enough lol
