There's always a little heaven in a disaster area. The drought has abated & the waters are receding just in time for the Santa Ana winds & a little lightning !
Thank you so much for this Tahoe Mountain Life.😊 With your footage, we were able to at least see a little bit of where our cabin is but couldn't quite see over the ginormous snowpack separating the highway as we are in the tract between St. Theresa's Church & SLk Senior Center. We are heading up there Friday and are frightened of what we might find with the condition of roof and snow amount, but keeping fingers crossed tight & say a few prayers, it's intact.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Tahoe is certainly a great place to visit and live but it's also high in the Sierra Nevada and requires a stupendous amount of resources, fuel and money to keep the roads clear during the Winter. Of course skiing industry drives the economy to make it possible, but there are many areas where most of the Sierra is closed during the Winter, particularly the Tioga Road through Yosemite which would be impossible to keep clear. As people move into areas of the state that are prone to massive widfires and deep snow potential it becomes a public burden to confront nature in both money and heroic manpower.
I seen some videos of Soda Springs, Mammoth Lakes, and like here showing Lake Tahoe area of and the same of mounds or berns piled up. I understand that this the life here in the Sierra Mountains when there's those Atmospheric Rivers come from the Pacific Ocean. I heard this slang words "Sierra Cement" years ago from somewhere. It maybe from Ski Magazine, Skiing Magazine, or a Warren Miller ski film. Even though I never been in this part of the country in person, I seen TH-cam videos and news stories to know idea what it looks like there. What happens after a snowstorm and the residential streets are clogged with several feet of snow. Does all businesses close down including the ski resorts? My skiing days all said and done maybe it's over for me. I have various health problems and no vehicle to get around when I need to. Be safe when shoveling snow off roofs.
Yes, sierra cement for sure. Generally the town stays open through almost any storm but recently things have been different with more stores shutting down with back to back storms. Heavenly has been closed 3 days in the past 2 weeks, which is rare.
Learned to ski in 95 at Kirkwood. While standing next to instructor I asked about snow levels and he pointed to a small foot tall pine sapling to inform me that it was the top of a 40 foot tree!! Serious snow

Don't trail emergency vehicles, show a real lack of respect for the emt and other people in traffic.
