Nobody but nobody can belt it out quite like the Welsh. After hearing this epic song & the Welsh national anthem you feel like you could run through a brick wall.
Well done, guys! You chose the perfect video version of this, which is considered to be the second National Anthem of Wales (Cymru). I wish more people reacted to it. Diolch yn fawr!
You need to see him performing this live at the Stadium. The performer, Dafydd Iwan, gets quite emotional. He's spent much of his life campaigning on behalf of Welsh language rights and seeing a stadium of people belt his song back to him some 30 years after he wrote it was something very special.
They are singing in the national language of Wales which is Welsh. English is the National language of England and Northern Ireland. The national language of Scotland is Scottish Gaelic. Wales are a very proud country where the majority of the people love their country and many speak Welsh which has absolutely nothing to do with England but they are British and are part of Great Britain together with England and Scotland. When my late Mother's country of Northern Ireland is added to Great Britain becomes The United Kingdom. The Welsh are well known to be the best singers in the UK plus they have great food just like the rest of the UK, The capital city of Wales is Cardiff which is a vibrant and incredible city. Rugby is the National sport of Wales with Football being in Second place. Even though my surname is Welsh my name comes from the Republic of Ireland as my late Dad and his side of the family came from The Republic of Ireland, but if I went to visit Wales my surname would be a common Welsh surname and the Welsh people would think that I was Welsh or Welsh decent but I am English/Northern Irish/Irish. 💂♂️🇬🇧🏴🇮🇪
The national language of Scotland is English, or variations on it such as lalland and doric. Gaelic is spoken in parts of the Hebrides by a small but proud number of people (of which an even smaller number are 'first language'). Interestingly, Welsh - or at least a slightly older version of it - was spoken across southern Scotland and northern England before English came to dominate. Hence why the Lake District is also known as Cumbria, and why there are Scottish places with names such as Ecclefechan.
@JohnTaylor-cc6tm The national language of Scotland is Scottish Gaelic not English, it's because that the English invaded Scotland and banned the use of Scottish Gaelic, that the Scots were only allowed to speak English by law. The Same goes for the Welsh, the Irish and the Cornish people. You really should learn the true history and not some crap that you read or brainwashed with. 💂♂️🇬🇧🏴🇮🇪 I AM DONE WITH YOU.
Also, The Isle of Man, in the middle of the Irish Sea, had their own language, Manx. Unfortunately, they now have no native speakers. Cornwall has Cornish, which is reviving slowly. But Wales has the most speakers of the native languages of Britain. They have Welsh medium schools and in the English medium ones, they have to have Welsh lessons every week. Not that easy to learn as it has some difficult consonants, close to Arabic. From Yorkshire, Watch "Dafydd Iwan and the red wall" at a football match, singing.
My fathers family came from north Englands mines to the new mines in The Valleys ( not sure how far back that was ) but they settled in the valley next to Aberfan and there’s no way I can pronounce it but I’ll have a go at spelling it ( Trewdderhew) …anyway , Aberfan kids are bussed there for school now since that awful tragedy ……So , I have 4 Welsh grandparents , therefore I AM Welsh and proudly so and I KNOW that our language will endure and I thank EVERYONE involved in keeping that so.!!!❤❤❤🏴🇬🇧
Thank you for featuring one of my country’s incredible song. Please listen to our anthem because it’s beautiful & moving especially when we sing at our rugby matches. It’s called Mae hen wlad fy nhadau. He’s speaking Welsh our country’s national language. You should listen to one of our Military songs to it’s called “I vow to thee my country”
Dafydd Iwan comes from Caerfyrddin (meaning Merlin's Castle) in SW Wales. He is singing in Cymraeg (Welsh), the ancient Brythonic Celtic language, my mother tongue, still spoken daily by about 650,000 people in Wales (and beyond). I spoke no English before starting school, as our radio programmes, tv and newspapers are in Welsh. West Africa, for example, is Affrig Gorllewin in Welsh. 🏴
The Welsh language is over 1,400 years old, with origins in the Bronze Age. It is Britain's oldest language and has evolved through several stages: Primitive Welsh, Old Welsh, Middle Welsh, and Modern Welsh
Where do you get 1,400 years from? The Welsh Tourist board says "If Welsh can seem complex and beautiful, it's because it's spent 4,000 years evolving." I can't see where people get either of those dates from!
We fought hard to keep our language and you will see it everywhere in Wales. You should look into the history of England vs Wales to understand why its so important to us. Cymru am byth! 🏴🏴🏴
Some of the translation is a little off. There is no mention on England's might in the lyrics. 'Er gwaetha hen Fagi a'i chriw' actually means 'despite old Maggie and her crew' - a reference to Margaret Thatcher.
You have to come to wales we have best flag and anthem in the world and friendly people we have our own language and love singing and playing rugby pay us a visit sometime in the summer is best.🏴🏴
Cornwall and Cumbria both come from ancient Briton, or Welsh. Cornwaelas and Cumbria both deriving from Cymraeg (countryman; among other similar translations). Our next closest speaker are those of Brittany, who also speak a Celtic language with a similar branch
Dafydd Iwan is quite a hero and has I think actually gone to jail because of being pro Welsh Language which was very frowned upon in the 1970's and before.
Compare the words to the USA national Anthem which is all about war against the "English": And the rockets' red glare The bombs bursting in air Gave proof through the night That our flag was still there Let the wind blow from the East, let the storm roar from the sea, let the lightning split the heavens, and the thunder shout "encore!" Much the same message, but the Welsh are much better at ballads, the story starts One thousand six hundred years ago instead of 213, and fortunately this is not the true story of Wales, only the "Unofficial" propaganda version from someone about as accurate with the truth as Trump! Wales as a country has only existed for 489 years, although there have been people here for a quarter million years.

We have worked hard to keep our language and culture 🏴😊from north wales
I am 68 yrs old and Welsh was spoken in the home ,I learnt English in school my mam told me .😊🏴

@@adrianhughes8143 welsh kids were physically beaten and abused if they spoke welsh in school
The official languages of Scotland are Gaelic, Scots and English. Parliamentary documents can be produced in all three languages.

They teach Manx in school and there is 1 primary school where Manx is the first language.

The official Anthem by 60,000 welsh voices at Millennium Stadium.(rugby homegame) is what you need to see.

There is also Cornish which is similar to Welsh.
Us Welsh and Cornish must stick together. As a Welshman, when I visit Cornwall I always feel at home.
