First time I saw him live was Laughlin, NV circa 1984, and this song was in his set. Being a sax player myself, I always sneak peaks around the audience to see if they are enjoying any sax player, just to develope a feel for an audience regarding a sax, and by the time Boots was 2/3 through this song I could see feelings cresting to tears rolling on many of the men. So this was my one and only time ever knowing of an instrumentalist getting tears and it was men, imagine that! The women appeared to be very moved but even more so with men, as the tears would attest. So to me this is the ultimate praise or testimonial to this artist. This was in Don Laughlins casino (founder of the town and casino owner). The sound engineer did not crank the sound up to clipping distortion as has become so typical nowadays, so the sound system was spot on, so just a profoundly enjoyable and memorable experience. So I stuck around for an autograph and he was so warm and personable with fans. His band stuck with him long term so he must have been a great guy to work for. I'll be retiring soon and then I will find the time to post some video of him live on television from a casino in Atlantic City circa 1992, which doesn't seem to exist except in my own library. For now, I'm going to hit replay 😊
Boots inspired me to learn the sax as a young boy. I got to see him perform in Reno and shake his hand after the performance. It was truly a dream come true.
When I was 11-12? years old, I wanted to play the saxophone. As a kid of the early 80's, I was inspired by the "Benny Hill theme" (Yakety Sax). Sadly, the alto and tenor sections were full, and I got stuck with clarinet. Ah, what could've been....
My high school band director SHATTERED Gordon Kuehnnemann's teenage heart when he said (about Mr. Randolph,) "He does EVERYTHING WRONG!" I said, "Yeah, Pop, I cannot believe he sells jillions of records and tours the world and elsewhere !" LOL
I believe, the video is outta sync with the sound, but regardless, he's a great performer, and this is a great song! Take care, and God Bless. The Preacherman.
He was a tenor player (as I am) .We don't allow taste to enter into our musings. We have emotions and technique. Think of us as the Gabor sisters of the wind instruments.
I didnt like this video because when i was watching it the audio and video didnt match up.i noticed that when u took a breathe the music was still play. Then i noticed that he was a little on the Fake said. He sounded like Milly Vinneli...or maybe its an old video

The great Boots Randolph ! It's because of him that I started playing the sax when I was 4 years old and continue on today. Thanks Boots.
the absolute master of the sax. he had the tone, taste, and feel, and he let the music breathe. what a treasure!
Boots was absolutely amazing!
One of the greatest saxophone players ever
One of the most perfect sax performances i've ever seen.
My Uncle is his drummer and was for 25 rocking years!
Can't understand why folks are so critical. Its a treat that these video treasures are available to post.
No, Boots is the god of saxsophone! The best sax player ever!!!
long live Boots, the tenor sax king!
Played central Illinois for 4 years around Decatur Illinois in the bygone era of Supper Clubs

What a beautiful sound that is
This Boots version, and this from C. Hawkins are the best.
Best music this side of Heaven.
Glorious sense of dynamics!...He can even make sound good this corny arrangement.
That's awesome!
Excelente Interpretación !
@Preacherman1882 yep it looks that way but it's a kickass performance anyway =)
Strange and beautiful at the same time is how he treats his Sax sexily. 😌
And to imagine that the sax was outlawed in Cuba. Dr. Castro have you any soul? Listen to Boots interpret gospel hymns too. Thanks for this.
PERFECT!
God said "boots, play the sax."
Magnifique ! ! !

It's fine that there's different preferences of music out there but anyone who dislikes this has the wrong ones.

What amazes me is how he can blow notes while taking in a breathe of air, must know some big don't know please tell me
This is an advanced technique and is absolutely possible with practice. Yes,sir.
Csodás tenorszaxafonos
この、ブーツランドルフのテナーサックスは、アメセルマーク6らしいですが、マウスピースは、デユコフみたいです、デユコフは、こんなに柔らかい音色は出ないのですが、すごく柔らかい音色ですね。

Believe me, Boots is NO fake. Dated video I would suspect. When I view it, it's fine. Just listen to "the master saxman".
+Fred Damian No Fake........just old tape

Bass is too damn loud, wrecking the song.
As a tenor sax AND bass player, I agree 100%
