I am a hard core jazz fan for the last 50 odd years and Boots is still up there in the pantheon of tenor gods with Brecker, Trane, Curtis, Getz, Hawkins, Prez, Webster and the other great stylists who give us someone to believe in. All different, all alike, all from the heart and soul.
Just love Boots. I have all that he put out on vinyl. Came across this by accident looking for something else. What a great find. Thanks. Really appreciate your trouble putting this on TH-cam!!!
I never got to see & hear him in person, so this is the next best thing! Thank You very much. We did speak on the phone in 2004 though, and he gave me some valuable pointers in playing technique; very gracious & I'll treasure that memory. p.s. My aunt lived next door to the old Arthur Smith studio in Charlotte years ago. Thank You again! Boots was still kicking it out to be in his late '70s wasn't he?
Like fine wine; he just gets better with age. I played the sax when I was younger. Never played it straight. I wonder why?! What's not to love 'bout this sax man? I played an e-flat alto and loved to create my own renditions too. (Drove my mother nuts. And she was a singer from the days of Goodman and Crosby) Go figure -
I'm loving this performance! Boots would sound great on any horn, but here he's playing a Selmer USA 164 Omega from the 1980's. Man that tenor sounds FAT and full!

So cool to see Boots perform live . I’ve always so admired his playing and grew up listening to his records. Thanks for sharing!
You are awesome Boots Randolph God bless and make the best music as you know how to do it.
