One of the few benefits to being this old...it's worth it...watching Larry, DJ, Kevin, Chief, Bill (both of them..I'm old) and the rest of them live was surreal. My brother was a Knick fan and would understand Rick's view, but my bro finally moved to CA and became, of all things, a Laker fan!!! (But Larry was always his guy.)
It is good to see you guys reminisce so positively, because those times were good times. Even though you played to win and it wasn’t always pleasant at the time.
That's part of the game I think some don't understand. Yes, they were competitive and played rough......but they didn't "hate" each other. It's just part of that competitive spirit...that is sadly missing in today's NBA.
Doc Hurley used to ref our high school games way back in the day around Hartford. He was everywhere back then. Good man. Ricky was the little brother to Owen Big O Mahorn, another very good player, went to Weaver HS. Good family.
I used to go to a lot of Bullets games in Landover Maryland back when Rick Mahorn and Jeff Ruland were young players with Washington. I would go down to the court during warm ups and beg for autographs on this old red, white and blue ABA basketball. Rick and Jeff signed it as well as Dr J, Mo Cheeks, Wes Unseld, Bobby Dandrige, Bobby Jones etc. Kareem wouldnt even look at me when I tried to get him to sign the ball. He was a dick. Dr J took the ball and got half the team to sign it. Dr J was cool .
Being born in '73, I remember going to the old Cap Center and seeing those teams. Also remember having the Dr J vs Larry Bird computer game for my PCjr. Saw the 76ers with Charles Barkley as a rookie in 1986 playing my beloved Bullets. (Change the name back, Wizards and Commanders, dammit!)
I shook Ricks hand at Jasons , Windsor Ontario. Him and AD were enjoying the scenery of absolutely beautiful ladies from Quebec. His hands were as soft as a babies behind. Basketball in the 80 s was the best.
First of all we Love Rick here in the Hartbeat!!!! I'm from Hartford born and raised and a Celtic fan all my life. we just didn't like how he played!! We are very proud of Rick and what he did for Basketball and for Hartford. Now his fellow Piston (Bill) I don't even think his own mother like him.
Guess because you were a Celtics fan, you didn't realize they would kick the crap out of the teams they played. The league was brutal back then, specially in the playoffs. It's the Celtics that lead the Pistons to hire a Hockey Team. Them, along with many other teams did. The East in those days had some of the toughest NBA teams in history. The Bucks, the 6ers, the Hawks, with the top dog Celtics. Fists would fly quite often when you'd play against any of those guys. But make no mistake, the Celtics were the heavyweight champions in those years. You weren't going to Eurostep into the lane with Bird, Maxwell, Parish or McHale on the court. Get you 4th row bleacher seats for some popcorn. The Celtics were brutal.
Mahorn was being interviewed after his Piston's years while he was playing for an Italian team. His experience of the European personal hygiene and their bathroom designs caused him to remark , , "Man, they've got these second toilet things over there,,, I don't know what they're called,,, uh, something like ,, I don't know ,, a Buttonette." OMG. The perfect description of a bidet. He was loved in Metro Detroit years after. And yes he was the dream for many a white female. The dream be truth told.
This is one of the funniest interviews I ever seen Max do….only the Chief made me laugh more…but this was a close second! 😂❤😅❤
😂😂😂❤
If there's a video about the Celtics...I can count on you being there! 🤣😂🤣 I'm just trying to catch up! lol

Absolutely! The teams of the 80s would mug today's teams.
The 80s was best era these cats all got the best stories😂😂😂
"It wasn't one of them prefab booties" lol

I don't know what a prefab bootie or IBC is. I'm not street enough I guess.

Oh hearing the silky smooth call from Mike Gorman at the start of that clip brings back memories.
Mahorn kept looking over his shoulder like I hope she's not hearing this😂😂😂
Rick was a good defender but got rosted by Larry Bird. The whole league did really. 😂
The legendary Rick Mahorn and legendary Doc Hurley two Weaver Beavers! This story is GOLD!
I’m in Ct. I was at that game. We were only booing because we respected you.
And we wanted our Celtics to whoop you. :)
Haha.
Well....that's a..... decent excuse! 🤣😂🤣
It's like pro wrestling. If they boo or cheer they have an opinion of you. If there is silence, they don't care.

I used to have to go to Hartford because the Garden was always sold out
Rick mahorn, Maurice Lucas, Charles Oakley, these guys were enforcers.
Yep. Don't forget the late Anthony Mason, as he combined very good dribbling skill for being such an over-muscled beast.
Lonnie Shelton
You don’t miss coaching or practice
You miss being with the guys you sweated with won and lost with
If’s the same for military people too, trust me.

All I gotta say is Larry took a predominantly white to three championships and damn close to a fourth one. You’re telling me Jordan could do that.
Still waiting on the Larry Bird trash talk story. 🤷🏻♂️

Yeah, he said Bird is telling him something, but we don't get to hear what that something was.

I can appreciate and respect that Celtic team now, but I sure as hell hated them back then.
