  • Cold Process liquid soap making video using potassium hydroxide using 100% olive oil. This video also answers 5 common questions I get asked a lot about liquid soap making. Hope you enjoy this video!
Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!
Its been a while and I am so sorry that I have delayed this video for so long. This footage is old footage of making 100% olive oil soap along with the 100% coconut oil soap where it makes it easy for me to mix the two soap paste in different proportions for different purposes. This is the fun part with liquid soap where you can still play with the soap after stages of saponification. You can check out the video where I have diluted the two paste together HERE: • Diluting Liquid Soap P...
5 common questions asked about liquid soaps:
1:11 Can I use sodium hydroxide instead of potassium hydroxide?
2:43 Why is your recipe formula not in grams but in percentage?
5:29 What is the difference between cold process method and hot process method when making liquid soap?
7:42 How do you thicken your soap?
9:07 What preservatives can you use to preserve liquid soaps?
The recipe I am using in this video:
    100% Olive oil
    1% superfat
1:3 lye:water concentration (you can use a 1:2 concentration and it will help the soap trace faster)
Remember to use potassium hydroxide or you will end up making solid soap bars!
Time stamps for the steps to make 100% olive oil soap:
    1:04 Making of lye solution
1:25 Mixing of lye solution and oils
3:25 How do you use the soap calculator?
    6:58 Thick applesauce stage
    7:01 Watery Mashed potato stage
7:14 Soap paste after 24 hours
8:44 Soap paste after 48 hours

Thanks for this video you answered two of my questions, one was about preservatives after water has been added for diluting and the other was can the paste be stored then used as and when so i dont need to add preservatives. Thanks i cant wait to try this.

Would do you make a liquid soap pH 7?

    • @TheScraftworks

I wouldn’t because homemade soap naturally have a higher pH And pH doesn’t make harsh on the skin.

My soap paste is hard, but it dissolves and lathers well. What could have made it hard?

Maybe the weather- colder weather makes the soap paste harder. Have you used the same amount of water that is in my recipe? Lower amounts of water makes it harder too. As long as it passes through the zap test I think the texture doesn’t really matter. Thank you!
