    Kapsalon really reminds me of the Halal Snack Pack in Australia. Main difference is instead of the salad on top it’s either garlic and chili sauce OR gravy

      You can get HSP with salad on top too, just depends where you are. A place near north sydney does exactly kapsalon, albeit its with chicken pieces and coleslaw instead of the same salad, but i suppose most HSP is generally just chips + meat + sauce so... i've seen snack pack type things also in germany and slovakia that come with pickles and garlic sauce type thing, im not sure they really picked a distinct local difference for this one.

    • @IrmaU94

    I think Spaff did deserve half a point for that.I think it might be a worthwhile rule to consider, that if your prompt lists a couple of other countries where the food is also eaten very similarly, naming one of those countries that were in the prompt should be rewarded with half a point. Half a point feels right too, because then what it does is just act as a tie-breaker.

      @sefribu4159 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Not only did he deserve that point, it is bloody annoying to see Mr. "I just name random spices during an identification challenge" first cry because of the idea of giving half a point to Jamie, just to generously allow him to get that after he was able to remember a video he had seen the night before that made sure he´d win....

A flabread wrap that contains atleast one hotdog, thick or thin, mashed potatoes, mustard and ketchup and pickle relish (bostongurka). Thats the classic but common to have added 'Räksallad' (shrimp sallad) or 'Skagenröra' which both are shrimp and mayo ... things, delicious.

The AB pack is actually older than the kapsalon, dating back to at least the 80s if not earlier to the late 60s early 70s depending on which restaurant you believe created it where as thr kapsalon was created in 2003. It is interesting though that so many countries came up with similar dishes independently of each other

    Murtabak does indeed have a beloved Indian version! It's called Mughlai Paratha- literally paratha a la Mughals. It was adapted, as Mike mentioned, through the trade routes and Mughal conquests, ultimately finding a home in Eastern India- the streets and hearts of Calcutta. The method of preparation is much the same except, the filling usually incorporates eggs along with the meat component, with mutton and chicken being the preferred options. Plain beaten eggs with finely chopped onions, garlic, chillies and coriander is also a popular option among those who don't consume meat. The aromas wafting from the street stalls is delirium inducing.

      I'm from Europe and Spaff mentioning that cheese would be amazing with it, I immeditaly guessed the arabian peninsula. It had the Arab "feeling" to me, but it couldn't be a mediterrean country due to the lack of cheese.

    • @noangelthis
      @noangelthis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@etuanno There are some 'fusion' versions available in stalls trying to appeal to the trendy, instagramming crowd but the addition of beaten eggs in the Calcutta street version does add a 'creamier' more unctuous texture even without the use of any cheese. Although, the addition of cheese to most dishes is rarely unwelcome!

    10:00 I thought about _martabak_ for the third one, but we don’t usually serve it with any type of citrus in Indonesia, but I do know about _muttabaq_ being the original version of the dish.
    16:23 I thought Barry was going to guess Vietnam for the fourth one when he asked about the sandwich 😂 I don’t really like _norimaki_ because I am not a fan of fish, so having _gimbap_ as an option is great.

      The older generation still knows some Dutch, but they are slowly dying out, of course. We know about martabak in the Netherlands because a lot of people brought it along with them when they settled here because of the independence of Indonesia. There is still a strong bond between the two nations today and a lot of travel between the two countries. Indonesian food has become our second kitchen, after the Dutch of course, to enjoy.

      Oh it’s not true about the older generation speaking Dutch in Indonesia. You’d be very disappointed if you come to our country expecting some random old people on the street to converse with you in Dutch LOL. You’d have more chance meeting Indonesians who speak German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, French, and (especially nowadays) Korean because those are the usual languages offered as electives at schools.
      Even just before the independence, only 4% of the population spoke Dutch, and that already included the Dutch, the Indos, and other Europeans. My late grandparents did speak a little Dutch, but I acknowledge their privilege which wasn’t shared by most of the population.
