As a Somali from northern region ( Somaliland ) we won’t break up with Somalia 🇸🇴 even the criteria aren’t strong enough for a self determination since we share the Same values , language , culture and history with our southerners Somalis . Ethiopia in the other hand will split to pieces and sink cause there are so many differences between the communities living there . Ethiopia will not have an inch of our sea or sands , it is time for the diaspora to unify and return to build a stronger Somalia 🇸🇴.

The greater Somali nationalism is always there and not becausr o some fake irrendentism idea (the Italian orgin word) as you would like to believe us. It is real and organic thing and it is something that was born out of necessity and oppression when European colonials cruelly and forcefully divided same people and community without their consents and subjucated badly. The only thing that is ever acceptable to Somali people and are willing to relent in exchange is if the still illegally occupied territories like the Ethiopian Somalia region and Kenyan region, to some extent, would respect for Somali ethnic people's basic and full citizenship rights , but not treat as and relegate to third citizenship rate , outright aliens status or worse in their own ancestral lands at best. If these neighboring countries act on good faith and civilized way of working through trade, developmental of socio-economic and regional integration and peaceful co-existence then that would be fine. Unfortunately, they are not even pretending to do it albeit Somalia's willing to go an extra mile to cooperate with everything. As matter of fact , they want to do the opposite by trying to occupy and annex even more lands from Somalia like the behavior of current Ethiopian regime shows. They are this doing action on the basis of nonexistent historical claims and fairlytales of own old irredentism and expansionist theory over the whole Somali peninsula.

Eventually all nations will be inhabited by their original people. Fake european borders cant make a country. In europe countries are divided by ethnicities. They have fought many wars for that. The same will happen in Africa and east africa. Many wars will be fought but there will be no colonization of people by other people. Somalia will be reunited with West Somalia and NFD. I must note that a referendum to join somalia was held in djibouti, From wikipedia: In 1958, on the eve of neighboring Somalia's independence in 1960, a referendum was held in Djibouti to decide whether to be an independent country or to remain with France. The referendum turned out in favour of a continued association with France, partly due to a combined yes vote by the sizable Afar ethnic group and resident Europeans. There were also reports of widespread vote rigging, with the French expelling thousands of Somalis before the referendum reached the polls. The majority of those who voted no were Somalis who were strongly in favour of joining a united Somalia as had been proposed by Mahmoud Harbi, Vice President of the Government Council. Harbi died in a plane crash two years later under mysterious circumstances.

The guy who made the video doesn't understand this topic. Somaliweyn is five regions that are the native lands of Somalis historically, not home to "diaspora", and that's what the 5-pointed star in our flags mean. These are South Somalia, North Somalia (Somaliland), Somali Region in Ethiopia, Djibouti and NFD region in Kenya. Socotra has never been part of it.
Bro we don’t consider it part of our land. We know island of socotra isn’t ours and never was and will be. All love to our Yemeni brothers and Sisters. 🇸🇴👏🇾🇪😊
The island of socotra has no Yemen roots, the people on the island are called socotri and have been apart of somali states from since antiquity and the rise of islam all the way up until the colonial period. Socotra is apart of Somalia. It is only recently with the british where it has been given to Yemen. In fact, oman and the UAE have a more stronger claim to the island after somalia then Yemen does
The dispute with socotra is about its proximity to somalia and the implications it has on maritime boundaries. We dont want the island, yemenis live there everyone knows that, its about the waters.

Cuba 🇨🇺 alone sent 16,000 commandos to defend Ethiopia, while Yemen sent brigades to support Ethiopia, and Russia provided full support with both military equipment and ground forces. South Germany, Israel, and North Korea were also on their side. Thus, Somalia was fighting against all of these countries by itself. The U.S. withdrew its support from Somalia when it realized that the Somali Democratic Republic forces were taking over nearly all of Ethiopia. Consequently, Somalia was left stranded without foreign support, while Ethiopia had numerous foreign supporters. The whole world knows that Ethiopia couldn’t defeat Somalia on its own, so they sent ground forces to support Ethiopia. This means Somalia was facing naval, air, and ground foreign forces on the battlefield. This is one reason the world today is hesitant to allow Somalia to rebuild its national army; they know it could reclaim its lands from Ethiopia and Kenya. However, no matter what happens, we will one day regain our lost territories, sooner or later. Every Somali carries the memory of their missing territories in their heart and mind.

It's ironic how you didn't mention that somalia had more support from other countries, including soviet union until half the war, while Ethiopia, the countries that supported us, knew Ethiopia was at a great disadvantage one because somalia was prepared for an invasion while Ethiopia was in the civil war from Eritrea tigray oromo afar Amhara everywhere the Government was fighting and most of the army was in the north not to mention the famine oil and economic crisis so somalia needed Ethiopia to be at its most weakest to have little success lol the only reason we had that much support is because our allies knew somalia was a coward with too much advantage against temporarily weak Ethiopia that fact that somalis brag about their little success is funny considering we didn't take credit when we took your capital in 2008 during tplf Government lol
@@aradat9671 First of all, you don’t need to look for excuses for your weaknesses at the time because insurgents existed on both sides. Somalia was fighting against the SNM, SSDF, USC, and SPM. We were confident in our government, and without a doubt, if Addis Ababa hadn’t received foreign support, it would have been taken over by our red berets and would have become our second capital city. Secondly, don’t brag about what your troops did in Mogadishu in 2008. Civilians were slaughtering and dragging Ethiopian soldiers through the streets of Mogadishu, just as we did to Americans in 1993. Your greatest losses occurred in Mogadishu, where thousands of Ethiopian soldiers were massacred. It’s still on Al Jazeera’s archives. So don’t brag about 2008; it was a significant loss for you and your government. When it comes to the battlefield, Ethiopians know us well-don’t mistake us for Italians. Today, we are simply waiting until December 2024. If Ethiopia doesn’t pull its troops out of Somalia, they will face a similar loss.
To be honest, Greater Somalia does exist as we speak. The land mass referred to as Greater Somalia is joined together and all the Somalis living in that region are in contact and function as one ethnicity, “Somalis”. Therefore, the divisions on world map is no more than psychological and political division. Greater Somalia does exist in practice and will always remain to exist. Eritrea relation with ethiopia is much different to the one between northern somalis. Eritrea is a wholly different people compared to the destructive conglomeration of ethnic groups ethiopia is . They had their own histories prior to ethiopia becoming a country with colonialism.
Somalia made Ethiopia landlocked by supporting Eritrea and was denied a victory in the Ogaden by a Superpower intervention. If it can extract its oil wealth in the coming decades with Turkey’s support and continues training its military in the latter’s academies to first world standards, then there is no doubt in my mind it will result in the eventual fragmentation of Ethiopia as a state. Somalia was in disarray for decades, yet all countries across the world refuse to see it break up into pieces. If Ethiopia implodes with several more 1 million plus deaths level genocides in Tigray and Amhara, then there is NO force in the world that can keep that country together, it will go the way of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union, while Somalia has too many commonalities that will eventually result in nationwide reconciliation when every region starts seeing billions of dollars from oil, gas, uranium profits and thousands of ships starting docking the 10+ Panamax ports dotting around the Somali coastline. Keep an eye on the Oruc Reis survey, its results will swing the pendulum of destiny towards Somalia.
Exactly. The great thing about Ethiopia is that its very foundation and framework are utterly fucked. A patchwork of ethnicities and cultures all forced into a country with little commonalities with each other. The "Ethiopian" label is nothing more than a vague regional identity with no real history behind it for the vast majority of groups in the country. What this results in is that not a single decade goes by without some major ethnic conflict for power or secession that ends up killing millions. All that means is that it allow for Somalia to recover itself while Ethiopia inevitable goes through its nth chimpout. Ethiopia couldn't even enjoy the fruits of victory that it achieved in 1977 without tearing itself apart hence why civil war still raged on throughout the 80s which really explains why Ethiopia isn't that much better than Somalia. The system in the country and the very idea of Ethiopia itself is inherently flawed. All the Somali beef you see nowadays are rooted in political issues rather than historical or cultural. As you said we are all the same so Somalis will eventually sort each others issues and reconcile.
you articulated the difference between greater somalia and the fragmented disaster called ethiopia really well. With somalia, their unification is a matter of when. We share commanlities and the future for somalia is very good with oil and its growing allies. Ethiopia on the other hand, a conglomerate of 80 something ethnic groups that all hate each other, a patchwork of independant nations with their own militaries and rebels threaded together by the authoritarian government. Ethnic clashes happen on the daily, and they still havent had the blowback from their colonial expansion aided by europe in the early 1900s. Its a ticking time bomb ready to explode, you can already see happening with the tigray war and the amount of rebel groups present.

Your statement reveals a deep misunderstanding of Somali history and identity. Before the imposition of colonial borders, what we now refer to as Greater Somalia was home to one of the most homogeneous and unified peoples in the world. The Somali people have long shared a common culture, language, and lineage that predates any colonial intervention. Despite the artificial boundaries drawn by European powers-particularly the British-Somalis have always recognized their traditional lands and moved freely across them, maintaining their unity and identity. What you call the "Somali State of Ethiopia" is known to us as Western Somalia. Similarly, the North-Western territory of Kenya, referred to as the Northern Frontier District (NFD), is seen as Southern Somalia. Alongside Djibouti and Northern Somalia, these regions form the greater Somali homeland. The five-pointed star on our flag symbolizes this connection, with each point representing a region of Greater Somalia, emphasizing the shared heritage and unity of our people. This sense of unity did not begin with the Dervish movement; it has existed for thousands of years, long before colonial borders were imposed. It is a reflection of the historical, cultural, and familial bonds that define the Somali people. One of the many things Western observers fail to understand is the devastating impact these arbitrary borders have had on our people. The artificial division of Somali lands has led to brutal consequences, including genocides and oppression by the Ethiopian and Kenyan governments, causing immense suffering. The borders drawn by colonial powers do more than divide lands; they divide families, communities, and bloodlines. The people on both sides of these borders are the same, sharing ancestry, heritage, and even cemeteries where their ancestors rest. The lineage that connects us transcends these imposed boundaries, and the colonial lines mean nothing to a people who have long known where they belong. Greater Somalia is not an abstract political idea-it is the essence of who we are when freed from the corrupt colonial systems that have been imposed on us. My own family’s history illustrates this deeply. My grandfather is buried in what is now labeled the "Somali State of Ethiopia." My father was born in the northern regions, and I was born in the capital city. My mother's family lives in what colonial maps call the Somali region of northern Kenya. As nomadic people who have traditionally moved with our camel herds, we know our land intimately and have always moved freely within it, never recognizing the false borders drawn by foreign powers. In essence, Greater Somalia is simply the land of the Somali people, unbound by colonialism’s artificial divisions. It is Somaliland, and it always has been.

the concept of a Greater Somalia was first proposed by Ernest Bevin, and his intentions were not because he was sympathetic to the cause of Somalia but were based on pure realpolitik, power-driven self-interest, in which he sought the consolidation of the Somali-inhabited regions under British trusteeship as a means to protect the interests of the British Empire in Africa in the shifting post-WW2 world order led by the U.S., which saw traditional European colonization as outdated and untenable, as well as counterproductive in its war of ideas with the then-Soviet Union, and therefore forced the Europeans to give up their overt colonial possessions and get on board with the subtle, covert methods of neocolonialism, which was a covert rebranding of Western dominance through the creation of international organizations like the UN and the World Bank, where the rules were set to serve Western interests, along with NGOs, puppet leaders, economic aid, structural adjustment programs, orchestrating coups, and what have you, subtly perpetuating Western hegemony all the while ostensibly promoting independence, giving the newly 'independent' nation-states in Africa the false impression that Western imperialism was a thing of the past, and by the time Somalia emerged as a new nation, the idea of Greater Somalia, which was first cooked up as a neocolonial strategy, had already been embraced and transformed into a genuine aspiration by Somalis themselves

In 1958, on the eve of neighboring Somalia's independence in 1960, a referendum was held in Djibouti to decide whether to be an independent country or to remain with France.
It’s nice that every individual has the inherent right to believe in their own dreams and alternate realities🤔

Famine and drought were also present, yet we fought against you like lions. Don’t make excuses for your loss. We didn’t bow to foreign powers for rescue like your president did at that time.
Labelling it officially on a map is another story.
I think someone gave you an error history. Zaid Mohamed was the hero of somalis and somalia but the greater Somalia was made before him. This word is one of Somalis legacy.
before the Italian colonialism there was no such thing called greater Somalia. it was the Abyssinians Christians (that includes both Eretria and Ethiopia) vs the Adal Muslim sultanate trying to Establish their culture and expand to one another.
there was no Somalia nor Ethiopia or set borders at that time. the one with biggest army always draws the border.
We ogadenians will never ever Accept what’s so called Ethiopia we need independence from the Ethiopian colonial regime All this hard condition caused by the British colony we are saying loudly we need our Ogaden region to come back
Greater Somalia will become a reality in the future insha'Allah.

Northern Somaliland only 4.5 million
Djibouti 2.5 million

Ethiopia inv/ded and annexed Somali Galbeed/Ogaden during the 19th like they did with Eritrea in 1962
Good to see you Eritrean post
They did not even annex, they were gifted in a deal that did not even involve the somalis. They didnt even have any real control over it until post ogaden war in the 70s where they tightened their grip and started to oppress the people there even more for expressing their desire to join somalia as they were being neglected and only kept for its resources.
bro I think you lack the understanding on how civilizations worked in the premodern era. things weren't as black and white back then.
Eritrea is the Somali Land to Ethiopia. and no Ethiopia didn't annexed Somali Galbeed/Ogaden. because borders weren't drawn at that time so there was no such thing as Somalia or Ethiopia or Eretria. the proto Ethiopian kingdom Expanded to towards the south because to unite the waring tribes and face the colonialist with a stronger united front. and they did.
if it wasn't the waring tribes uniting under Ethiopian banner they would've been enslaved. Italy tried to divide the tribes and the leaders but they still all united under Minilik the 2nd's army and defeated the colonizers that include Somali Galbeed/Ogaden, they have places named after their generals in Addis.
what type of historical revisionist b.s. are you pushing? Lets dismantle your confused view.
Eritrea relation with ethiopia is much different to the one between northern somalis. Eritrea is a wholly different people compared to the destructive conglomeration of ethnic groups ethiopia is . They had their own histories prior to ethiopia becoming a country with colonialism.
Greater Somalia will become reality ❤

Somali unity is bound to happen somali unity is strong and with the growing investment into the country if there is political rest the somali people will join and unite together ethiopia itself is bound to collapse it has always been on the virge of a full split and that will soon happen somalia has tried peace with them but clearly with the new found conflict involving the sea and ports and somalias unity with ethiopia i predict within the next decade ethiopia either losing its land to militias or collaspsing as whole and possible seaing the western somali region becoming either a somaliland if somalia dont fix their or joining with somalia if somalia if finally ok but SOON DIRE DAWA WILL BE PART OF THE GREAT SOMALI STATE
*Having your nation split 4 ways isn't irridentism if you want to lift the occupation of your land*
Eastern Germany was still considered germany even when it was split from Germany, no different to north and south korea
The right to free The somali regions under occupation by pro colonial nations shouldn't be considered irridentist since they're simply liberating occupied land

the concept of a Greater Somalia was first proposed by Ernest Bevin, and his intentions were not because he was sympathetic to the cause of Somalia but were based on pure realpolitik, power-driven self-interest, in which he sought the consolidation of the Somali-inhabited regions under British trusteeship as a means to protect the interests of the British Empire in Africa in the shifting post-WW2 world order led by the U.S., which saw traditional European colonization as outdated and untenable, as well as counterproductive in its war of ideas with the then-Soviet Union, and therefore forced the Europeans to give up their overt colonial possessions and get on board with the subtle, covert methods of neocolonialism, which was a covert rebranding of Western dominance through the creation of international organizations like the UN and the World Bank, where the rules were set to serve Western interests, along with NGOs, puppet leaders, economic aid, structural adjustment programs, orchestrating coups, and what have you, subtly perpetuating Western hegemony all the while ostensibly promoting independence, giving the newly 'independent' nation-states in Africa the false impression that Western imperialism was a thing of the past, and by the time Somalia emerged as a new nation, the idea of Greater Somalia, which was first cooked up as a neocolonial strategy, had already been embraced and transformed into a genuine aspiration by Somalis themselves
