  • We bought this awesome 1957 Chevy Truck a few months ago and finally have the chance to go get him drug out of the barn. Mr. Herring was nice enough to sell us “Ol Blue” so we can save him and put him back on the road. Ol Blue has been in the Herring family for about 63 years, his dad bought him used in 1960 and was used up until about 1976. The last time the truck ran was in 1980, we plan to get it running at least once before we pull the motor and transmission. This is one awesome old step side pickup truck. Ol Blue was born in 1957 in Atlanta Ga. He’s got a 235ci 6 cylinder and a 3 speed on the column, or 3 on the tree. Blue is a 3200 series step side long bed truck. It’s 6 lug with the small back glass. The trucks got a little rust but worth saving for sure. We plan to LS swap Ol Blue with an aluminum block LS1 I’ve got. Tick Performance Polluter camshaft and some ported 243 heads. Most likely a 4L80e with a stall converter. But there’s always the option to throw a 4 speed Muncie M20 in there as well. Hopefully I can find a Chevy Colorado rear end with the G80 locker and a 4.10 gear. Those slotted mags look so good I need to find a little bit narrower rearend and would like disk brakes. So the Colorado or GMC Canyon is a good option.

Putting the chain through that fence post tube to keep it from killing each other is the smartest thing I've ever seen.

This is great. I have had a 1957 GMC 100 for 15 years and have loved it. The GMC has the bullet front bumper and Cameo rear glass but you have a peach there! I've done lots of work on mine. It came with a 265 V8 but it now has a 1978 305 and THM350. I just moved the gas tank from the cab to behind the axle. I put Vintage A/C & heat in it years ago. You are going to have some real fun with this truck. I did the tandem brakes, kingpins and lots more over the years.... Mercedes seats, lots of refreshed wiring, Edlebrock carb and more. Take a look if you like. I call here Daphne so search that and see if anything I did might help you. I had to rebuild the Dana 45 and if you search that you'll see there weren't many 45's so I wonder if that's what you have? Your dash is different than mine as I don't have the Chevy V. I'll be watching every second! Sorry about the vent glass but they make a one piece glass kit and that's from Brothers I think? Best of Good Luck! Bobby

Thanks for sharing Bobby I appreciate you watching the videos. That sounds like you have one awesome ride! The gmc grill and bumper really is the better looking of the two I dig them! I love the story behind this old Chevy and his personality. I ended up picking up the vent window piece local and cheap just need glass. I’m hoping to start on the truck soon. Got a short bed for it and a late model trailblazer 10 bolt with disk brakes and a 4.10 gear.

I just got back from Lowes for some concrete and only got 2 offers. She draws attention. Keeping the paint "aged" is the best way. Mine was dark green when new but I have a light blue (like your blue) drivers door - I don't know why. Your doors close real nice but I have to hit mine kinda hard even after adjusting. The only history I have on mine is it was bought new in Belmont NC and was a city work truck for a little town called Mt. Holly NC until 1986. I found it in Charlotte for $3,300 and she was running fine even then. The guy before me painted it yellow and I did the white cab top to fight surface rust. I'm about to see if you get the 6 cyl running.

@bobeaseshop9389 I love the patina look, less stress. Less work just drive and enjoy. I figure if it’s got paint when I get it then good…. If not oh well haha

Maybe consider a modern car/truck frame with good breaks system and nice suspension

    • @323Fabrication

I thought about it, but I love the straight axle so I’ll keep it on the frame and just brace it and fix the steering
