@Mikayel Միքայել : A person brought to a hospital or medical facility by ambulance doesn't need parking, and there's nothing really wrong with charging a fee to visitors. It helps to pay for maintenance costs, f.e. Think about it in a thoroughly pragmatic sense. I could understand your gripe when it comes to immediate family members visiting another who's hospitalized, so parents, spouse and immediate children, but not for relatives and friends, for medical facilities have limited parking space and ALL patients have the same right to be able to receive visitors. Now, expound upon that; and, don't forget that parking at medical facilities isn't only, often isn't anyway, only for people visiting patients, for it's also used by facility workers. Space is limited, and time also is. EVERY patient has the same rights, or definitely should. Try to not think about it dreamfully, but, instead, in practical terms. Patients brought to the med. facilities don't need public parking, and neither do ambulances, the latter having their own reserved places to park, totally separate from the public areas. When I've seen the latter, they were VERY proximate to Emergency Rooms, or whatever they're call, and NO one else is allowed into these small areas. We really need to think about all of this pragmatically. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I don't know what that might be and, therefore, don't perceive a problem with parking at medical facilities. If a person can't afford the parking, then take a bus, taxi, or WALK. It's how I need to function, except when taken to hospital by ambulance, in which case, I'm normally not the person making the call for such service. It's happened.
We pay for fire services with taxes. We also have to pay the fire department for a variety of services if the need arrives (people calling the fire department on you for having a unlawful fire) you’ll have to pay
Literally happened to me.... hospital was about 1/2 a mile ems pressured me hard to take the ambulance against my wishes total cost.. over 400 for a 3 min ride without sirens (it wasn’t an emergency)
Let me get this straight. In Canada, a 3 day stay in the hospital is almost free. In the US, not only do we pay for the ambulance but 3 days in the hospital cost $28000.
Lol dude my girlfriend had a checkup at a hospital after getting a car crash which was not even her fault. 30 minute check up with 5 hours just laying on a bed for a total cost of 58,000. How do you pay for that??????? Good thing she had a lawyer that helped her fought her case.
@@Ilovepineapple I use Group Medical Service (GMS) in Saskatchewan and for $14.00 a month I am covered for any ambulance bill I would encounter. Living where I do, I face a transfer to a larger centre in a serious case. This normally would cost over $1000 given the two trips and the mileage involved.
we as Canadians keep bragging to the world about our free healthcare..while the reality is not as such. Ambulance fees, prescription drugs, medical insurance fees, not to mention that dental care is not covered, as a matter of fact we pay the highest fees for dental care compared to other developed countries. All of this added up to long waiting times and doctor shortages. It's a nightmare.
+Ashley Maria I agree, like they mentioned in this video, ambulance charges depend on a case-to-case basis and also it depends on where your live. Your ambulance ride was cheap probably cause you it was your first time and it was an absolute emergency. Some patients, due to the nature of their condition, frequently need to be rushed to emergency department. I know these market place videos are over exaggerating things. Believe me our healthcare system seem mediocre compared to countries like England, Sweden, and Germany. And, I think the biggest problem by far is long waiting times caused by understaffed hospitals and doctors shortages. I been to ER twice. I was there at night and both times there was only a single ER doctor taking care of 50+ patients. I remember waiting over 6hrs to be seen by a doctor.
Mit.07.AF True, for me it wasn't the much because I don't live that far away. It wasn't my first trip to the hospital. Most insurance will cover ambulance fees.
I'm low income, and I have free doctors, prescription drugs, 2 free dental visits per year, and reimbursement for most medical-related costs. Medical coverage is tier based here, AFAICT.
+LittleMaliceManny if you're low income you qualify for trillium/obd, and thus you get all that paid out of our tax dollars. Note that I'm not complaining, i do well so I'm happy to pay a little extra tax to help low income families who need the help.
Our US municipal ambulance service is tax funded. I have never had to use our canadian township ambulance, but if they’re saying on here that it’s $45, that’s not bad.
This needs to be talked about in parliament. I remember how frustrated my sister was when a year ago she needed an ambulance and it costed her over a 1,000 dollars. Imagine getting a $1,500 bill from the fire department after your house nearly burns down. This is absolutely atrocious, a smack to the face of hurting Canadians.
The joke is during the overdose crisis I never seen anyone who overdoses get told they had to Pay I used to be told it was 150 for an ambulance ride to the hospital.. 4 years ago to surrey memorial
wwemario12345 I m surpassed.. I thought Canada' health system is one of the best. In India, we have worst health system in the world probably but ambulance is free.
I agree with the $45 charge in Ontario, but no higher than that. I work in health care and I believe that many of my patients who attend hospital for minor illness would use the ambulance as a taxi service to the hospital if it was free. Many do not drive and live on social assistance.
In my state in Australia ambulance service is free. When people call for an ambulance, those with minor ailments get referred to a community health line. Some get treated by paramedics at home or get taken to their local doctor instead of to a hospital if it's warranted.
Coover in the USA Oregon Portland my brother was taken to the hospital in Uber then was transferred to an other hospital and the cost was at least 1000+ and they took 2 hours to arrive ,the hospital was great and in about a week he recovered btw he had Appendicitis
+rodolo 1. *Argie DEFAULTED on their currency, so you parasites aren't even paying* for 100% of your healthcare or ANY other of your govt systems. 2. Your PRIVATE hospitals are decent, but the PUBLIC sector ("free") is as broken as the rest of LatAmer nations:
I live in the US. I once worked with a woman that had a heart condition. She told us if she collapsed at work not to call an ambulance. Apparently it happened before and her insurance refused to cover it.
25 years ago here in Australia we had similar issues with cost of ambulances and then the government made it mandatory to pay a $2 weekly fee for the cost to help ambulance service and now everyone is covered no bills!. This is done through the power bills as everyone has to have power, pay the small fee and everyone is covered.
StyxNyx1 try talking with health professionals and local members of congress. Start a Facebook group and let people know there are options in which the government should look at. Everyone needs power and I honestly don’t notice the small ambo fees as I know if anything happens to me and family I’m covered. Thanks
Uh, no. There is no "market" for ambulances. Government restricts how many paramedics, ambulances, and ambulance companies exist through regulation. Government also makes the process of starting an ambulance company needlessly arduous and difficult, in order to help the existing players keep competition out. If there were a market in ambulances, the costs would decline drastically. You need to research what capitalism is.
toobadsosad83 kinda, capitalism is paying for your stuff, so jea going into debth is capitalism on one side, as you have to pay, but the fees and prices on the other hand arent truely capitalist, as if you wont be searching online, which ambulance is cheapest while your kid is lying on the ground with a bullet in the leg.
I'd like to thank Canada and the CBC for some amazing investigative reporting on Marketplace, at this point in the USA we have no nationally aired program that does such hard hitting reporting about consumer affairs, some local TV stations across the country which are commercial, do some small consumer affairs report segments, but they also are affected by advertisers which hampers their ability to do truly honest reporting and don't have the resources of a large organization like the CBC.
@@yaboimax6356 I agree with you, but when it comes to consumer interest stories they can actually do a decent job, when it comes to other things not so much. Especially their own leaders and gov't, agreed 1000%.
gustavo lopez I don’t care about ambulance fees but flight for life should be free because u don’t get to make that decision, the flight for life decisions was made by Ambulance medical staff not the patient
When something is free it is often not respected. I live in the UK and I personally knew some one who called an ambulance for a sunburn. And another who took her child with a sprained arm in an ambulance . Unfortunately ambulances can get treated like taxis. But I do think it should be a flat, affordable rate...just one that discourages abuse. And then people’s taxes should be raised to cover the shortfall.
Wade Wright is very good the problem ppl used to abused calling the ambulance x nothing we have all free x hospital and everthing some people I saw ppl calling the ambulance x nothing they abused the system
Thanks God Ambulance, Doctors and Hospitals are for free in Denmark, i can call as many time i whant, and i can go and drive as many time as i wish it do not cost me 1 penny, we all pay Tax in Denmark, and the Tax cover this kind of things, some need to use it offen some never use it, but dossentt matter if you use it alot or a littel it's still for free for enyone there use it in Denmark.
UN have for many years nominated Denmark as the happiest nation on the planet regardless of their highest tax rate, one of their arguments is that nobody worries if they are able to pay their hospital bill the day they get sick, as it is already been paid for through the taxes.
My first ever hospital stay started at a med center which sent me via ambulance to hospital. 5 mile ride and a $1200.00 bill for the ride... I am in US.
Oh... I had pneumonia... Not a heart attack or anything requiring life saving care during the ride. Update: Looking back on the bill, my ambulance ride was actually $1875.00, the $1200.00 is what I owed after insurance paid $675.00. I understand these services aren't free, but neither should they take gross advantage of the ill.
Ray R my brother went in a car crash with 3 friends and one of then had to go in a helcopter and he ended dying because it took like 3 hours and his mom had to pay like 8000
It blows my mind when I see what Americans have to pay for health care. My niece married very well off, good thing she did. Certain illnesses can cost u thousands of $'s. Medications they can run a couple of grand also. Luckily they can afford to pay these prices but what about those that cannot. What happens to them? Supposed to be the greatest nation yet has no free health care system. I guess many, many people do not go to a hospital or dr., they cannot afford to and I am positive a lot of people have died due to lack of money.
+Chloe wilson. Well, welcome to the land of the free... What a joke. I avoid and haven't been to a doctor in several years because of the costs, yet I pay $100 from my paycheck (and my employer pays around $100 also) each week for premiums!! $200 per week to Blue Cross and still, with my copays and percentage of medical bills due you may as well say I have no insurance,. Instead, I help to make the insurance company wealthy. It is nothing short of legalized racketeering for those who work in the USA.
It is but not when you have a terminally I'll family member to care for. Bills on bills. It's hard either way. People shouldn't be paying more than 50$ insured or not for an ambulance. It's ridiculous how governments and businesses are allowed to rob people like this
Well we need to have a beef with our insurance then and stand up for our rights, we pay them and they make profit if something doesn’t happen so if something does they need to cover us
Agree with you. Actually all over Europe you don't have to pay ANYTHING because it's covered by taxes. In (North) America they pay (lower) taxes, but they get nothing more than EXTRA-BILLS! Despite the fact that Italy is a s*itty Country for many things, you cannot blame Italian public healthcare. The exception is some part of the south...
If I need a ambulance i'll call uber they have a much quicker response time nearly 5 minutes if not more difference and I don't need to call so I save more time.
The reason a patient needs to be transferred to another hospital is because the hospital they are at is cannot provide sufficient care. Taxes are paid to the government to provide medical care to Canadians. If that hospital cannot provide sufficient care, it is up to the government to provide that care, regardless of cost. Therefore, if a patient needs to be transferred to another hospital to be given sufficient care, that needs to be provided at no cost. I think this is more a problem of interpretation of the legislation. Maybe our government needs to read their own legislation closer!
Ever taken a taxi? In most places, 5 miles costs at minimum, $25 dollars. Thats without a medical practitioner available. Take an Uber for the same trip, oh that's just $45 to $80 dollars depending on the day of the week or time of day.
Hiw can Canada and the US get away with this? In the UK anything medical related with ambulances and hospital treatment is free.Youd think when the US spends around 500 billion on millitary they could use some of that for medical issues.
+Henning Bjornessen At least we don't hold the denstest at gunpoint and demand to be at the front of the que. And yes there may be waiting times, but that's because we are considerate and accept that others need attention too, after all that's the whole point in a waiting time. The NHS has a better quality service in all anyway and you don't have to pay a single penny, not one (for the potentially huge bill you could rack up)(excluding tax ect) meanwhile if you needed mountian rescue or an air ambulance and a couple of ambulance trips, coupled with medicines, you'd need to sell your house in 'MURICA'!!!! YEE HAA. So there you go.
+Stan Kleppetvsfriend I can't be arsed arguing on YT, but for your information I'm currently living in a house that's £555,000 which has a front and rear garden. we also have a holiday cottage with a quarter acre of grounds. only some reside in council housing. Go and spend your day and argue with another person you don't know.
The BlueBearDuck I live in the United States, and yes our millitary is big, but the real reason is how long politicians have been arguing about how to n pay that money, rather then how insurance companies demand big discounts. that then causes hospitals to inflate the prices so much so insurance companies can then make it reasonable. there's an Adam ruins everything on it, you'll find it by looking it up
+Anna Mae Alexander In SOME parts of the US the county paid paramedics send you a bill when you did not call and refused care from them. They charge you because you live in another county.
+LovePeaceAntiFanatic america is way worse they forced me into an ambulance and charged my mom 5000 dollars for the ride and lke 8000 dollars for cat scan without any signature of my mom or mine.
+LovePeaceAntiFanatic As a Moroccan we pay high taxes for no reason !!! lol firefighters have to be payed and ambulances too also hospitals !! and at the end you get shity service and in most cases ambulance appear after patient dies !!
Armando Sanchez But think about Canada's economy, with the middle east stealing all the oil sales, and all the people being laid off and businesses going out of business because of rental costs for the buildings and stuff like that.
When i drove taxi it was common to have people call us for medical emergencies rather than call for an ambulance. Part of the reason was because when they centrally dispatch, people thought it was easier & faster to call a local taxi because they would get there faster due to having a better knowledge of the local roads , etc. They also believed that if they said it was a medical emergency they thought it would get them the first availible taxi, but in some places it doesn't. I went to a senior's house for a medical once (she had frequent falls), the ambulance office/dispatch/hall was literally 7 doors down, but because she fell so often & even had the call alert necklace, they REFUSED to answer her calls for help! It took 3 of us to get her off her floor & we got in touch with her family, her church & the mayor's office and managed to get her situation fixed. The ambulance people were slammed by the mayor & council and almost lost their contract over it.
@@furtim1 I went into anaphylaxis during a drs appt and was taken by ambulance across the street from one campus to the er on another...$1600 in the usa... luckily my insurance paid most of it
I’am from Minnesota in the United States and I’ve both had to call an ambulance and pay the $2000.00 fee as well as have taken my EMS Course and been apart of the crew being paid $13.00/Hour to save lives. It’s an incredibly broken system.
I live in the US, and I have told all the people I live with to NEVER call me an ambulance. Unfortunately, the US also has that 'Good Samaratin' law...
well not to compare humans to pizza, but if my pizza doesn't arrive at my house "acceptable". in this case the patient being "alive", i don't take the pizza, and i don't give them money
its not free health care its affordable healthcare... Half my paycheck goes to taxes and on whats left im taxed 25% on everything i buy and after all that the healthcare system still struggles keeping costs low enough to be sustainable. With the massive amount of people retiring soon combined with longer life expectancy the system will collapse soon.
I was sick and had a fever once. At 2 or 3am I was hallucinating and I was trying to wake my girlfriend up who was lying beside me but I couldn't get words out.. She eventually woke up and felt me, I was REALLY hot to touch but she was scared to call 911 because she didn't know what we would have to pay So she called her grandma to ask her what to do, then she called my mom who drove an hour to our place.. It took ice packs and lots of water but I cooled off, it was really scary.. I should have gone to the hospital that night but the uncertainty on the ambulance fee put doubt in my girlfriends mind on if she should call or not... If I was able to think clearly I would have told her to call 911 for sure, but I couldn't talk so I couldnt tell her that I was not ok Idiots are ruining our healthcare system.. The people who call 911 for non emergencies are the same people who clog the emergency rooms because they have a headahe, or because their kid is sick.. Go to a clinic in the morning!! 6 hour waits in emergency rooms from these idiot people.. Is it immigrants who don't know an emergency room isn't a replacement for a family doctor? I don't get it My impression is that this ambulance fee was meant as a deterrent, to make sure people who call for an ambulance are actually in an emergency.. In my experience though what the fee does is put doubt in a persons mind right before they call 911.. Someone who 100% should call 911 is only 90% sure, or if they're really poor maybe 50% sure.. that's not productive for the health of people
If anybody has any type of problem that needs to be taken care of a doctor then anyone including people with headaches can go to an emergency room just not dial 911 unless it's a real emergency like someone bleeding to death. I had to take my mom to the hospital because of a bad headache thank god I did cause it was a dangerous thing they had to put medications thru her veins..1 week later I had to rush to the hospital cuase she was/was almost having a heart attack. So don't come saying to not go to an emergency center if u have something simple...WHY? Cause small things can cause big things.
Dee Jay so? If the emergency room can handle it and they wanna pay for the bill or are covered who are you to say where they should go? It would be the hospitals fault for not giving priority to what needs to be given priority. Idk how it works where u live but here where I live hospitals aren't slow unless u have something really easy in a busy day
Claroboy911 Where I live, and where lots of people live, the emergency room wait is hours. I've waited 6 hours to see a doctor before, and that's not unusual here (B.C.)
@@robertthompson5352 no, but at least, solidarity kicks in. But feel free if you prefer the wild west and social Darwinism. Survival of the fattest cat.
In Ontario, people do use it as a taxi. People call get brought to the hospital then walk out and head to there friends house. the Nurses at the London hospital are completely shocked by it. In a lot of cases if a person who took an ambulance to the hospital and has no one to pick them up, the hospital pays for a cab! One nurse I spoke with used to work in the USA and claims in most cases their medical ways are far superior to ours.
If she would setup a go fund me page (for the ambulance rides for Sarah Buss daughter, not sure how to spell her name) I would gladly help, and share for more help!!!!!
Bit of a difference in training and equipment between India and developed countries. But, you're right-health care should be free no matter what country your in. I can understand places like Papua New Guinea, a country where some police stations have such a low budget, they ask for fuel money before coming to you. But the US is doing no favours to the average American when it comes to health care access.
I live in Florida and am still paying off an $800 ambulance bill. The doctor gave my 2 year old daughter the wrong medication in the breathing machine and then freaked out and called an ambulance. She was ok but the EMT said there really was no need for the ambulance after she was taken. He’s the one who also informed me that the doctor should not have given that medication to her. And It’s crazy to have to pay that much when we have pretty good insurance through my husband’s job.
KiloByte69 Oh, shut up. At least people who can't afford the ambulances are still getting the care they deserve. Yeah, it's paid by taxes, but so what? Would you rather pay a smaller tax or pay an ambulance out of pocket?
Jorge Padua First of all, everyone who needs an ambulance gets one, you dimwit. And like any taxpayer funded service it gets abused by lazy deadbeats who don't have a medical emergency. Furthermore, I'd rather pay for the services that I need. Socializing healthcare is forces the healthy to subsidize the costs generated by everyone else, including people who don't take good care of themselves. So no, it wouldn't be "smaller".
In the US, I know someone who was denied an insurance claim for an ambulance ride because it was not preapproved. Not sure how or when that was supposed to get preapproved.
I am appalled and disgusted at the fact that the Canadian Government has outrageous ambulance fees. I am also appalled and disgusted that if a Canadian needs emergency care they need to pay for ambulance fees. I believe that healthcare is a right that everyone should have access too and that includes emergency services. Healthcare should not be used as a tool to make money off of vulnerable people in their time of need. Also the conversation with the Executive Director, Debra, is very insincere and a waste of time as she clearly does not seem.... I will actually say is not concerned with the ambulance fees. Basically, all she says is oh well, that's the way it is, which is disgusting. I can make the statement that it is "UnCanadian" of her, however it goes beyond being "UnCanadian" it is just having basic human dignity and this applies to all politicians and people in power to make the decision to eliminate the cost of ambulance fees. I was also in shock hearing the answer from Debra that there is no interest in changing ambulance fees. It causes me to shake my head and wonder about the people who make these types of decisions.
Same with America. I was less than 8 hours from dying. My liver and kidneys were failing and had to be transferred to a different hospital. It was a 25 minute ride and it was 2,200 dollars. The hospital bill in all was $250,000. Our insurance pay for most of it though
That's expensive, worth it to live, but still. Does a person need to make the choice, Get gouged in the bank and go to the hospital and spend a long time paying back the bills or risk/play Russian roulette with their life or their child's, family members or anyone else's life?
One more thing... This woman is a good reporter. She gets to the truth and she knows how to confront someone's bullcrap. This is true journalism, celebrity news Americans are so enamored with
My grand daughter has the same condition and my daughter went threw the exact situation and the bills piled up fast and on a fixed income cuz both parents had to stay home and give her 24 -7 care plenty of times they had to get someone to drive them all hours of the day or night to emergency to avoid the bills now she passed away 1 month ago but the bills are still haunting them as well as other costs
John Pirie that is so sad. You should do a gofundme page for them. Some ppl dont give because of so many scamers but some ppl do. And at this point I bet even $50 would be appreciated by them
in Argentina the ambulances are cover by the state, unless you have a private emergency companie coverage, last year a friend crash his face in a bike accident, public hospital cover the titanium prostesis and reconstructive surgery, dont cost anything. sometimes i wonder what some people call "Third world"

You pay less taxes dumbass... It's all ads ups! I'm a full-time student and a part-time bank employee and I still pay 20% in income tax. Imagine a full-time worker with kids.
My point is it all ads up... My last paycheck I payed 28.9% of tax due to working overtime and my next paycheck I'm probably going to be taxed even more due to my quarterly bonus and working full hours (37.5) during my winter break. in the states the it's as low as 5%
Hörður Heimisson unfortunately when your spouse dies, you take on their debt. At least in the U.S. that is. I’m not 100% sure but I believe your children take on the debt too, but I think I’m 100% wrong. So don’t quote me.

He could not. So he could not bury his mother's urn. So he has it on his bookshelf today and he is just fine with that. God bless.
+optimusmikey Have you ever needed to use an Ambulance? Because I have. Me, my dad and my grandpa have all had to call out an ambulance on more than one occasion for each of us. With all 3 of us, it is serious stuff in talking about. But none of us would be here if we didn't have the ambulance service. I am glad it comes out of taxes. I think nearly everyone who says it should be people's own responsibilities to pay for medical fees (from start to finish) have never needed to use the service. I honestly don't know where this family would be if we didn't have free healthcare. We are looked after so well in this country with regards to healthcare. Yes, there are flaws. But there always will be in any system, free or not.
***** I do pay for my medical bills. I pay for them every time I pay my taxes to the Government. We even have to pay for our medicines at chemists. My taxes also help to pay for the not so well-off so no one in this county goes without any medical help.
I was a visitor to Canada when I felt unwell. My host took me to a clinic which I had to pay for. I collapsed whilst I was with the doctor, an ambulance was summoned but I have been told my host had to go through my pockets to find a credit card. The cost was taken from my card BEFORE I was transported (unconscious) to the local hospital. My insurance co. wouldn't pay, but that does not surprise me.
Frankly, I think the best option is for the hospital to take into account the income of the family. This also includes looking at age, how many times this particular person has traveled by ambulance to the hospital, as well as how critical an emergency was. Taking all this into account, ambulance fees should be adjusted accordingly. I understand that money is needed to provide services like this, but charges should only apply to those who are able to pay to help provide ambulance service to those who may not be able to afford it
Wow, I thought Canada had lower costs in healthcare. In Finland ambulance costs 25€ for the patient. Most of the costs are covered by the Social Insurance Institution. If you call ambulance and they determine that you don't need treatment, it doesn't cost anything. Transfers between hospitals are paid by sending unit, not the patient.
Hamzah Rassul it’s the same in canada. this video is only about ambulance fee’s which are actually still fairly cheap. It’s only $45 here in ontario where i live and where most canadians live. i feel bad for the other provinces but even compared to america it’s cheap. nonetheless your point about not paying in the hospital is the same as here.
Hamzah Rassul The ambulance is free. But how long does it take for it to come? I have a friend who lost his eye because the envelope in the suburbs ofLondon arrived two hours after his call
142$ in Nova Scotia? Bullshit. MSI had no problem charging just under 600$ for the last ambulance ride my daughter took when she passed away. I didn't feel a bit guilty tearing that bill up either. If NS can afford to make ambulances free (within the last few months, low income only I think) than every other province should be able to handle it, if only for the fixed and low income families and individuals.
Jesiah Mac Fuck yeah, its free here :D But hell no, people don't take ambulances as free taxis, if u call ambulance to be a taxi, you break law and that if something WILL be HUGE ticket.
No emergency services should cost anything, even in the US. It broke my heart and made me cry to learn this Mom's daughter ended up dying. I'm so sorry.
this is ridiculous. the purpose of having a universal health care is to help people. You cant just charge people for needing help. there needs to be a change!
Yes it does! i was shocked with the thousands of dollars those two people had to pay,. I hope in the very close future its changed and quickly. This has to stop NOW.
We do not have Universal Health Care, and never have. We have Universal ACCESS to emergency health care. In many provinces, medications are not covered, nor are any preventative treatments. You break a leg, you get a cast, but not physiotherapy. Our healthcare system is not set up to make people healthy, but to generate money for pharmaceutical companies by treating illness instead of preventing it.
You're right, but at least this is better to have access. I forgot that sometimes some people dont have personal health care coverage, other than the provincial one that we all have. I am personally lucky to have a personal health coverage from my job that practically covers most things. I have used the EMS before, and only had to pay 5 dollars- the rest my own health insurance took care of the rest.
OMG...Canadian pay such low prices on their medical care. Even for ambulance that is still cheap compare to USA. If they have to pay what we pay here in the state ranging from $1000 up per ride then they should feel lucky still cheap service there.
In CALIFORNIA if you call the fire department to many times and they don't dem it necessary you will get a bill also if you get your self in a rescue situation that you created you will also get a bill from the CHP.
Canada also has ‘free’ hospital bills and the ambulance you can get 2 free a year with insurance. Not enough for the ppl in the film something needs to be done for thwm
CookieSkillz, Im really sorry to say this, but you must be so brainwashed to believe that something is for free. I have a news for you. Nothing in this world is for free. I mean NOTHING, not even hospital bills.
So we get charged for an ambulance ride due to medical emergency, but criminals get free transportation to jail?
How is that even...
Generally criminals on their way to jail don't have a lot of money.

idk about canada. but in the US they bill you.
@reverse thrust wtf?? Really !? That's unbelievable. ...

Let me get this if healthcare is "free" in Canada shouldn't the ambulance and the parking be a part of the "free" package???
Transportation =/= healthcare
Ambulances are pretty cheap compared to the states
@Mikayel
You're so correct. Private insurance shouldn't be the alternative. Should be an election CAN 2o19 issue.
Ambulances are transportation, not health care. Private insurance for just ambulance coverage is cheap. Parking is not health care either.
15:47 "You don't pay for the fire department to come put your fire out?" DONT GIVE THEM ANYMORE IDEAS, MAN!!!!

we as Canadians keep bragging to the world about our free healthcare..while the reality is not as such. Ambulance fees, prescription drugs, medical insurance fees, not to mention that dental care is not covered, as a matter of fact we pay the highest fees for dental care compared to other developed countries.
All of this added up to long waiting times and doctor shortages. It's a nightmare.
I don't know what your talking about I had to call an ambulance it cost 15.00 all my medication is free.

That's a great idea! Wish the US would adopt that idea.

I should have gone to the hospital that night but the uncertainty on the ambulance fee put doubt in my girlfriends mind on if she should call or not...
If I was able to think clearly I would have told her to call 911 for sure, but I couldn't talk so I couldnt tell her that I was not ok
Idiots are ruining our healthcare system..
I don't get it
My impression is that this ambulance fee was meant as a deterrent, to make sure people who call for an ambulance are actually in an emergency..
Claroboy911 A lot of people go to the emergency room for things that a walk in clinic can handle..
Dee Jay oh okay
No free ride XD sounds like they never been to the UK.
haloharry97 socialized medicine is NOT free:
@@robertthompson5352 no, but at least, solidarity kicks in. But feel free if you prefer the wild west and social Darwinism. Survival of the fattest cat.
Here in the US (at least where I live), a single ambulance ride can cost you $2000. It just shows how screwed up the situation is in the US as well.
Richard Downer she’s dead
THATS NOT THE POINT. people are getting robbed.
Even in India its totally free.Just call 102.
Ashutosh Yadav Well. That speaks stunning volumes. Oh Canada.
*brags about India*
Buddy its 108 not 102 and covers only 22 states in India and not all 29. I doubt the penetration of this service to villages.
Yeah and you have to ride in a cart with the chickens who peck at your feet the whole way!
10:16 That bill should say Suprise, not "Sunrise".
In the UK, ambulances are free everywhere.
alistair6101 And violated during weekends by Drunk buffoons.... UK should introduce a massive fine if you use the Ambulance for drunken incidences.
alistair6101
That's another liberal myth, there's no such thing as free healthcare.
KiloByte69 Oh, shut up. At least people who can't afford the ambulances are still getting the care they deserve. Yeah, it's paid by taxes, but so what? Would you rather pay a smaller tax or pay an ambulance out of pocket?
Jorge Padua
First of all, everyone who needs an ambulance gets one, you dimwit.
KiloByte69 That is true but there is a think called cheaper healthcare and that's called universal healthcare.
Does a person need to make the choice, Get gouged in the bank and go to the hospital and spend a long time paying back the bills or risk/play Russian roulette with their life or their child's, family members or anyone else's life?
most of it? how much did you have to pay?
Csr Hrm 6,500 dollars
AtoMiC M0nkies ohhhhh, that's a lot, thank God you could afford that
"Your payment would be appreciated."
I'm sure it would.
And at this point I bet even $50 would be appreciated by them
In the UK you can call 999 ambulance for FREE
yes and no. if you call on a non emergency you might get charge for the call out. but yea the uk has a better health system then the usa.
North America
+stephen mears you get charged £5,000 if it crashes for a false one
in Argentina the ambulances are cover by the state, unless you have a private emergency companie coverage, last year a friend crash his face in a bike accident, public hospital cover the titanium prostesis and reconstructive surgery, dont cost anything.
sometimes i wonder what some people call "Third world"
+rod 1. Argie DEFAULTED on their currency, so you parasites aren't even paying for 100% of your healthcare or ANY other of your govt systems.
2. Your PRIVATE hospitals are decent, but the PUBLIC sector ("free") is as broken as the rest of LatAmer nations:
In N Ireland there is no charges for an ambulance
45$ thank god for ontario
God bless canada but i think the rest of the country should be more like us
Ha, complaining about the ambulance bill. Right now I'm $6,000 in debt for a 3 day stay in the hospital. A few years back I broke my shoulder, saw the doctor for 5 minutes, got a single xray, a sling and 2 weeks of weak painkillers, $1500.
$350 Canadian is only ~$250 US
You pay less taxes dumbass... It's all ads ups! I'm a full-time student and a part-time bank employee and I still pay 20% in income tax. Imagine a full-time worker with kids.
My point is it all ads up... My last paycheck I payed 28.9% of tax due to working overtime and my next paycheck I'm probably going to be taxed even more due to my quarterly bonus and working full hours (37.5) during my winter break. in the states the it's as low as 5%
I got 14k bill for a one and a half day stay and they didn't even figure out was wrong with me.
Ambulance ride here in Albany Oregon, it's $1,200.00 or more.
Ok, so it's HER bill. She's dead so you have to drop the bill.
+Hörður Heimisson i dont think thats how it works
Hörður Heimisson I wonder how headache he had hospital bill and the funeral or dead bill
Hörður Heimisson unfortunately when your spouse dies, you take on their debt. At least in the U.S. that is. I’m not 100% sure but I believe your children take on the debt too, but I think I’m 100% wrong. So don’t quote me.
Nope, Your only responsible for your spouse's bills and your children's bills that are under 18 in the U.S.A. Trust me, my ex's mother died and he had just turned 18. Hospital TRIED to say he was responsible as her son for her bills. I told him no way. I called a lawyer because those shisters were pressuring him. The only thing he did pay for was to cremate her. Her sister had died two mos before so cemetery tried to say he had to pay his mom's sister's burial bill his poor mom was still making payments on her sister's burial when she herself died. He could not. So he could not bury his mother's urn. So he has it on his bookshelf today and he is just fine with that. God bless.
can you file a divorce to avoid that bill?
This is why I'm glad I live in the UK. Good old NHS.
We pay via taxes.
Same. And yet people STILL bloody complain.
+Michelle .H I'm glad I live in the US where it's my responsibility to pay for my medical bills
+optimusmikey And poor people struggle to pay medical bills and often are scared to see the doctor for financial reasons
*****
I do pay for my medical bills. I pay for them every time I pay my taxes to the Government. We even have to pay for our medicines at chemists. My taxes also help to pay for the not so well-off so no one in this county goes without any medical help.
I live in Norway. It costs me nothing, it should not cost anything
Victim: Help! I was stabbed!
Ambulance: u got that gas money?
in our county in pennsylvania if you make a yearly donation to the rescue squad you don't get charged
Yep. Your not able to make the medical decision. So someone else can do it for you since you were unable to respond
wtf $500??
I got a bill one time for $45 and I thought that was ridiculous
I am soo glad i live in the UK
Free health service
Recently broke my hand but didnt have to pay a single penny
Hamzah Rassul it’s the same in canada. this video is only about ambulance fee’s which are actually still fairly cheap. It’s only $45 here in ontario where i live and where most canadians live. i feel bad for the other provinces but even compared to america it’s cheap. nonetheless your point about not paying in the hospital is the same as here.
@@Thedarthjosh1 ok, we have no ambulance fees.
But i feel sorry for some americans who have to pay more than $600 for a brake
We have employment insurance through that we can pay
Hamzah Rassul The ambulance is free. But how long does it take for it to come? I have a friend who lost his eye because the envelope in the suburbs ofLondon arrived two hours after his call
Australia 🇦🇺 Too
142$ in Nova Scotia?
Jesiah Mac Sorry to hear about your loss. Screw these bastards with their bills during situations like that.
Jesiah Mac You should only pay if you call for non emergency situations, low income or not. You get billed for losing your child! NICE!
Jesiah Mac Fuck yeah, its free here :D
But hell no, people don't take ambulances as free taxis, if u call ambulance to be a taxi, you break law and that if something WILL be HUGE ticket.
No emergency services should cost anything, even in the US. It broke my heart and made me cry to learn this Mom's daughter ended up dying. I'm so sorry.
That would be nice, but EMTs and doctors don't work for free, nor should they.
In my car accident it was over 1,000 dollars
Joe Sindicic Gas
wow way to drop that bomb shell at 17:54.....
Uncletaco supreme and no emotion watching the poor girl cry
Here in australia we can pay an annual fee for a family of $92 and $46 for a single person which covers air and road ambulance.
this is ridiculous. the purpose of having a universal health care is to help people.
I have used the EMS before, and only had to pay 5 dollars- the rest my own health insurance took care of the rest.
but there still needs to be changes to our system.
See my top comment. Not universal care.
OMG...Canadian pay such low prices on their medical care. Even for ambulance that is still cheap compare to USA. If they have to pay what we pay here in the state ranging from $1000 up per ride then they should feel lucky still cheap service there.
Mine is 0 but keep saying "usa" like its all over...
Christine Heath y
In us you have 2 time income and you are free to chose....
Here is take it or leave it....!!!!
@@mariomehr tell us whats free? this is the most corrupt country on the earth. give me a break
Canadians pay more in taxes then Americans! nothing is free!
In CALIFORNIA if you call the fire department to many times and they don't dem it necessary you will get a bill also if you get your self in a rescue situation that you created you will also get a bill from the CHP.
Move to Norway, hospital bills are free
CookieSkillz not kiddin'?
Canada also has ‘free’ hospital bills and the ambulance you can get 2 free a year with insurance. Not enough for the ppl in the film something needs to be done for thwm
CookieSkillz, Im really sorry to say this, but you must be so brainwashed to believe that something is for free. I have a news for you. Nothing in this world is for free. I mean NOTHING, not even hospital bills.
All bills can be received for free
Its $45.00 in Ontario
