We met Eddie at a show in the parking lot in Philadelphia in 2005, he was riding around on a mountain bike kind of in disguise, but not really in disguise if that makes any sense. He stopped at our tailgate party and asked us for a beer, chatted for a minute and told us enjoy the show and thanks for coming. I think we were all in shock for about a month!
eddie is a great guy. The producer said "Betterman" would be a hit, and Vedder was mad and didn't want to put it on the album because he didn't want to be the rockstar on drugs and wrecked like everyone else. And Ive lived in philly, get the hell out of philly it is a shithole and everyone treats you like shti.
So what if he does? I would. Probably one of the greatest moments of his life. I met Mike McCready before their first show at Wrigley in 2013, and it's definitely one of the highlights of my life. I tell PJ fans about it all the time, because he was such a nice guy and it's cool to hear about the people you admire actually being good people.
I took a summer class in college called "History of Live Music". A concert promoter came and spoke to the class and talked about putting on shows and working with artists, then took some questions. Somebody asked which artists were the biggest jerks he'd ever worked with. He said he was not going to say who the biggest jerks are, but he'd say who the coolest were. He said all the guys in Pearl Jam are the nicest, most down-to-earth people, and treat their crew really great. He said most of the artists, even the friendlier ones have times scheduled for them to eat alone and areas restricted where no one else can be, even crew. But not Pearl Jam. He said they hang around with the whole crew and everybody from the venue backstage, and that they're very "normal", you'd never know they are rich rockstars. My buddy and I that were taking the class together went up and thanked him after class for telling the PJ stories and let him know we were huge fans and had been to a few PJ shows (many more since). Then my buddy said, "Seriously, is there anyone who's just a huge asshole?" And the guy sorta looks around to make sure no one else could hear and says, "I love the Eagles' music, but Don Henley is the biggest fuckin cocksucker I've ever met. Fuck that guy. But don't tell anyone or he'll sue us all. Joe Walsh is cool though." 😂😂😂
Pearl Jam is a great band. I scheduled my vacation when the radio said PJ was going to open for Tom Petty and the heartbreakers, so I got to see them play together a couple songs, and PJ made sure they opened for Petty because Petty was the main event.
