    OMGosh, that poor mother, on so many levels. I felt so bad for the older little girl 'cause she just needed her mother's comfort, but the mother had her hands full with the baby. Seeing Dr. Paul pick the little girl up and just hold her in his arms to comfort her was so touching.

    Mums can never take a sick day. Even when sick, she cares for everyone around her and puts their needs before her own. Really feel for her not having two laps. Must be so hard when both kids are so sick but you can only hold one at a time. Dr Paul was so lovely to pick the little girl up and comfort her. I bet her mum appreciated that too. My 10 month old niece has just been diagnosed with RSV and her older sister had it about 3 years ago when she was 7 months old. It’s a horrible illness and you feel a bit helpless because you wish you could just wave a magic wand and make it all better for them. Hope this mama has plenty of support at home ❤️

    My son had RSV when he was 14 months old and he had to be hospitalized for 3 days. The ambulance ride to the children’s hospital from our rural area (1 hr) was so scary he had a blueness to him. His oxygen was at 84-86. But kids heal and recover and he’s 5 now.

      As a former NICU mama, if you have a chance to go love on those babies, please do. I was fortunate enough to live 1hr from the NICU so I was able to drive every day, but saw so many little ones who's parents were too far away or had other children to take care of. NICU nurses, doctors and volunteers are so special.

    I'm dealing with a chest infection at the moment, it's been a couple of years since I had one, but I'm watching this and my heart goes out to these children and their mum. Respiratory infections are extremely hard to cope with, and are very slow to recover from. I'm a grown man and this viral infection knocks me for six, so these little children are suffering terribly here. Their body will fight the infection and will beat it, but it does seem like it takes forever. These infections also sap your energy levels, so plenty of rest is important. Their poor mother is also suffering having to deal with this, but her babies will recover. ❤

      Adults don't usually get RSV unless they are elderly or have some other chronic medical condition. In us it's really just a bad chest cold. Which can totally suck! My dad recently ended up with pneumonia after a bad cold. He gave it to my mom too and she also said it was worse than when she had Covid.

    • @Toadette-
      @Toadette- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had COVID in March of last year, it was mild; well, compared to this suspected RSV. RSV was 1000 times worse. An older lady I know had it, at the same time as me, and it took her four weeks (atleast) to recover. Ever since having it, I've had 4 colds, and am now paranoid about getting RSV again. It's brutal.

    In nursing school, back in the olden days, 1984, we were taught PPD, postural percussion and drainage. I taught this to many parents. I did this for my children and even for my husband although that involved couch pillows. I don't know why it's no longer done. I gave them an expectoran, big glass of whatever they would drink. After about 30 min, the shower getting the bathroom steamy, I gave them a bath. During the bath we sang as loud as they could.(no neighbors) we would sing and as they took breath deep enough to really belt out 3 blind mice etc, they would cough up a lot. After the steamy concert, PJs on, I sat on the bed with a kid over a pillow, butt up & head down & started drumming. My singing "Babaloo" always made them laugh, more coughing. We sang more, they liked the sound like singing into a fan. With cupped hands, I would pat firmly and quickly, alternating hands. The purpose being to cause vibration that helps shake loose phlegm. I'm you know about this doc, I don't know if anyone else would. Anyway, it helped my kids a lot. The bath feels good because you just feel sweaty & snotty, getting up as much as possible let them get good deep sleep. I didn't give cough suppressant or decongestant because I wanted them to have the mucous. As you know, with fever & some dehydration 9the phlegm gets thick. They work so hard to get it up they are exhausted just from coughing.
    😉And in conclusion to this chapter, why is no longer done? Nurses now have no idea what PPD is.

    • @sheri4673
      @sheri4673 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand it either, it is an excellent way to both bring relief and get the yuk out of their little bodies- I just see too much reliance on Rx and whatever is the "latest and greatest" recommendation for the medical profession which is now little more than the retail store for big pharma. PPD and steam and provoking a productive cough works. When I am around sick children and I hear that endless wet rattling in their little chests I am angered that this procedure is not common knowledge and used routinely by mothers. There is no need for them to struggle to breathe when you can help them expectorate that fluid and help them to feel so much better. Gravity works wonders to pull that fluid down and out; and it's free and available right at home.

He coughed too hard and fell and badly bruised his ribs. He thought they were broken and we went to the ER....that is when we learned that we had RSV. My Godson had the Croup, on and off as a baby, up to about, 2 years old, and oh how I use to get so worried. Highest fever was almost 104 and I had to give her a less than warm bath and Tylenol was given but it just wouldn't go below 102 for 3 days after two ER visits, she was finally admitted due to low oxygen. She's ok now, but my poor girl. I bought a pulse Oxygen sensor for this reason. She's had pneumonia when she was 1 too.

    My kids got the flu when my daughter was 6 weeks old and my son was almost 2 years old. And it was horrific. He was so sick but the baby needed me and I wanted to be there for both of them at the same time and it was so hard. Watching this mom with the baby and the toddler sitting on the chair just made my heart break. Poor mom. We can only stretch ourselves in so many ways. Nothing worse than sick kids. It’s so so hard to watch. Especially when you’re sick too

    I am days away from being 78 and I started with cold and cough symptoms and then lost my voice and coughed like a barking dog. It got so bad that I had to go to the emergency room. I never had so many doctors and nurses around me and was admitted to the hospital that evening. The first thing they did was hook me up to oxygen and that continued for the 5 days I spent in the hospital. VIRAL was all they could say because they did so many tests and images of my throat, ears, etc. The cough was so bad that they were also afraid I had damaged vocal cords. CROUP was all they could come up with. I know they were concerned about my oxygen level and if they should send me home on oxygen. I am home now and doing well, but it took me another good two weeks to get my voice back. When my son was 4 he had croup and I nursed him through it and then I got it and ended up in the hospital for several days back then. Childhood Disease, I don't think so. HA HA!!!!

    I know the baby is sick but it took 11 minutes before either of them gave the little girl who is also extremely not well a moments attention. This made me so sad and I just wanted to reach through this screen and hold her. The entire 16 min video she was sitting in that chair crying while everyone rambled on. Somebody could have given her attention while they talked.

    The mom needs to comfort both children. Her poor older daughter is just sobbing and she’s doing nothing to calm or comfort her. You have 2 arms for a reason!

    • @sheri4673
      @sheri4673 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I noticed that too, I wished she'd have sat down and let the older child up on her lap to rest- she was so uncomfortable in those hard chairs, she needed to lie down in her bed and sleep through as much of this misery as possible, instead she's stuck on hard plastic listening to people endlessly talk, it made me miserable to watch her feeling so bad.

      @@amandanelson339 I agree, she should have comforted her older child also, that's why I said she could have sat down to get her into her arms too. I'm just not criticizing her for not doing so, she could have just been a bit overwhelmed in the moment trying to deal with the infant and listen to the doc, with a camera in her face, and she herself sick- it was a lot for her at one time.

    I'm an asthmatic, so by default I've dealt with and taken advice from MANY Respiratory Therapists, & they (as well as the seasoned RNs) will tell you that the pulse oximetry numbers are NOT a great indicator of how well a person is breathing. People have been intubated at 97%. Asthmatics ESPECIALLY but not exclusively, are phenomenal compensators, and you'll notice a very high heart rate & days of no sleep,& very fatigued breathing muscles along with that good O2 sat...which no one can keep up indefinitely.
    Story time:
    My Mom was eating Tai food and laughing with us, we went walking down the streets on our day out & thought everything was fine. She had recently "recovered" from an URI. Back in the car, she suddenly started coughing & just didn't stop, this progressed to her literally foaming at the mouth, gasping for air, & basically slipping from us as we pulled over and frantically tried to administer her inhaler and called 911. The hospital wasn't far, the paramedics got her stable & transported. They were ready to intubate by the time we arrived. Apparently, her breathing muscles were just worn out from working so hard during the illness she'd just had, and even though she felt FINE all day, her body just didn't have the strength to fully recover.
    Respiratory illnesses AREN'T to EVER be taken lightly. And pulse oximeter device is not nearly as reliable as the ACTUAL patient sitting before you.❤

    It's nothing to be feared he says as you see 2 very miserable sick kids that can't be comforted, it's a respiratory virus so you could get pneumonia but there's nothing to fear. I am afraid of it already! I hope the littles feel better

    My child is dealing with this now and the doctor told us we need to let him breath in the medicine to clear the mucous for his lungs through a nebulizer. My child has been having fever off and on and cranky. Its like a cycle throughout the day once the medicine wears off. I thank God for the machine and medicine. This is day 2 for us. So im praying he gets well before the weekend.
