I couldnt help but cry the whole time because I relate so deeply to the held expression on mom's face. This was almost the exact issue we were in with our first- I was breast feeding and when the doctor gave my son that 4 ounce bottle when he was only 3 days old, he drank the entire thing in a matter of 5 minutes- my heart sank and couldnt stop crying because it really dose feel like its your fault when you're supposed to be able to naturally feed your baby and you cant initially. All this to say> my heart goes out to you, mama! And God bless that dad, very supportive and loving.
as an encouragement to the moms that are afraid of "nipple confusion" when supplementing with formula, I was then able to go on to breast feed my son, after working on getting my supply up, for his first year.
I am from India. I live and delivered my 1st baby in Germany. No doctor here never spoke to me so. My baby is Iugr and preterm by 35+6. Dr. Paul is so supportive
Wow, seeing this really makes me super grateful that breastfeeding went so seamlessly for me and my daughter. Love to see dad's asking questions too. That's awesome.
Its sad to me that moms are so hesitant to give formula even though their baby is not thriving. Its programmed into us that breast is the only way and we are failures if it doesn't work. I remember sitting at breadt feeding class while pregnant and asking the question at the end...so what if it doesn't work? All the other mothers gasped and I felt like they were going to chase me through the village with torches! It would be nice if the instructors said at the end of the day fed is best.
Eating and drinking made the different to me. I ate day and night. Drink day and Night. Still. So now my sons 3 month. He drinks about a liter. So I have to drink a loooooooot.
I feel you..my baby is 2 months old and don't sleep all the day...even after giving her formula she doesn't drink that much and always want to be alll day long breastfed . I am always telling myself she has a health issue because it s not my first baby an I never experienced that... I think and hope your baby eats solid now and you are ok now...
@@Qwikree thank you... My baby eats really well now... Her doctor recommended a formula.. I mixed feed her... She latches on me then later her formula.. By the way, she gained the weight that she lost...
It’s not worth the tears. I promise that. I have 8 kids, tries to breastfeed 7 of them and honestly never got it right, I tried through to the end. I needed to switch to formula and in the end, we do what we need to do so our children are fed.
My baby ate every 3-4 hours and she was growing really well I asked the midwife if the gap was big but they were really happy and said it normal but my mum kept saying wake her up every hour and I didn’t cause if she was hungry she will wake up
I always breastfed my babies on demand. A scheduled feeding every 3-4 hours did work for me. It was the differnce between 5 ounce weight gain a week and 10-11 ounces a week. ( my baby lost almost a full pound the first 3 days so weight was very closely monitored.
I had to nurse every two hours and wake my baby up and keep bugging her to nurse her and help her gain weight. My baby’s are normally smaller so I’m guessing their bellies fill up more quickly so i had to nurse more often.. with my first baby, I had a C Section and it was hard to establish a good milk supply so I had to supplement while I still tried to pump and eventually I was able to fully nurse..
I never breast fed! I was not a big eater, so I knew I was not going to produce enough. Both of my sons were on formula and did just fine. Things happen that are not our faults. Be thankful that we live in a day when we can supplement.
I feel mom’s pain! I had a very strong and fast let down and my now 2 year old was essentially drowning while nursing and would arch her back like crazy and I felt so helpless.
Thank you so much for the video. You just solved all my problems that had been killing me for the last 4 months. No one could explain why I'm having problems with my milk. You just nailed it. Thank you!
Attn:- first month just squueze out the milk to avoid engorgement , dont use pump.. you will be fine . Baby needs just one tablespoon,, so just feed frequently as much as you can. Feed every two hours is just a guideline. This lady is just doing fine.
My son had an upper lip tie that took a good year for me to figure out was the cause of his cluster feeding. I made tons of milk. He ate every hour for 10-30 minutes. The lactation nurse missed it and gave me a shield that was the wrong size. 🤦🏻♀️ The pediatrician missed it. His health was not a concern he was super healthy, due to my diligence I’m sure. But my breast pain, sanity and lack of sleep was an issue. One day I noticed his top lip did not really flip up away from his gums to form a really good latch. He was about 15 months when I took him to a doctor to ask for options to fix it and the doctor had no idea what I was talking about. He also did not know how to do a proper hold to examine his mouth. I had seen it in a video doing my research and schooled him. Of course he had no clue what to do. Talk about frustrating. I did more internet research looking into options. I made an appointment to have it laser cut. NOT EVEN JOKING, the very next day he was running across the room, tripped, hit his upper lip on the edge of our rocking chair and it was a perfect sever and barely bled. 😂 He walked at 10 months. I breast fed him until he was 4. I discovered by his complaints at about age 2.5 that he also has cheek ties. They sometimes still bother him and he’s 6. You cannot stick your finger in his mouth and pull his check away from his teeth. It hurts. But he was always healthy I made so much milk. The lactation nurse was shocked at my milk productions. I pumped and stored it to keep milk production up since he had a huge appetite. This kid went through 10 diapers a day and often more than half were poopy. He was a late potty trainer. Never wet the bed. But wasn’t poop trained until he was 5. That was a huge expense. I’d like to add that I leaked before he was even born. I would get in a warm shower and my boobs would literally spray. If I heard a baby my boobs leaked. I soaked through milk pads, my bra, and my shirt would be sopping before I would even notice. I was definitely ready for this boy. Breast feeding him and bonding like we did was one of my greatest delights.
I've got a 1 month old and the breastfeeding has been the biggest anxiety for me. Not knowing if he gets enough food and gaining weight. We have been adding formula from the start after every feed just to make sure he gets enough, it's been a huge relief to have as a tool, thank gawd for formula!
I wanted to nurse my babies, but it just didn’t work out. I worked extensively with a lactation consultant with baby one and a little bit with baby two. Gave nursing a try for baby three and didn’t even bother for baby four. I was heart broken for the first two that I couldn’t nurse. The only plausible explanation I was given was that perhaps my milk ducts were receded. I made milk and baby latched, but very little would come out. Instead of feeling sad and guilty I chose to move on with life and be thankful for bottles and formula.
I am not a medical expert but: oats/grains can help. LOTS of water, put it this way; if you can’t remember the last time you had a sip of water you need to drink some! 3-4 hours is a long time in between feeds for a baby that age, especially one underweight.
Dr. Paul said that was normal.
