    I find that application with a paint brush makes applying tyre dressing infinitely easier.
    The bristles easily get into all the tiny spaces.
    Just apply, wait 5 minutes, and then wipe down with a soft microfiber towel to even it out and prevent streaking.

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing
      @CarCraftAutoDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a dressing yes, I actually did a video about a month ago showing that process. But for this coating a brush would just leave too many steaks and high spots, and as wiping the coating down with a cloth will at least to some degree shorten it’s durability it’s probably not the best applicator for this tyre coating.

    Sandra,
    Excellent video as always. I would like to say that this product scares me just a little. I used a product made by another company about six years ago and it was so permanent it didn’t allow the side walls to breathe and the sidewalls ended up turning brown because the natural solvents and oils that are already in the rubber could not escape to atmosphere. I ended up with permanent reddish brown sidewalls. The company stood behind their product and ended up purchasing new tires for me on a prorated basis which was fantastic. Needless to say they were Michelin pilots super sport tires and they weren’t cheap. I’m anxious to see how this product does in six months to see if the same scenario might take place. Please keep us informed.
    Thank you Sandra.

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    Thanks for this video on Blackout, I've been a fan of Pearl as I can dilute with water to achieve the finish I prefer. As I fortunately have the time to wash as often as I like I still like to use a tyre finish after each wash. I will certainly give this a try though. Thanks again really appreciate these informative videos as they are a great help. Cheers Brenton.

    Thanks Sandro, great review. I share your thoughts on solvent-based coatings, pity they couldn't nail a water-based formulation. I went hunting and if it's news to you, from what I can gather Renew Protect Blak is solvent-free and yet excels in areas. I haven't tried it yet but the product description is quite exceptional and users are reporting 2-3 months durability on the road. It's even claimed to be safe for motorcycles as it's "completely non-slip, silicone-free, oil-free" - very interesting at the least.

  • @ssing7113
    @ssing7113 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve found I think it depends on tire compound. Age.
    I noticed mine after 6 months look like it’s all off. Doesn’t have that new feel and I think maybe dark side is better to stick with for most people. For the more extreme I would do blackout with dark side.
    I was a little disappointed the looks fade quite quickly so what you’re left with is a tire protector with no looks… not many would hassle if they knew the long term affects I believe.

      @@klasseact6663 I'm not a young guy with back problems and bending down to put a dressing on the tire is not as easy as it used to be. Cleaning the wheels is tough enough. I have a rolling stool that I use, which does help.

      @klasseact6663 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@archiepezek gotcha! Well this WILL help that out for sure😉 I'd like to pass this along to you to help in wheel cleanings. Once the wheel are cleaned and still wet, spray some 303 Touchless Sealant on them, let sit for about a minute and hose off. You'll notice incredible water beading and your wheels will repel dirt and brake dust better and make the next cleaning alot easier.

    • @archiepezek

    As always good review Sandro but for a tire dressing, I like to re-apply it after every carwash. Optimum also has a longer lasting dressing and I do not use it anymore because it does not looks that good as a freshly applied dressing. Nor will BlackOut I guess.

  • @groundcontrol6876
    @groundcontrol6876 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just use megs hyperdressing 4:1 as it gives me the look I like on my tires. A little bit too shiny that first day, but after that it settles back down to that perfect, just black/darkened look that I love. It makes keeping my tires clean easier and even though I always use a harsh alkaline cleaner (H7 degreaser) to strip it off every wash, you can still see the tire "sucks up" the tire dressing and they still look nice and black before reapplying (without being greasy). Obviously after you reapply, it is a bit greasy to the touch, but I've never had problems with sling or gunk being built up on the tires, and it always keeps them looking great. I also spray down the wheel well plastic liners and the flaps in the rear and it gives it an amazing "new plastic" look. Also makes the fender liners release the dirt much more easily when you wash em.

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing
      @CarCraftAutoDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hyperdressing is great, I also really like it and it’s actually the only water based tyre dressing Meguiars makes so it was the only one I used!

  • @rattymcclelland

    I followed the instructions to a tee. Got everything bang on, I honestly don't get more than 2 weeks out of this coating, I'm sure tyre make model and compound plays a big part but on my 350mile a week van it doesn't last on the Falkens I'm using, pearl lasts a solid 3 weeks used neat on these with half the prep. I even stripped it and reapplied and same results.
    I'm going to use this coating on my other vehicles which have AD08RS tyres and see if it's any better.

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing
      @CarCraftAutoDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s extremely surprising to hear! The Alfa’s Pirelli tyres I applied them to does a good 400-500 kms a week as we are in the country and commute to the city almost daily. See how you go on another set, seems very unlike what I’ve experienced with it so far!

    • @rattymcclelland
      @rattymcclelland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarCraftAutoDetailing yes I was pretty gutted. My go to tyre dressing is Black pearl tyre armour and I get 3 solid months out of that on my daily drive and 9 months on my other 2 cars that do way less miles. I ordered a 100ml bottle so I have plenty left to try. I'm on the Facebook Carpro group and after I posted my finding it appears I wasn't the only one with durability issues.

    Another thing to consider is a lot of new modern tires especially Michelin they do not recommend putting anything on their side wall as the car comes with a coating on the sidewall from the factory. So for me I just purchased a brand new set of Michelin tires PS S for my BMW and I’m not sure if I want to apply this on the sidewalk because it actually probably may interfere with the factory coating

    Was wondering when you were going to put up your video. I believe we both received it as the same time. My video is nowhere near as thorough as yours since you did chemical testing.
    I agree that the included applicator is not good. Like you I used a microfiber applicator. As a matter of fact I used an Autofiber coating saver applicator which worked fantastic. It also leaves a better finish.
    I have moved away from tire coating because like yourself how good is it for the tire if it’s so hard to remove. Not to mention repairing it if the tire rubs against a curb. I put it on a friends car and it looked great. Nice black finish that is not overly glossy.

    Sandro…I have some blackout but, just haven’t used it yet….I think it’s results will be quite dependent on meticulous preparation.

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing
      @CarCraftAutoDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will somewhat self level further but not entirely after it cures, so a better applicator and process is beneficial. It also largely depends on the tyres themselves, it’s looked very level on the Pirelli tyres but not as much on the Dunlop’s I tested.

    My biggest issue is that my race brake pads dust like crazy, and after like a day my wheels AND tires look like most people’s after 3 months. So I don’t really think this is for me, other than making it easier to get the tires clean, but I never have an issue with that. It’s just how quickly they get completely filthy

    There are cheap ones all over the internet starting at as cheap as $25.Now they look the part and seem to come with different thickness samples so you can calibrate it.Do you think they are good enough for one car at least?

    Hey Sandro, so I applied this product 2 months ago, and did a very good job prepping and applying it. It’s working good, it definitely isn’t as rich but it’s never brown or anything and cleans easy. Pretty happy overall. However, could I prep and add another layer or two? Or should I just clean and top with a decent dressing of my choice that I can wash off and redo every few weeks? What would you do, brother? Thanks in advance!

    • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

      If you still have product left over I don’t see any harm in giving it a go and applying another layer or two. BlackOut just seem to bond so strongly that it could layer well even a couple of months down the track over itself and may add that extra saturation you’re after.

    Worth noting that this is a highly dangerous chemical. Respirator, gloves and eye protection should be worn at all times while handling this product or even the applicator after use. Considering it claims to be a long term penetrating product, anticipate using caution around the product and the applicator anytime you come into contact with it.
