So, kyurem is actually not from space or anything. He is the “empty husk” that was left when reshiram and zekrom split in two from the original dragon. So he’s a byproduct of those legendaries’ split.

^I was gonna say this. Personally I think for this reason, it belongs in the cryptid or worshipped entity section, since it's not nearly as well known as Reshiram or Zekrom, and is only featured in very localized folklore.

I think what makes legendaries not feel 'legendary' anymore has nothing to do with the pokemon themselves or how many there are, but rather cause of Pokemon go. No seriously, in pokemon go you can get like 4 or 10 of the same legendary groudon or dialga, and thats fine for that game, but because of its popularity its influenced the mainline games too. now you just get them from raids in sword and shield and from an actual freaking national park in brilliant diamond and shining pearl. In the anime goh can just catch a suicune in a filler episode too. The way they've been treated makes them feel like just rarer-than-average pokemon, rather than the gods and myths that they are

I think putting Zygarde in the cryptid tier misses out on its connection to the Yggdrasil legend that Xerneas and Yveltal are but otherwise awesome video! Smooth editing and clean audio, plus this was a really fun topic, you did great!

The main reason I put Zygarde in the “cryptid” class is because it doesn’t seem to have much similarities to the Yggdrasil duo in its native region, Kalos. I know thematically and design wise it fits in, but in-universe, Zygarde is only found in a cave in Kalos postgame. Not even Lysander or Team Flare considers Zygarde essential for their plans with the ultimate weapon. Also, in Alola, there are scientists researching its cell phenomenon. So for that reason, it seemed more like a cryptid than a divine being.

@@TamValleyProductions well it's ability is a hard counter to the other of its trio, things biologically made to handle them better than anyone or anything besides probably arceus and those other top teir guys you listed so feels kinda off putting zygarde on the same level as pokemon Bigfoot, but I can't really argue against the cell maker item since I have no idea how that works. @@TamValleyProductions I think Zygarde's relative underutilization is entirely due to gen 6 being incomplete. Most 3rd game legendaries start off as just a rare pokemon in a cave somewhere and it isn't until the 3rd game actually releases that we actually learn about how important they are. I think it was going to be the same deal with Zygarde. My guess is that there was a "Pokemon Z" planned at some point which was going to be much more Zygarde centric but it ended up getting canceled and all the cell collecting and Zygarde forms were were just salvaged for Pokemon Sun and Moon, explaining why they feel so tacked on in those games. I think the anime, although definitely no place to look for official lore details, offers a great view into what the story would've been like. The final season of the X and Y arc of the anime focuses on team flare exclusively looking for Zygarde, with Lysander planning to take over world with it instead of either of the box legendaries. Although I agree with you that currently Zygarde doesn't really see like anything special, the original intention seems to be to have it on a similar level as Xerneas and Yveltal.

Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza didn't create their respective elements. Canonically, they were born in them, forced by them, incarnation of them if you will.
Arceus, then, didn't create any pokemon other than Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. Almost every other legendary is self-born and didn't create anything that didn't already exist.
Zekrom and Reshiram have shared origins with kyurem, so they should be in the same category.
Zygard is the protector of Earth, so it should be in the A category. Also, there are canonically only 100 Zygarde cells, nothing more and nothing less.

    • @TamValleyProductions

Interesting point about Arceus and its creations. However the main reason I put Zekrom and Reshiram in another class than Kyurem is because Kyurem is directly to be emerged from a meteor. Whereas the other two dragons only have vague legends in Unovan culture about the two brothers that wielded each one of them in an ancient conflict. So I think the reason they’re lumped together with Kyurem in-game is because they’re all strong dragon types with cultural implications in the Unova region. But on a scientific level, I believe Zekrom and Reshiram have less powerful, earthly origins separate from Kyurem.

I feel like Zygarde should really be classified more with Xerneas and Yveltal for a simple reason: It's the balance between the two. It's cells show the balance between life and death: reproduction. The cycle of life wherein the old dies and the new goes on where it left off. I also remember it having been stated in the games that it brings balance to the two, but my memory could be faulty.

Good analysis, though I do have a complaint about Zygarde. It shouldn't be in F tier. While Zygarde isn't exactly known, it's stated multiple times in it's pokedex entries to be the pokemon in charge of keeping the ecosystem stable. The cells are not sentient, only the cores are, both of which act as it's brains. The cores act as a sort of surveillance that allows Zygarde to be almost omnipresent, as there are millions of them spread out across the world keeping an eye on everything, allowing Zygarde to intervene when someone is disrupting the natural order of the world. Essentially they're sort of like Arceus mixed with the Tao deities, just more active. It also is shown to be insanely powerful and has one of the highest base stats in it's complete form, and is implied to be one of a kind, as it's two brains and all the cells are really just the same pokemon but split up. So I think it's deserving of at least B tier.

I'd argue that the Lake Guardians are class A, and I would reclassify the Weather Trio to class B. The way the Lake Guardians were set up in relation to the Creation Trio indicates that the Pokémon universe is not materialisitc in nature but idealistic instead.
We're taught that awareness is not essential for physics to exist and that it is a byproduct of a certain configuration of matter. Pokémon takes the opposite view and argues that the world cannot exist without consciouness and that it exists inside of the mind. It is not a product of matter but instead generates physicality: time, space and matter. That's why the Lake Guardians have power over Dialga or Palkia and are able to summon, control and restrain them. Here, time, space and mind are interchangeable and different aspects of the same thing, the foundation of existence.
This is because Arceus, the Creation Trio and the Lake Guardians are based on Neo-Platonic philosophy and each represents the One, Sense World and Soul World, respectively, with Nous being represented by the Unwon, also known as Logos or speech, the word of God.
While impressive and mighty in their own right, the Weather Trio and Aura Trio manage the different spheres of the Earth. They are not fundamental aspects of existence, yet still fundamental aspects for physical life to exist as it does on this planet. Each member of the Weather Trio is the incarnation of one of three of the four spheres of the Earth: the stratosphere, the hydrosphere and the lithosphere while the Aura Trio seem to manage the biosphere embodying life, death and equilibrium in an ecosystem.
There is a possibility that Mew arose from them as the first organic lifeform, subject to the forces of life and death forced to change and adapt to its environment, marking the beginning of biological evolution.

Interesting note on Regigigas that despite not really representing anything he might be one of the strongest legendaries.
