#92 Making a Rhinoceros Sized Candy Cane

- Today we make a special candy cane for a special customer. His name is Graham and he is a 5000lb Rhino that lives in the Wild Adventures theme park. Footage of him enjoying his candy cane is at the end.
I love how the elephant had the human hold the candy for him. Here human. Hold this for me. Elephants are so smart and amazing.

@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial they do have a mechanical puller some of the less muscly staff use and when there doing larger batches though although i imagine the hook is easier for smaller batches
I was noticing that too. I wouldn't make it through 5 pulls. Whew.
You may not like it but that's what peak performance looks like.

I used to watch a lot of unwrapped on food network when I was little, and I really enjoyed the candy making episodes. It's been hard to find a show that has the same kind of behind the scenes content about candy making since that show, until i discovered this channel today!

Idk if this is just me but Greg's voice makes me fall asleep at night.. his voice is so soothing almost like "Bob Ross' the painter. I actually alseep listening to Greg and wake up listening to greg. I actually had sleep insomnia before i stated listening to his videos, but now i no longer do. So huge thank you

Love that big candy cane. When my son was a kid, it got to be a tradition for him to get a BIG candy cane each year. I would haunt all the candy and specialty stores to find the biggest one available. The bigger the better. One year I found one almost as big as the rhino cane. It lasted him well into the next year. Sadly, the tradition stopped when he went to college. He had no way to get one back to school after the holiday. Couldn't do it now even if I wanted to - he can't have the sweets. Bummer. But it is fun to remember the look on his face the first time. Normally, candy canes were tucked INTO the top of our Christmas stockings. But for him, his stocking was hung from the crook at the top of his candy cane.
What happens if you put the white hook pulled candy in a vacuum pump? Would it turn back into amber since all of the bubbles went away?
Buy me a nice vacuum bell, and I'd be happy to test the theory.

I have a strong feeling the white color would stay, just because the candy is pretty viscous at the pulling phase, and the bubbles are very very small so the force on each one is pretty tiny. It’d be interesting to see for sure!

Ayy Greg I know u might not like request but I'm in Arizona and on the sueharu cactus there is a fruit called prickly pare on it but you could make az shaped candy maybe???
Prickly pear is absolutely wonderful. Even it he didn't make an Arizona themed candy, it would definitely be a flavor to play with.
It's hard to make a flavor youve never tasted. I'll have to try some some day.

Prickly pear and saguaro fruit are two different fruits but both are delicious. It would be awesome to see something like that. I’m in Arizona too.

So probably my favorite thing is that I remember the early youtube days where you didnt show ups all of the pulls on the candy hook until people told you they actually count them and would like to see them all.

As I've gained experience, I've learned to pull the candy into a much longer strand. It's harder to do this without losing the candy to the floor. But now that I can I can make the candy white and much fewer pulls. I only realized this last week.

I don't know why, but watching you fold the candy on the hook or in the folding/taffy machine seems so satisfying. Just watching it change colors and take on the sheen of the air being mixed into the batch is hypnotic. Have you ever considered making a compilation video if nothing but the candy hook and the folding machine?
I could do that. But to answer your question, no answer have not thought about it before now.

This is so awesome!! I watched someone make peppermint looking through the window with a crowd of people..my dad was holding me, and someone came out and gave us fudge and peppermint samples..I ate mine and my dads lol
