Today we are taking a closer look at a prototype of a 2009 Phoenix Gold amplifier named "The One". This amplifier was sold in limited production of 100 with an MSRP of $6000 USD! At the time, this amp rated at 12,000 watts was one of the most powerful amplifiers you could by for car audio. If you needed more power, you could even strap 2 of them for 24,000 watts of power! The One has a gold plated circuit board and is rated for 16 volt systems. Let's take a closer look and see how it performs!

I worked for AAMP when they acquired Phoenix Gold. This was the first amp designed by AAMP and Morgan when PG was acquired. It was 1000% for real chief

Big D I used to have a phoenix gold zx250 back in the day on 2 kicker comps when they used to be red and white. I loved Phoenix Gold back in the day. It was the go to amp. Now the stuff is very expensive and I haven't seen anyone use the new stuff. This prototype amp is AMAZING!!! I'M OTTA HEREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! :)

I bump nothin but Phoenix Gold amps back in the mid 90s....I had the ZX 350 pushin two Infinity Beta 12 Subs....in a small sealed box...that set up hit damn hard!!!those amps never broke a sweat

Zx500 with an M50 for the highs. All kicker. Subs were 2, 12’s 2, 6.5 “ and a 5 1/4 component set
Back in the day, I won an SPL competition with Thump THA-2000(Phoenix Gold off brand) and 2 Pyramid Pro 15 inch subwoofers. Dropped 142.8 dB in a sealed enclosure. Box was oversized and played down to 22 hz but 45 hz is where it shot a can of Pepsi in the air.

Holy crap, Big D, I was so close to picking up a broken one of these on eBay about 4 years ago. I was outbid though. Ended up going for $150 more than I was willing to go. But who knows how high the other guy wanted to go. Have always been a HUGE fan of the old Ti amps. WAY underrated

That's awesome. I've heard people say they can hear an amp hissing but this was crazy. Little clip at the end was hilarious. I'd be scared to. Sounded like it was about to sizzle and smoke.
That’s the sound of an amp straining. If it does that too long, you usually hear a loud pop afterwards 😲

Back in 96 I had the phoenix gold zx450 with two 12 inch subs and it kicked hard af
We had an amp quite similar to this one in Norway as well.
It was called "Dynabel BF8701" - Rated 7000w at 1 ohm (with a .1% THD)
The board layout is similar to this Phoenix Gold amp (probably made by FS Zenon - Korean amp boards), with the difference being the cap sizes and layout.
However, the model sold over here was significantly cheaper to purchase (I believe it came out around 2007 / 2008 or something like that), it cost around 15000 NOK (or roughly $2000 at the time)
I believe there was a guy testing one of these and got very similar numbers to those of the Phoenix Gold prototype
Long story short if ya owned one of these amps when they where released you would need a steady 1000 amps if power from your alternators to keep them battery's alive and also know a good window repair shop
I love phenoix gold amps. I am blessed I got one for 45 dollars its only 100 watts rms.

I watched the PAS Mag video back in '09 when this amp came out. I loved watching Gary Springgay give his reviews. Other than competition, I don't see the need in having a giant current hog like this in a vehicle. But hey, to each his own. Hell even the JBL A6000 GTi is too much to handle. 😮

Was up bro im running 2 15 inch kicker CVR with a planet audio 3000.1 at 0.5 ohms. I was very impressed that it was able to handle half ohm, i have it banging in my daily driver.
Reminds me of the Zapco ZX-26KW amp. The Zapco is a production model though. Freaking crazy amp.

Remember the big boy that came with and alternator. 50,000 amp back in the 90s when Phoenix gold was amazing. 1/4 ohm load .. no problem
It was only a prototype, never finished. Model is MPH-6300. Friend has this prototype, hopefully we can show it off one day 🙏
My K9s are ridiculously loud when you go into clip, but makes it easy to set the gains ;)

Phoenix gold made 2 of these prototypes but they had a "10k" board compare to the 100 units that were from the actual production that has the "12k" board but PG did went pretty conservative with the power rating .
Back in the day I had ZPA .05.....and that amp was no joke. It needed a lot of juice though......and bit killed my 2 Sound Stream 15s like it was nothing with the gain less then half way.

Another great video mate, I realy enjoy and appreciate your work. I was wondering if you can make a Dyno check on these new Sony Shake systems cause their power output rms is nowhere to be found and they claim some insane wattage like 2400watts and etc. There is big hype about these systems where I live, lots of ppl buy them including I own one too its loud but there is somethig definitely that Sony doesn't say to the customer.

Since you mentioned prototype I found a 10in crystal cmpx2. I can't find any info on it. It is a sick sub. Back in the late 90's car audio loved crystal. If you know anything about it I'd like to know
I love all the stuff you do with Phoenix gold products…..i have been a PG guy for all my system owning life……my prized PG amp is a route 66…..the second oneIve owned.…I bought and owned that PG RT 66 before i had a car worthy of it being in…..lol…..cuz my first one got nabbed…….but ya im an old schooler that started doing this shit on my 94 eagle talon and my 72 Monte Carlo……..Keep up the good work my man….and stay safe…YA BIG DUMMY......

The amp that was posted on the first pics of the PG advertisement is different than the one you tested.
You need a lithium battery bank. But that ain't cheap . they have way more stabile voltage at discharge.it only drops about 1v through most of the discharge. I am trying to build a lithium battery bank to power my home. I am at 230 useable amp hours now. And need atleast 4 times that. Along with solar panels. And a DC generator. I know you probably aren't in to that kinda stuff. But both run on batteries! That is a cool amp. I would not want to play too much with something so costly. Still cool!!!
James I am into that kind of stuff and been wondering about lithium batteries and how to hook up all that solar stuff. And is it possible to set up like a self sustained hydro power in lime a 40ft shipping container and be able to provide the proper head and pump to sustain it and make enough energy to provide for house.

There was 100 production amps made plus 2 10k prototypes which is this one they did add a stronger board on the production amplifiers

While 12,000 watts sounds extreme, it's only twice as loud as 1,200 watts.
This is weird that its only 1 of 2 since there is a review video of this amp from like 6 mos ago
I know this is an old video, and I’m not 100% sure if this applies to dc current. But current isn’t spread equally across cables it tends to be higher in one cable than the others, I’ve seen huge mismatches before a couple hundred amps on one cable but under a hundred on the next.
This is cool, and I would never intentionally disrespect you brother, this amp is cool and all, however if I were to decide to go big power on a large setup, I would go with something along the lines of a Crescendo 10k or Vibe Audio or Twisted Sounds, something that is a little more technologically advanced than a crazy priced Pheonix Gold. I have had PG subs and amp in my old GMC Jimmy, and they sounded OK, but I eventually replaced all 6 of the PG 12s with one Memphis Audio triple decker LVS 12 and amp that literally took my breath away the first time I played it, and I always thought of Memphis Audio as a joke. I was wrong...and I could be about PG as well, but from my experience you'd be better off paying the $2200 asking price for the Crescendo amp than to pay $6000 for an amp that's only rated at 2000 watts more and draws WAY more power.
No disrespect received, this was a special edition amp which turns out to not be that special at all. Don’t forget, this design is already 8 years old and this was a prototype also
I agree with big d. This was a big amp back in the day but it isn't the PG of old. Of course there are better now days. Still cool for the times I guess. And the PG rSD were pretty decent woofers for the money of their newer subs.

Love these vids have you ever tested 90s crossfire amps and directed amps also I'm wanting to get a old-school crossfire amp to go with my old school crossfire 10 or 12 that I redid the surrounds on.
I tested CFA-30HC and CFA-15HC and both did really well.

Awesome video Big D.......but honestly, nothing holds a candle to the JBL Crown amp!!! I know it is made for a 2ohm load......but at 1.8 ohms you get 6000 per channel? I would love to see it at 1ohm. Lol

Thanks Big D. I must say I am a little disappointed at the power output. I was expecting much larger numbers especially from a 6000.00 dollar amplifier. But I have to say it is a beautiful amp to look at.

The one PAS tested couldn’t get rated on 16v. This will never do rated on 14v. It was a bust but it looked good if you showed the guts.
