If you love Nirvana and Smells Like Teen Spirit, you are going to love how simple I break this down so you by the end of this video you will be singing more like Kurt Cobain!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Kurt actually did blow his voice out in Munich Germany. It happened half way through the 1994 In Utero European tour where the band played 16 shows in just 24 days. Kurt blew his voice out on the 3rd song of the night, which was Drain You. Nirvana would continue the night and play 20 more songs. I couldn't imagine how much pain he was in while trying to sing Territorial Pissings, which was one of the last few songs for the night. Kurt saw a throat specialist the next day who told him he needed to take the next 4 weeks off to recover. They ended up canceling the rest of the tour and that would be the very last time nirvana would play in concert. The final song Kurt ever sang live was heart shaped box. RIP Kurt, you are missed.
Wow Ian, thank you for that - I had never heard all that before, so I appreciate you sharing! Kurt's talent will always be adored and of highest value to his many fans.. Nirvana was the first band ive ever listened to as a teenager and i hate him for blowing his brains out..they were the inspiration for me to get a guitar at 15yo and learn it. After that ive come a long way in musical discovery from jazz, pop, rock, country, blues etc. Now im 38, have a band and my own songs...they all have this Nirvana vibe to it. They really were special. RIP Kurt

@@RockYourBestVocals usually when I Scream when singing this i just really scream as hard and loud as I can with a lot of air and add as much rasp as I can and I can do it for the whole song but usually by the end I've damaged my voice enough where I can't sing for 1 to 3 days afterwards.
I noticed that on From The Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, he does this thing where he pulls his nose down a little bit and aims his rasp up between his eyes. That is a good way to save energy, because you use less with the nasal port open than closed. Another singer who sounds like he does that a lot is Richard Patrick from Filter.
Thanks for this video, you explain this well, cause I’m trying to sing this song as well cause it’s one of my favorite songs to listen to. So far I got all the verses. Just the chorus is really my problem.

Hi Ethan, Good question! There are always going to be little nuances in vocal performance (especially with Kurt who liked to mix things up with his voice often!), and I'm assuming that what you are referring to with respect to volume/intensity is because the unplugged is a more subdued performance, therefore he wouldn't be singing as 'aggressive' as live, however I would not classify this song as 'belting' (that's more associated with a sound that is very loud & sounds a bit like 'yelling' in pitch). Just as an example, here is a good isolated track of him singing 'Come As You Are' live: th-cam.com/video/hPNTEXFgja4/w-d-xo.html which you can hear his 'intensity' is a little bit more than the unplugged (albeit not a HUGE amount greater) Hope that helps!
