Fun Fact: The man who raises his glass to Paddington during the taxi ride montage was Michael Bond, the writer of the original novels, who sadly passed away before the release of the second film. Also, loved the joke of Mr Brown chiding the taxi driver for taking them an unnecessarily long route, just to show off all the London landmarks, even the ones that aren't beside each other.
I love how sincere the Paddington films are. In a world where everyone tries to be the "smart guy" who subvert expectations, poke fun at or say how dumb this and that trope are, it's refreshing to see a film play its cards straight, with so much heart. I think films like that are needed more than ever nowadays, for both kids and grown ups. They're seriously some of my favourite films in the past 10 or so years. Can't wait to see the third one.
Sometimes subverting tropes comes off as the writer telling you "being kind and caring and a good person is lame, be a complete jackass instead" and on some level the audience WILL reject that.
I've always loved how Paddington isn't toxicly positive nor too childlike. He's curiously optimistic and never preaches. Most of the emotional lessons he teaches others are almost a by-product of Paddington being his authentic self. Each of the Paddington films feels like they were made with the same love, care and artistry that Micheal Bond gave to him all those years ago. And it's funny how each member of the Brown family and their neighbors all learn from Paddington much the same way as anyone in the audience learns from him. Paddington makes you want to be kinder and more inquisitive simply because it's a wonderful thing. I hope this trilogy is studied in film and media courses for years to come.
Dude, you said it perfectly, especially in the second film where Paddington gets angry at the chef instead of the usual dopey ignorance of not even knowing he's being bullied. Not only that, but being forgiving towards him because he knows the chefs anger is a by-product of embarrassment unlike the usual forgive everything and everyone no matter what that is so commonly found.
I love the use of lighting in this movie. It's usually so warm and cozy, but the kitchen scene with the letter is cold. You can *feel* the loss of Paddington's warmth in that scene and many of the scenes after until they're together again, with little hints of it here and there when they start working together.
The same in Paddington 2 when he goes outside. At first it's very warm and everyone's happy in his presence. But when he's in jail and we see Windsor Gardens, it looks cold and distanced and the people are rude - Paddington had an enormous influence on them. Love that bear.
I've heard this movie described as a "Warm Bear Hug", and it's totally true. The entire family can enjoy the misadventures of a talking bear, and love the wholesome bond he shares with the family, who have all very unique, memorable personalities.
At 13:08 when Paddington is talking about the quirks he likes about the Brown’s, it reminds me of Amélie where she lists the likes and dislikes of the folks around her. And there’s a whimsy and kindness to this movie that is shared with Amélie as well. Paddington 2 is SO rightfully raved over, but I always really really encourage people to watch this first movie too. It has so much personality! It’s as if the picture books came to life!! Do not sleep on Paddington (2014)!!
Hot take disclaimer, the scene with the family reacting to the letter when Paddington left. I thought that Johnathon’s reaction was spot on for being a dreamer. (1) He confronts and rejects his dad’s viewpoint outright because, for the first time, not only has someone supported all his dreams; Paddington also shared in them and helped make them real. His dad saying that can’t happen anymore, and insisting that it’s a good thing, caused the snap. (2) He leaves the room first. Where does he go? Back to his room, the same place where the dreams have always been strongest. He retreats back within his safe shell and rejects any reality that threatens his dreams. If you guys read this far, as a British viewer, how the hell are you gunna be doing Paddington while ignoring the entire Aardman universe. Please watch Chicken Run, especially with kids.
Fun Fact! In the scene where Paddington accidentally floods the place, some of the books on the kitchen table were bought from my fathers tiny little ebay business. He buys and restores antiquarian books that he sells on but he does also sell lots of other books in general. And I still remember being so excited when the studio reached out and wanted to 'borrow' the books as props. They purchased the books with the intent of giving them back to us after filming had concluded lol and told us what movie they were going to be in! And then, months later, we got another email telling us they were very sorry but our books got absolutely destroyed in the scene and they paid us a little compensation as an apology! It was so cool and I'll never forget it. My whole family watched Paddington and my dad and I laughed at the scene, pointing out our books on the table.
Moment of appreciation for Simon Farnaby who cowrote these films and enhanced almost every British Gen Z's childhood. Also Hugh Bonneville was not in titanic Alan you're thinking of Downton Abbey.
It's wholesome AND funny! I especially love the cutaway gag where Mr and Mrs Brown ride into the hospital on a motorcycle and leave in an SUV with baby Judy.
Okay, that's it. I don't think I could possibly have another specific hope for a movie to be covered on this show. Maybe other than Paddington 2. Love yall
As a child, we always had big family movie nights, but as I grew up, we started going to the cinema together less and less. I remember Paddington was one of the last films we all went to go see together and we all loved. (kinda helped our family also fit the dynamics of the family in the film)
I've heard the warm bear hug comparison, or called a soft fluffy film. I think these movies are a marmalade sandwich on freshly baked (and slightly toasted) bread. Not for everyday, but a great, satisfying, just sweet enough treat that hits the spot.
I’ve already booked my ticket to see Paddington in Peru tomorrow. My mam and I love the Paddington movies and no matter who you talk to in the UK, adult or child, nearly everyone I spoke to loves these movies. ❤

I love Paddington (the books and the movies) because it was the closest thing in Western media that depicted a family that wasn't just a simple nuclear family
@@LtGhost-tb3kq Nothing really it's just I'm African and the nuclear family is often an outlier rather than the norm. With Western media dominating the space when I was a kid I was never able to fully "get" the media. Take for instance adopted kids. In a lot of shows, a kid finding out they were adopted would be a huge deal but where I'm from it's not even worth noting. Most people are never raised by their direct parents- often aunts, uncles, neighbours, siblings etc. Being related by blood seldom meant anything other than who had your birth certificate. Paddington is technically "adopted" and it's never made a big deal of- he's part of the family (in the books anyway- I know the entire premise of the first movie is about adoption) Another is the Aunt living in the house. Her direct relation is never truly explained- which side of the family she's from or if it's even by blood- she just functions as a grandma type. This was again common to me because family was never denotes by relation but rather by age. Your cousin could have been the same age as your mother but you never called them your cousin- you called them aunt, because of their age. Small stuff like that, that never made it into the standard depictions of the nuclear family and I never saw often on TV but was surrounded by in real life.
Paddington is such a heartwarming and warm film. The family bonding, the innocence and the faith he had in the people around, spreading kindness and compassion wherever he goes. We need more of this type of stories.❤
LOVE the phrase "Unconditional Positive Regard". That was my husband as he was described by numerous people when he passed a few years ago. You never hear this phrase. Very rare. And it's PERFECT for Paddington and others with that non-judgemental 'take people from where they are and assume the best" attitude. Excellent analysis!
We need more movies like this!! It has a really good message. A lot of movies aren't fun anymore. It's all about remakes and how much blood and gore are in horror movies they can put in. Rather then write a good story. It's very sad!
This is what I love about some characters is some characters don't need to change they help others to change good people can help other people to be great people
About Time is my favorite movie of all time. Please, please, please do a video on it. You could cover couple's therapy, family therapy, grief, how to live life to its fullest, or even toxic relationships and substance abuse. So many possibilities.

Yep, certain teens want to be reminded that they were born from love. I know I did. My folks would have some rather bitter arguments, but they came through, & when it was good enough for them to kiss each other, I cheered. Others will still yuck at it though
These movies are just incredible. They're warm, and smart, and friendly for lack of a better word. There's still conflict and truth and the acknowledgment of the occasional need for a Hard Stare, but the world would be better if it were more like these films - and even with a talking bear, that's not so surrealistic a request as one might think.

my freshman year of college, i moved to the states from Honduras to pursue my education. I watched this movie that year in my dorm room and i remember being WRECKED. i was paddington! away from home, in a place that didnt speak my language, and trying to find where i fit in. in a way, this movie healed me. thank you for analyzing it and giving it a new perspective!💗
I had the same experience. I moved to Europe from the Caribbean for work. I first watched it after yt’s algorithm sent me the video of Paddington having tea with the queen. It was the middle of the pandemic. I was Paddington too. In a new country, lonely and missing my family but also trying to fit in my new country and making new friends. I cried ugly tears whenever I watched (which was often when it was on Netflix).
There's so much that is wonderful about this movie and so much interesting stuff that could be discussed. Like the xenophobia that Paddington faces as an asylum seeker, the love he develops for his new home and family, but at the same time, how he desperately misses his old home and his aunt Lucy. That scene where they watch the film of Peru and Paddington goes from watching it in wonder, then steps through the screen INTO Peru is visually and emotionally stunning! For a family movie it delves into some serious topics without it being too heavy or compromising the lighthearted and heartwarming feel of the movie. The Paddington movies are my number 1 comfort movies - I love them so much 🥹 Please do Paddington 2!
Nunca he ido tan rápido a ver un video de TH-cam como a ustedes, espero que TH-cam traduzca este pequeño comentario desde una chilena que vive en México, gracias por existir y ser mi refugio. EDIT: thank you for everything (yes, i can write in english, just i want them to know that their videos go all around the world)
1) amazing movie ty for doing this. But also 2) IDK if it's just me but around 22:20 I noticed that their outfits all have a red component to it. Which is a great visual cue that they ARE acting more together as a family. Just a neat detail to pick up on :3
Fantastic movies, a real testament to how family films can actually feel so impactful and important, and a much needed sincerity-flavoured antidote to the tide of aloof cynicism we see in modern times. I might be 30, but there are times I've needed to just let this films break through whatever jaded, distracted way I may have been feeling. Ben Whishaw did an A+ job, and Sally Hawkins is a bloody delight as Mrs Brown, and I don't doubt that Emily Mortimer will do just as good a job. Wholesome, delightful, magical, and the ending to the second cracked me like an egg 😂
My mother loved this movie, she was hard to please when it came to watching TV but she watched this movie and she loved it. We were raised very stoic but I think she liked the message of having a family united and not just iving together in a house. Maybe because for many years in our lives we never had this feeling of unity. She passed away in September and I never felt so lonely in a house, suddenly it feels bigger than I remembered it from my childhood maybe because it is so silent. Still, this movie brings me warmth and joy!! Thanks for the video
I went to London a couple of months after this was released. (I hadn't been since 1991.) My hotel was near Paddington Station, and and the city was celebrating Paddington Bear with various sculptures all over the city. It was so cute! 🥰
Thanks Cinema Therapy! Very much timely after recently feeling extremely sad and lonely. I was reminded of joy and belongingness. Time to rewatch paddington.
I like the commentary on healthy fights at 9:30. My parents "never fight" so to learn what a healthy argument is in a healthy relationship was as rewarding as it was identifying with the title character.
I think one word that can describe Paddington is DELIGHTFUL. I absolutely love the design of these movies. It’s so cozy and colorful and whimsical and it’s a lovely time that reminds me of my childhood. The director for this movie did Wonka as well, I’m a huge fan of Roald Dahl and I hope that when they continue to make movies of his books they make them like how they did Paddington.
Hugh Bonneville was not on Titanic, duder. That mistake aside, loved this episode so much. We have just watched it last week so it was all nice and fresh. Still cried even at this haha
@@phoenixpa Haha, I placed him from Alias but turns out that was also Victor Garber and I haven't seen anything Hugh Bonneville is known for. I bet a lot of people mix them up.
Yeah, I thought they might be confusing him with Bernard Hill or someone. In Downton Abbey his character was related to someone who died on the titanic but that’s all.😄 Still love Alan though. No worries.👍🏻👍🏻
I frequently see Paddington ranked in lists as one of the best films in that "sub-genre" of "live-action family movie with focus on a CGI character". I've yet to see either of them, though. But I only heard good things of both, so... yeah, that's on the must-see list. After this episode, I'm holding out hope for an episode on the Sonic movies eventually. ....Maybe next year depending on whether you'd rather have the third movie as well to talk about.
I have heard of this movie a long time ago but never bother to watch it because I thought I was too old for it. But now that I saw this for real, I really wanted to watch it and the rest of the trilogy. So thank you for introducing me to the Paddington movies, Cinema Therapy!
I have a bone to pick with whoever was responsible for the US trailer of this movie. I had zero desire to see it when that trailer came out. Thankfully a lot of people, both in and out of the public eye, started saying how wonderful it was and I gave it a chance. This and the sequel are some of the most beautiful examples of storytelling out there.
The fact that you guys release this a day before me and my dad take my younger down syndrome brother to see the 3rd one in the cinema is gold! His birthday is tomorrow so it's a surprise for him.
13:14 Just as a note regarding the wooden hand in the mother's handbag and "She needed the hand?" That was an artist's reference prop. Remember she illustrates books and it looks as though she works in a realistic style. Hands can be particularly difficult to draw. You might just think "Why not just look at your own hand?" For one thing, if you need to see your hand from a different angle (like with the pinkie closest to the viewer instead of the thumb). For another thing, it can be awkward drawing the hand you're trying to draw with (repeatedly putting your pencil down and trying to get your hand back into exactly the right pose and then getting your pencil back up and in position, instead of just glancing at something always right in front of you in the correct pose already). I think little posable props like that are awesome and I'm not even an artist myself ^_^
I remember watching a Paddington film with my sisters even if the memory was more like a bear that made orange peel jam and was sent away in a boat. Even if it was a faint memory I still searched for it and loved it when I first watched it. My sisters don’t really do that anymore and I don’t have that kid whimsy as well.
Paddington has a special place in my heart. My Nana was British and loved that bear, she has been to the train station he is named after. I watched the old stop motion tv show with her when I was a cub. With this movie I got to pass on that joy to my son, who Aldo’s fell in love with Paddington! ❤
Someone probably already mentioned this but I realized after watching this video that during the analysis of the 'doll house' scene and the way the camera pans, it reminds me of a Wes Anderson film, only more warm and soft. Regardless, great video and is it bad it's one of the videos I rewatch before bed?
Lol the nick cage movie is actually why my family watched Paddington. We put it on right after we finished the movie and we're absolutely blown away 😭 Paddington 2 was great too
What Jono said about watching movies for leisure and "Oh, I don't have to take notes" was literally me reading a book for leisure after basically only reading stuff for university and I really had to fight the instinct to take notes for a bit 😂
I used to watch the interactive videos of paddington when I was little. And I loved the travel book of paddington. I read it all the time. I watched this movie and felt the fun of my childhood. I love the writing, and I love everything. All of it.
It's emotional 😭 personalities who can't understand or phatham other people having different values. Thinkers personality types can understand how arbitrary values are

The Paddington movies are my number 1 comfort movies - I love them so much 🥹
Please do Paddington 2!
Nunca he ido tan rápido a ver un video de TH-cam como a ustedes, espero que TH-cam traduzca este pequeño comentario desde una chilena que vive en México, gracias por existir y ser mi refugio.
EDIT: thank you for everything (yes, i can write in english, just i want them to know that their videos go all around the world)
Paddington 2 is my comfort film. Whenever I struggle I put it on and it’s like a wonderful hug
Paddington has been one of my favorite characters my entire life. That includes now, as a 47 year old, um, adult. Ish.
Listening to both of you giggle throughout as you watch the film is my new favorite thing.
This fiiiilm ❤️ What a great episode. Would love to see you guys do Paddington 2!
Yay! A Paddington episode!!!!
A beautiful film. Paddington 2 is even better.
I'm definitely a Thinker. I analyse and plan everything and I LOVE being right.
Finally you did this episode 👏
This movie is just magic
Yes!!!
Big bear hugs to you. I hope all turns out well for you.
this is such a awesome channel its like my daily dose of therapy it really relaxes me thank you.
I like the commentary on healthy fights at 9:30. My parents "never fight" so to learn what a healthy argument is in a healthy relationship was as rewarding as it was identifying with the title character.
26:23 should've said "I have been accused of insider trading"
Yes!! Finally! I love the Paddington movies!!❤
I think it's an honest confusion with Victor Garber, who has a similar face.
@@freshwaterlife there was a tv movie on the titanic that did have Hugh in it
Thank you, I got to that part and I was so confused! Haha
Would love to see the live reaction of Jona watching Paddington 2. That movie can break anyone
3:28 Absolutely yessss! I love Sally Hawkins!!!
She's amazing.
Paddington 2 is THE BEST sequel out there!!! WATCH IT! Please ❤
I have heard of this movie a long time ago but never bother to watch it because I thought I was too old for it. But now that I saw this for real, I really wanted to watch it and the rest of the trilogy. So thank you for introducing me to the Paddington movies, Cinema Therapy!
You're very welcome! Enjoy!
I love Paddington!
He's just kind, even when not everyone else is to him. He simply carries on and continues to be kind.🥲
What a birthday gift- how perfect for this to be uploaded today!
@@MutelyMutel Happy Birthday! 🎉 🎂
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!!!

Happy birthday 🎂
I hope they cover Paddington 2!
i love the colour pallet of this movie
I remember watching a Paddington film with my sisters even if the memory was more like a bear that made orange peel jam and was sent away in a boat. Even if it was a faint memory I still searched for it and loved it when I first watched it. My sisters don’t really do that anymore and I don’t have that kid whimsy as well.
Paddington has a special place in my heart. My Nana was British and loved that bear, she has been to the train station he is named after. I watched the old stop motion tv show with her when I was a cub. With this movie I got to pass on that joy to my son, who Aldo’s fell in love with Paddington! ❤
If you watch paddington 2 watch it with Zach Kornfeld from the try guys, he lives for these movies. Collab of the century!!
This movie is the closest thing to cinema chicken noodle soup I have ever seen
Ooh good comparison!
My whole family from my 90 year old dad to my 5 year old nephew adore this movie❤
Someone probably already mentioned this but I realized after watching this video that during the analysis of the 'doll house' scene and the way the camera pans, it reminds me of a Wes Anderson film, only more warm and soft.
Regardless, great video and is it bad it's one of the videos I rewatch before bed?
Please do a video on Paddington 2 and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
This should be an advert, I want to watch Paddington after this.
I think commentary on Casper would be interesting!
After seeing Hugh Bonneville, i would really like to see you guys do something on Downton Abbey
Would love it if you guys did couples or family therapy for The Birdcage🙏
5:45 thank you for helping me understand I’m a thinker😂
Lol the nick cage movie is actually why my family watched Paddington. We put it on right after we finished the movie and we're absolutely blown away 😭 Paddington 2 was great too
Same here! And I'm very glad that I did. Pedro Pascal fucking told us!!
What Jono said about watching movies for leisure and "Oh, I don't have to take notes" was literally me reading a book for leisure after basically only reading stuff for university and I really had to fight the instinct to take notes for a bit 😂
This movie is just a big warm hug fr❤
I would love to see the film 'Arrietty' covered!! (i dont know what you'd do it on, but its the most gosh-darn sweetest film!!) :')
I adore the Peddington movies! 😍
Look, Paddington is great. Paddington 2 is basically my religion.
Right?!
I used to watch the interactive videos of paddington when I was little. And I loved the travel book of paddington. I read it all the time.
I watched this movie and felt the fun of my childhood. I love the writing, and I love everything. All of it.
It's simply the best!
My family and I absolutely love these movies, Paddington is just so adorable and I love how much they feel like a warm hug.
Please analyse the second one too!! These are some of my favourite films!
Cinema Therapy Watching Paddington is the best thing that happened to me today 🧡
Paddington! This is one of my favorite movies ever! Thank you so much for picking this movie!
You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yay Paddington is one of my favorite movies
It's emotional 😭 personalities who can't understand or phatham other people having different values. Thinkers personality types can understand how arbitrary values are
Am I the only one who now wants to see the movies you made? WHAT MOVIES???!!! I MUST SEE!!!
20:43 i knew he was gonna be the hero for her story rhigt from the start!
please give us a cinema therapy on Paddington 2❤❤❤
OOOHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MY FAVOURITE NON-ANIMATED FILM!!!!!
Well...uh... it´s still partially animated I guess BUT IT COUNTS
Seriously as soon as I saw you´d released this video I got SO excited, I finished homework as fast as humanly possible in order to be able to see it and it did NOT disappoint. This movie just lifts me up :,) as someone who travelled to another country when they were very young and had the opportunity to discover the place you belong is not always where you came from, Paddington as a character is so so dear to me. (Also, the scene where he sees his jungle in the old explorer video and is transported there for a minute always makes me tear up. I felt so understood.) And the entire film is so beautifully! sincere! and earnest! I love it to bits and pieces, excellent video!! :D
...I am distressingly good at recognizing Simon Farnaby's voiuce.
When i watched wonka i recognised charlotte ritchie even before she came up in the scene xD
It is a national treasure
I just watched Padington 2 a few days ago and you wont believe how happy and surprised I was when this video was posted ❤😂
Paddington 2 next! It's just really good.
