      @samebdonfilm - I found a set of Lomo standard speeds at a garage sale for $150 each - in the more modern housing. Never bought something so fast lol

    I've got a set of 14+ vintage Nikkors. Just a great lineup of options across the focal lengths. Vintage without being obtuse. Thanks for the video.

    Hell Yeah! I love my set of Nikkors and I don't see myself working with anything else on my own projects. Absolutely beautiful and characterful lenses, sharp without being clinical.
    Loads of filmmaking students my age don't realise that they are an option because they are not told. They are so affordable with better images then most of the photography lenses they are forced to use.
    They also share a lot of the same functionality as cinema lenses, hard focus stops and distance measurements and so on, a great way for upcoming ACs to practice focus.
    They are a joy.

    I want to rehouse my Leica-R lenses, but whitepoint and the others are so expensive for a full rehouse, like $5000-6000 per lens. Are these available for Leica-R?

    • @CineHousing
      @CineHousing 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      We can do housing for Leica R (and pretty much any vintage lens). Just to clarify, what we do is not an actual rehousing. It’s a sleeve type of housing that attaches over the lens. Feel free to DM to discuss more details.

      @@jean-j6y2q hi! They are a mix of the 35mm f/2 and 50mm f/1.4 both wide open, the shot with the two bowing to eachother is on a Nikkor 70-200mm hence the crazy depth but still gorgeous Nikkor glass.

    Already treasuring my AIS lens collection, but from a 35mm photography perspective- I am curious if you have any recommendations for entry/budget camera options for someone looking to expand into cinematography?
    There are so many reviews just recommending the newest, fastest, *priciest* mirrorless cameras on the market, but I wonder if most of these features/tech people pay for will be superfluous when using vintage lenses. Espescially if preferring manual focus/settings is a part of the appeal (in addition to the beautiful textured personality) of vintage glass..
    Any thoughts on this? What is/isn’t needed to get the job done (and done well) but for those just leaning into filmmaking? Thanks!

    • @collinausbury
      @collinausbury  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely. There are so many great options out there for filmmakers. Reviewers are practically pixel peeping at this point. Us as creators/filmmakers have no excuse nowadays to make something look of quality.
      1. I love the Blackmagic line of cameras (any of them) because they're a budget friendly option. I don't need auto focus, I typically don't need internal NDs (although they're always nice), I don't need IBIS because my rig is heavy. And vintage lenses paired with the setup is just killer. You're not buying a camera with features you're not using.
      2. I would recommend learning lighting. Someone can make a shot on any camera or lens look good if they can light. This takes time. People want the solutions now. However this will serve you beyond any quick fix or camera crutch.

    Cool project!
    In my opinion and not to spread confusion, you should differentiate terms clearly. "Rehousing", technically and price-wise, means something completely different than putting a 3D-printed sleeve around a lens. Just saying ;)

  • @willvazquez3218
    @willvazquez3218 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Cinehousing is cool, but all it really does is just make your lens look like a Cine lens, there’s no real rehousing. It’s just a cover for the lens. Although it’s cool, it doesn’t solve the issues that plagues vintage lenses, which is the way the optics shift around when you pull focus and dance all over the place. The only way to fix this is to truly remove the optics and elements and put them in a new solid housing and helicoid.

    • @collinausbury
      @collinausbury  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agreed it doesn’t solve everything, but definitely a way to keep your vintage lenses protected

    Is the 3D Sleeve / Cinehousing solve any issue of weight on barrel when using clamp on mattebox on cinemodded lenses ?

    • @collinausbury
      @collinausbury  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Mine definitely adds some support which means the front isn’t going to dip with a mattebox. So far so good

    I have Nikkor 28mm f2.8 Seies E, 5 lens, perfect contrast for WB. I read many things about bad IQ of this lens, but i think it's good and small with character. I also have 50mm f1.4 ai-s and 105mm f2.5 (damn good!). I plan to buy 35mm f2 (sharp on wide open), this more "leica look" from Nikon, 85mm f1.4, 135mm f2 and 28mm f2.

    • @collinausbury
      @collinausbury  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ve heard hit or miss things on the E series- I think they’re probably great for photography since they’re so small.
      How would you compare picture quality to the AI/AI-S line?

    • @MiFomin
      @MiFomin 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@collinausbury 28, 50 and 100 are good. Mostly the last two are loved, but I have used them and the 28 is just as good. It uses an early version of the 28mm f2.8 D lens.
      It is sharp in the center wide open with minimal spherical aberration. At a short distance it gives a nice creamy swirling bokeh, and at the edges it has an interesting neat 3D glasses effect. The strong point is the five-element design, it lets in a lot of light and conveys tonality and contrast well. The main disadvantage is the very short focusing stroke, from 2 meters to infinity less than a centimeter.
      I still want the 28mm f2 AI-S, but if you can find E glass at a good price it is worth a try.
      I bought this lens for $14 in Thailand.
