Great discussion. I concur with all your comments. My go to lens is my Nikon 28 to 300. It is a little heavy but shooting events I can get extreme closeups without invading the subjects space and still able to get some wide angle shoots in tight spaces.

Oh that is a GREAT lens! I'd have to think super hard to think of a more versatile lens than that one!
