Unlike many commenters, I got fam who played for both island National teams and who then started playing for euro leagues, EVEN IF NOT ON A NATIONAL LEVEL team, simply because they ACTUALLY get paid, lol. 😂
More than a fan would know… Especially certain islands. It’s considered a privilege to play; no pay involved. Stupid for how talented these players are…
Once the players with a brain OR a family to support figures it out, they gone do exactly what WE would do.
Oh, I can actually make $X.xx to play??? Aight bet!
AKA- the reason you see islanders playing for other teams vs their hometown island.
For example- why would you play for another country or culture when you’re one of the best players in the league or in your own country???

There is one thing about rugby that you don't see in many other sports and that's they don't argue with the ref. What he says goes. Football (soccer to our cousins across the pond) on the other hand a player falls over if a light wind passes him by and if the ref doesn't believe him he'll throw a tantrum and start arguing. Regby players seem to have a lot of respect for the ref.

Eben is 100% an enforcer and bakkies was also the enforcer, they play the same role and Eben does the same job as Bakkies but Eben has more rules to apply to not to get carded. SA has always had great physical players but these two sole purpose is to hurt/intimate the other players. Both does and did a great job.

Rugby man... That's why the French are so into it.
It's "soccer" (for the popularity), "football" (because you occasionally kick the ball), but without all the commercial BC that the US added to the game.
Basically, it's a "manly" form of "soccer".
And then "culture"... The after-game is "reconciliation", usually at the local pub.
And like that, as hard the match was, all is well. Yes so-and-so dunked "you" during playtime...
But "he" is amongst the one paying for the beers that afternoon. Just sayin'
Played "college" Rugby 7 years here in France. Best years of my life.

I'll make it clear from the start, this is my perspective only, so don't dis me. I grew up with rugby as our sporting culture. It was different then. It focussed on real skill to win the game. The northern hemisphere countries eventually joined in and the game has slowly become more about who can be the most physically attacking and opposing, about strength, and size, about pure beast like attitudes. There's no skill in that. You could say it's a mirror of how the bigger northern hemisphere countries like to war with each other. Has sport now become war on the field? Maybe it always was, only NZ and Australia didn't get the memo back in the day. 🤷‍♀️

I love NFL; American football is my preferred sport... but as a French guy I have I do think that rugby players are better tackler than the NFL players.
This is due to the fact that they don't have protections (helmet and shoulder pads) so they rely purely on their strength and tackle fundamentals.
How many time I saw and still see NFL players just diving.. throwing their body toward a player.. that doesn't exist is rugby as without protection you don't tackle with your "head first"...

Farrell wasn't trying to smash him though, he was going for a choke tackle so his team mates could join in support and try to force a maul to hold the ball up and either slow it down or win a scum. Genge plays with him for England and knew what to expect, so it failed.
