Best ending is *S* but it varies. If you check the first shower, Laura is dead and Ann is the one you find knocked out in the Clock Tower. If you don't look in the shower, then Bobby drops down from the stain-glass window in the ceiling, impaling Ann with his scissors. So Laura takes Ann's place in the Clock Tower. No matter what you do, only you and Laura *OR* Ann survive.

C is my favorite. It seems the most cinematic of all of them and the stakes just seem highest. (Despite them being the same as basically all the others.)
Such machinery is EXTREMELY loud. Mental disorders like Paranoia are usually accompanied by fear of loud noises. When Bobby hears the gears churning his only thought was to shut it out and get away from the noise. It's also a karmic thing. Turning the clocktower back on represents restoring the natural order. Bobby, being an evil supernatural being, cannot withstand the paradigm shift.
Ending C was the best one it just had so much more build up. Thinking of someone grabbing your leg on a high ladder is a freaky thought.. Clock Tower is the best horror game in history. I don't usually get scared by horror games but this freaked me out.
Actually its because since the clocktower wasn't active he (somehow) achived immortality. But when Jennifer tuened it back on he lost it and all the diseases he had got to him and he walked off the balcony by mistake. Hope this answers your question :)
For those of you wondering why Dan was inside that cocoon of his, here's the answer: -You see, in order to prevent the children from dying before their bodies could cure themselves of their deformities and become perfect, Mary cast a spell over the manor by stoping the Clock Tower, thus stoping time for her children and prevent them from dying. Unfortunately for her, even though uncapable of dying, they were also unable to mess with their bodies. Dan knew this, and by using the sacrifices his mother gave him, he created a shell with the exact same form he had when he was a baby in order to trick the spell and have time be allowed to run throught him inside of his "armor". That's why he's not deformed in "Clock Tower 2". Because thanks to the gift of time, he managed to heal his body. Also, that's why Bobby was the only one affected by the sound of the Clock Tower while Jennifer was ok with it. His disease made him have an EXTREMELY sensitive hearing, so, when time started moving once more, all of the symptoms present in his body restarted working too.
This information is available on a multiple ending book that retells the story of the second game, which the translated version is available for reading online. I strongly recommend reading it, because it makes you understand this universe's story in full, and the creativeness and symbolism present in it solidified my love for this saga.

Jennifer for example only has her Barlow heritage take over her in certain routes because of her psychiatrist's hypnosis and obessession in figuring out the truth behind the first game's case. The thing is, hypnosis isn't a way of gaining full control over someone. Merely a way to remove certain filters. Which means a part of Jennifer wanted to be like the rest of the Barlowe family, because it was in her DNA; -The immortality promised by the God that brought the Barlows into the world... The bodies are always reanimated, but the wounds remain and the flesh rots. That might symbolize how life's quality requires more than the flesh being alive, something MANY people seem to forget for some reason; -The magic used to preserve Dan and Bobby might represent how we are gaining control over our individual biological times and how otherwordly and magical that might look and be, if we take the time to think about it. I know this might be a bit far fetched, but these are the interpretations I took.

Dialogue has never been a requirement of horror, and some of the scariest games I recall date back to the Commodore or Spectrum, and they weren't even horror games, nor could they use much sound at all. So long as something can immerse you in some way, it can draw your feelings and emotions. Most modern horror relies on cheap jumpscares these days, so people eventually become attuned. Games are great because you interact with them, whereas you can only WATCH a movie. There's a lot of interactive horror games like Clock Tower out there - and I wouldn't call them 'scary', but tense and intriguing.

the PSX port version of this game is named the first fear and the sequel was named only CLOCK TOWER that's what makes people confused first fear is enchanched version of this game for ps 1 pretty much but sadly its only in japanese , good thing there is a patch for the english now
I know that the canonical ending is the one where Jennifer is the sole survivor of the ordeal, but which one is it? Ending A feels like such a cop out, because last second Mary just hurls Anne off the tower. Also, I find it interesting that the best ending isn't the one considered canon in the sequel.
Endings A, B, and C are considered the canonical endings, since all three involve Jennifer being the Sole Survivor of the event. It's never explicitly stated which one of those 3 isn't canon. Clearly Ending S isn't canon, since at least one of Jennifer's friends survive.

How to get each ending (taken from whoisthisgit's Creepy Bad Endings #17) To get ending S, you'll need to find secret room before being captured and speak to Lotte in the cave. Try not to discover Laura or Ann dead. Free the crow. Go to floor 3. Ending A has same requirements, except you need to be thrown into the cell rather than find secret room. To get ending B, get thrown into the cell or find the secret room and let both Laura and Ann die earlier on. To get ending C, get thrown in the cell or find the secret room. Laura or Ann's fate doesn't matter. Go to floor 2 instead of 3. Do everything you can to avoid Mary. Throw her away from ladder by tapping B button. To get ending D, don't get thrown in the cell or find the secret room. Make sure to speak to Lotte in the cave and go to floor 2. Ending E has same requirements. Only difference is to go to floor 3 instead. To get ending F, don't get thrown in the cell and don't speak to Lotte in the cave. To get ending G, find the car and the car key. As for Jennifer not questioning Edward a lot of her memories of this were suppressed due to the trauma, which is why Professor Barton kept hypnotizing her. She doesn't remember everything unless you get the best ending in Clock Tower 2.
Well, mostly if you try to drive away from the house (That is, repeatedly using the Car Key in the Car). Which ending you see usually depends on how many of Jennifer's friends you have seen die before you drive off.

The cannonic is the ending C i think, because in that ending, Jennifer knows the names of the Scissorman and the Giant Baby.
Santi_Lee Jennifer meets the giant baby in every ending except for H and G. That Giant Baby's name is Dan, he's the one who becomes the Scissorman in the second game.

Ok I came here from JonTron's vid about this game and when I was checking the comments apparently he got the S ending without him knowing. S ending, in my knowledge, one of the hardest endings to achieve. I just wanna ask if it was truly hard to achieve this said ending
As soon as I saw the scissor man came out if shower I was like fuck it and drove away...
I think that ending C may be the canon one. Because unless I'm wrong, I think it's the only time that Dan is mentioned by name. It'd make sense for the big reveal in the sequel.

Played this game pretty extensively as a kid. I thought I unlocked all the endings, but it turns out I've never seen endings A, D, E, or G before!
Why does the clock tower cause Scissorman to freak out again? I vaguely remember something about "time will cause adherence" or something like that written down by Mr Barrows. It's been over 20 years since I played this game.

How to get each ending (taken from whoisthisgit's Creepy Bad Endings #17)
To get ending S, you'll need to find secret room before being captured and speak to Lotte in the cave. Try not to discover Laura or Ann dead. Free the crow. Go to floor 3.
Ending A has same requirements, except you need to be thrown into the cell rather than find secret room.
To get ending B, get thrown into the cell or find the secret room and let both Laura and Ann die earlier on.
To get ending C, get thrown in the cell or find the secret room. Laura or Ann's fate doesn't matter. Go to floor 2 instead of 3. Do everything you can to avoid Mary. Throw her away from ladder by tapping B button.
To get ending D, don't get thrown in the cell or find the secret room. Make sure to speak to Lotte in the cave and go to floor 2.
Ending E has same requirements. Only difference is to go to floor 3 instead.
To get ending F, don't get thrown in the cell and don't speak to Lotte in the cave.
To get ending G, find the car and the car key. Enter the car three times. You need to witness two of the other girls dying. If you see all three die, the car disappears.
To get ending H, escape in the car after seeing only one girl die.
when bobby comes into the elevator at 8:40 you cant see him on top with your x ray vision. me and my sis were goofing off in art class doing a play (assignment - act out a horror movie or game but re do it) and we did this and we were having bobby with safety scissors and mary was like "bobby! Dont run with scissors!" and we give him safety scissors. lol

Just played this for the first time ever... I got ending D... 🤦 I Didnt expect the elevator to lock behind me, that was still so much I wanted to explore, but I was trapped my fate was sealed and the bitch stabbed Jennifer. Damn the shock hit me hard. Lol

***** I find it unlikely that any of them will survive, in an ending where Jennifer doesn't. Even having a second survivor takes very specific decision making, and as such, is highly unlikely. So if Jen doesn't survive, it's fair to assume nobody does.

Y'know, despite apparently being cut viciously in ending F, Jennifer can sure keep a very content face.
Must be the one of the most scary horror games for snes or perhaps any console. Glad i didn't play this as a little sh1tkid lol. I'm a completionist and like to finish things too.
@NewVegasBorder Clock Tower 2 takes place one year later, not five. As for Jennifer not questioning Edward a lot of her memories of this were suppressed due to the trauma, which is why Professor Barton kept hypnotizing her. She doesn't remember everything unless you get the best ending in Clock Tower 2.
Always remember to check the back seat of your car. Ya never know if you maybe carrying a unexpected passenger.
Well, mostly if you try to drive away from the house (That is, repeatedly using the Car Key in the Car).
Which ending you see usually depends on how many of Jennifer's friends you have seen die before you drive off.
