Check out my Lets Plays and whatnot. They're pretty lame but do it anyway OKAY? • 31 Days, 31 Horror Gam... --- Various character death scenes from the SNES horror game CLOCK TOWER. [Spoiler Warnings]
Lotte is sick. It's so sad you can't do anything to help her. She's Jennifer's best friend and the only one that comes in clutch with that key, and the advice on how to kill the Barrow Brothers.
The scariest thing about Mary's switchboard death is the fact that Jennifer's portrait replaces hers with the words "I will kill you!!" still left beside it. And then she just... Walks away. No emotion.
"Time will cause adherence", one of the notes you find in the game, sorta explains it, as does Walter's note. The babies should have died, but because Mary stopped the clock tower and time at her house for some reason, so fate is stopped. When Jennifer starts the clock again, time starts again, thus Bobby's fate catches up with him. Dan survives because he was creating an inner shell from the kids he was eating (Probably got his hair from Laura, lol)
@@starry7027 and thats why you should be given a choice: try to save Ann or just wait. In first case Jennifer dies, in 2nd lives, that would be very interesting and logical
This game is the proof that epic horror games don't need great graphics nor a lot of gore (but it's a plus though). A solid programming and a great story is good enough to make you sleepless for days.
I think its pretty cool how in a couple of the endings Mary really likes to SWITCH it up. What a shocking twist! It was so lightning quick. I was totally thunderstruck. It really fries me up that she didn't die sooner though. Would have bolted through the game faster I bet. Mary didn't even go out with a bang, just a crackle and pop.
Omg the deaths involving Mary are the funniest. I love when she just randomly appears out of nowhere and then pushes Ann off the platform lmao. And her scream when she falls off the ladder is super hilarious too.
Damn. I kept trying to see if there was any endings where all of the sisters could live. Thanks for posting your comment. I know it's 14 years old, but still lol.
When I first saw Ann in the pool a while ago, I was like "Wow Jennifer you should save her... you're horrible!" Then Bobby jumped out an it's like "OHHHH... good choice Jennifer!" If you think about it, the chances of anybody in a game drowning simply because they can't swim is slim and none unless it's part of the character's history with bad swimming. Laura's death in the shower... this is why I now have transparent curtains.
Do we know how exactly Laura died in the shower scene? She doesn't react when Jennifer says her name, hinting that she's already dead, but there's no blood and she appears to be hanging by her wrists.
laura always dies offscreen while ann's deaths happen in front of jennifer. i read somewhere a long time ago that they kill laura with demon magic, similar to lotte's demise in the cave
I love how after Mary fries on the switchboard, Jennifer just turns and goes outside to stare at the sky. No panting at having almost been choked to death, no checking to make sure Mary was dead...just "Welp, I'm going out now."
Clock Tower was ALWAYS scary. Every one of them. You would be walking around trying to figure out how to beat the level, and then, you would hear Scissorman's music. And tehn you're like: "AWWW FUCK ME!!!!!" time to go hi
I played a lot of classic games over my days, ranging all the way back to the atari. There aren't many classics I have missed, but this game is obviously amazing. I played clocktower on the playstation and its been special to me since.
I believe the sound of the bells drove him mad somehow. I can't remember, but it seems to me that this was explained in more detail in some of the promotional materials that were released alongside the game. What bothers me more, though, is that Bobby is killed by falling into the clock's gears, yet Dan can survive multiple trips off massive cliffs in CT2. Questionable!
@BalthaxZelda Mary adopted Jennifer and her friends, giving them the impression that they were "wanted as adopted daughters" (according to the Japanese Playstation version). But in reality, they were to be demonic sacrifices to Bobby, who is Scissorman in this game. :)
The first game is based on the works of Italian horror director Dario Argento. It contains elements of many of his films. Think of it as a love letter from Hifumi Kono to Argento :) You are correct that Jennifer is specifically based on Jennifer Connolly. Interestingly, Helen Maxwell of CT2 is based on Gillian Anderson of the X-Files (though she always reminded me more of Virginia Madsen, who played Helen in Candyman) :D
The sprite may not be designed based on the actress, but only inspired by her. There are some sources that claim the sprites were of an intern that worked at Human Entertainment. Her outfit was not even planned. Take with a grain of salt
Call me morbid, but I always did kind of giggle due to a couple of things from the game. Such as Ann's death at 0:22. The mouth for Ann's icon still moves when she says 'glub glub glub'. Kinda like she's just sitting in a pool pretending to be a fish. Then Lotte's running at 2:09. We're doin' the cha-cha!
Great video! I finally got to see the window death scene, which for some reason I have been unable to get while playing. There are two more death scenes that I am aware of, one with Ms. Mary on top of the clocktower, and Dan's explosive encounter with the kerosene.
@MaijinMando Officially, according to Clock Tower: The First Fear (the sequel for the Playstation One), Jennifer is the only one who made it out alive. Miss Mary died at the top of the Clock Tower, all of Jennifer's friends were murdered by Scissorman (Bobby) or Mary, and Simon Barrows is unaccounted for but presumed dead. Jennifer is pursued by a different Scissorman in the sequel. :)
@nikoOocroft It's not adequately explained in any scene in the game, but apparently Bobby (the scissorman) is driven mad by the sound of the clock tower. There are a couple notes in the game (one in the ceremony room right before the caves and one in the library) that say "Time will cause adherence", which I guess is supposed to be a hint to turn on the clock tower, but only Lotte's cave death scene directly says to switch the clock tower on, and nobody ever says why.
Golden chainsaw for coolest kill will go to ann in the celling Her death was so sudden and scared the f out of me and her slow mo fall was really creepy and in the same time kinda majestic Dull machete for lamest kill will go to Ann in the pool She could've easily been saved if Jennifer wasnt such a duck
She was and remember that Bobby has immense strength for a ten year old (due to him being a psychopath killer with the powers of satan) So yes she should've helped her...But you probably would've gotten a dead end on that.
It's so sad, that either one of Jennifer's friends (Ann and Laura) must dies. Player must leave Laura or Ann dying after saving someone them. It's only happen in S-ending. This is the vice versa. =(
I feel so bad for Jennifer, she finds out what really happens to her father, she loses her friends and most importantly she never got a release in North America .
They should remake this game, like it has so much potential. But this time we should be able to control Jennifer and move around with her, it’d be like until dawn except we could move around more freely
Not gonna lie when Ann was thrown out of the window it horrified me And when Mary threw Ann and Laura off the clock tower it enraged me someone please tell me how do you get a good ending where at least one person survives.
EnderEthan 14 there is ending s where either Laura or Ann lives. But it’s mainly up to your choices with what happens. If you go back to the main hall Ann dies and Laura is the survivor in ending s. If you check the shower and find Laura dead Ann is the one with you.
Hey guys, stop hating Jen for not helping Ann, okay!? First, it’s just a part of the story. Second, the man was probably dragging Ann down, and Jen didn’t _want_ to die, so she didn’t reach into the water. Just my guess. Please no hate.
Lol the switchboard one, I thought she'd atleast be screaming but the I will kill you message just stays, it starts making sense when you see Jennifer's face. Hints she's definetly traumatized.
@AdmireRoxtars Try the sequel for the Playstation One, Clock Tower: The First Fear. I think you'll be pleasantly suprised. Graphically speaking, the game holds up really well over time.
@nikoOocroft The good news is that the Clock Tower scene is automatic, so you actually don't have to know anything and Jennifer will still try to active the Clock Tower.
@TheScorpionMK37 This might be old but you're wrong. Remember the poem in the game: "Time will cause adherence"? According to the director, Mary had cast a spell on the manor to keep Bobby and Dan unaffected by Time thus making them immortal for they were demons. Switching the clock tower on broke the spell, making Bobby vulnerable again and driving him mad. This didn't affect Dan because he had fully matured inside his baby-like "cocoon" made of Bobby's and Mary's victims.
@AdamX222 incorrect, there is an ACTUAL ending where Jennifer is murdered by Mary (ending D), two where she is killed by Bobby in the elevator (endings E and F), and one where she is killed in her car (ending H), and i think one where she goes back to the orphanage and either commits suicide or is killed by Bobby. (G? not sure)
@TheScorpionMK37 It's sticks to games that make you feel helpless therefore you feel the adrenaline of survival and environmental help instead of simple defense
when I played this, and saw that your character seems to forget she has arms in the pool area, I laughed like hell, seriously, it was the funniest thing I'd seen in years. (blub blub)
@samusmex Lessee, she had been murdering their kin in satanic rituals and one of them only escaped because Jennifer let him out. They were taking out their revenge on her.
@OpticalFascism apparently not, looking at the sprite from full view (where you can see the tub itself) It looks to be the typical shallow tub. Not a swimming pool. 6- how'd you come to that conclusion? the room she falls from is dark. She probably never saw him coming.
I think Jennifer ends up in the cage after either fainting in the kitchen, or drinking Mary's wine. I'm not sure but I think it's one of those. Make sure you get a ham from the kitchen before going to the cage or else the old man (Mary's husband) will eat you O_o
drinking her wine leads to the cage, how ever you can find a secret room which shows you early on that mary is the bad guy and you wont drink the wine but you have to run from mary as she will try to kill you. But you dont even need to encounter mary to finish the game.
There is one ending where ONE of the girls can survive (Except Lotte; She's pretty screwed). This is the S ending and it's a real pain in the ass to get if you don't have a guide.
If Laura is not dead, there's three ways I think, in the room where Laura is supposed to die and get stuffed into the knight suit Ms Mary gives you the poison wine(and I think you cant find the secret room yet either), if you dont have the insecticide and go to kitchen and pass out in the meat locker you end up in the cage, and I believe you can also knock down the plastered wall in the west wing(and I think that triggers Lotte being killed on the ladder heading up to clock tower)
This is probably the only Virtual Console game that had release in Japan exclusively that needs to be worldwide. This would probably be the first survival horror game I'd have the guts to play.
@Kibbletts I don't think she is either (If you mean the shower scene anyway) ,but I think people are getting that impression from the water getting absorbed up her dress high in the front and back and sort of low at the hip.
Ann:
"Jennifer... help...glub..."
Jennifer:
"Ann!" *stare*
