  • How to Sublimate an Image to Aluminum!
    After getting a few requests for more videos on Sublimation Transfer printing, I decided to show you how I go about to Sublimate Images on to ALUMINUM Plate that has been coated for sublimation.
    I am using a 4 color ( CMYK ) EPSON WF 1100 leaded with a CISS with Precisioncolors Sublimation inks.
    Printed the transfer letting the driver control color and choosing Presentation Matte for the paper and PHOTO quality.

    You just showed us something that is usually hidden from our eyes. Many labs in my country won't even tell you what machine they used to achieve this. You're a gem of TH-camr, really. Than you. Actually sublimation is one of the ways to produce aluminum prints. You can also use inkjet coated aluminum which can be printed on any printer featuring a straight media path. They require some post treatment such as varnishing and lamination to protect them. None of that is required when you sublimate to aluminum.

      It's a pretty large commitment as you need dedicate a printer only for sublimation and never go back to common inks. As well as a good reliable heat press and possibly a mug heat press as well.

    Hi Jose, I just got in the digi coat spray for sublimation. I believe its the same layer coating that they apply on the aluminum sheet you got there. I'm gonna apply the the spray on the bottle openers i have so i can sublimate a photo on to it. Will keep you posted. Plus i been rearranging my Computer room to place my new toys...lol. I ordered the white and clear glossy in 32 ounce bottles.
      I will apply it to so called subway ceramic tiles which are about 4x8". They will be perfect landscapes, as.well as wedding party group shots. It should be about 3-4 days till it arrives. I will be trying my air brush but I don't know if it will be to viscous. I might have to use a hand spray bottle of a wide camel hair brush.

    I’m debating planning on buying an old dry heat press off of Craigslist, there’s some 350’s around for cheap but I think half of my use would be sublimating my photos on to aluminum. Will the process work if the max temp only goes up to 350 degrees? Here’s hoping!!

  • @LeviBulger

    Hi Jose, I don't know if you'll see this, but i was wondering if these sublimation machines would be ok to transfer onto an aluminum enclosure, used in small electronics (basically an aluminum box, that are typically about 1.5 inches tall and just a few inches width x length). It would barely use any of the heating surface, which is why I'm wondering if that's ok or if the surface of the heatingheating plate needs to come down all the way and cover most of the area it presses. Thanks!

    great work...my suggestion is you should make a jig to always lay it straight in the middle of those pictures without you having to do any measuring...just let it land in the middle ...im a woodworker and think it should be very easy to make it and will save you tons of time and effort ....thats assuming you will be doing lots and lots more prints this way.

    Hi Jose, thanks for all your great work for us photo printers. I currently sell my photos printed on a Canon Pro 10, with edits using LR & PS. I'm considering adding metal photo prints to my offerings. Not interested in conversion printers. Looking at the Epson SureColor F170 purpose made sublimation printer as a entry level sub printer vs. the Sawgrass 500. I'm primarily intersested in metal prints. The Sawgrass has very expensive ink, but is the Epson F170 have enough resolution to make a good print on 8.5x11. Sawgrass has more resolution but cost more on several levels. I looked at the Epson F570, great print size, and resolution but huge jump in price from the F170. Haven't seen a review of the F170 on your channel. Your thoughts? Thanks again for your work.

Alternatively, how can we print images on acrylic materials that are not suitable for sublimation? Thanks in advance.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nothing special other than you need an EPSON printer loaded with refillable carts loaded with suimation inks. Driver setting are presentation matte at high quality and you let the driver control color. You also have to either manually mirror the image or set the driver to do it. Remember that you will sandwich the transfer print face to face onto the substrate. Thus the need to mirror the image.
