A coach has “to coach” I agree. However, a coach needs to be given the weapons on the ice to make it work. Sweeney is paying Ferrari money for Prius players. He overpaid for Zadorov. He overpaid for Lindholm. I would hope Swayman starts earning his money soon because 12 goals in 2 games (team play notwithstanding) is appalling considering his contract. Everybody in that locker room needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. Sweeney did what GM’s do and fired the coach to save his a$$. If this team doesn’t turn it around he needs to be the next departure.
i am a huge critic of both Neely and Sweeney,.but, many ,many GM"S overspent on July 1st. not many will give any discounts. that is why they become UFA"S, and get to July sit.
Don Sweeney spent 20 minutes blaming the players and nobody else. Who built that roster and specifically this weak forward core? Who gave $20 million to players who have contributed absolutely nothing? This is a 3 part brigade. And you can’t fire the players. Hell, you can’t even trade them when every single one of them has a no movement clause. This guy’s lack of accountability is honestly amazing. Cam is right there with him. He’s fired THREE Jack Adams winning coaches! Two completely opposing styles in the span of two years…. If the Bruins fail to make the playoffs, they’re all gone, and there won’t be any excuses for them now.
Do You really think Monty was a Jack Adams coach?? I couldve coached the 2023 Bruins. Monty blew it vs the Panthers twice and he still almost got away with it if Marchand scores on the last minute breakaway in gm 5. Julien was done, it wasnt working anymore...they needed a change, now Cassidy? yea, I didnt agree with that, but I heard he was butting heads with Bergy that was a no no. Speaking of Bergy, how about him as the Bruins Coach?
Sounds like you’re reading into things that nobody said here. First of all they literally won the award so that doesn’t really matter. Obviously, he was gifted the best roster in the history of the salary cap era. Again, something was not mentioned or talked about at all lol. Absolutely nobody here is saying that he was not a huge part of this problem. We simply find it ridiculous that management avoids all accountability when they share an equal role as much as the coaches and the players, who can’t even be traded…. due to decisions made by management. The facts are these players have got two great coaches canned in two years and that doesn’t reflect well on them or the management that built the team, even if Monty was always going to be the first domino to fall, and quite frankly, probably should’ve gotten fired after the Bruins choked to Florida.
So just for the record, I’m not a Sweeney basher and I’ve actually been really supportive of him for the past few seasons, but he had a bad off-season and needs to own it if the Bruins miss the playoffs. I watched this entire press conference, and he spoke exactly ONE sentence where he even alluded towards any responsibility on his part. This is his last bullet man. Cam too
Well said , can't agree with you more. They failed to scout and draft properly . Couldn't find a young centreman with years to prepare for the replacement of Bergi and Krecj. Sweeneys trying to turn 3rd line players into top 2 line guys. The teams been too easy to shut down for years now and Sweeney is still trying to find Dmen. We need goal scorers and play makers dumb ass . Don't know it the Jacobs have what it takes to replace one or both of these guys.
Players need to perform. Management has built on paper a good roster so far it's not playing to its best so far this season. Players just need to be better
The problem is effort. Monty could not get them to skate their ass off like a gm 7. sweeney is saying if you dont skate yourass off...your gone! So we are going to find out if they are just not good enough, or they just did not like playing under Monty. I never liked getting rid of Cassidy, but I think that had to do with Bergy. Now Bergy and cassidy are gone, so we shall see, but its great to see Sweeney aint gonna have it.
It wasn't a secret: 1 - Monty's system didn't fit the roster and he wasn't going to adapt 2 - you can't fire the players Regardless of anything else, Monty had to go.
based on the trades and pick-ups the Bruins idea of good hockey is get bigger, size does not equate greatness. Neeley and Sweeney need to go. the players replies are all canned replies they are told not to dissent from the front office
Cassidy was still the best choice for this team. I'm so happy he won a cup in Las Vegas. Should of been Boston. They should of traded every bit*h in that locker room that cried Cassidy was Tuff on them.
First of all, the Bruins had a "flat training camp?" Who allowed that and why wasn't it addressed at that time? Isn't camp supposed to be where team mentalities are set for the season?
Don Sweeney needs to go, because he's a terrible evaluator of talent and I'm not surprised at the least. Jim Montgomery is the scapegoat, and this roster is joke. I'm not laughing.
I took a whole lot of heat for saying Lindholm was nothing more than a second line centre at best. Now we see what he is we have to find a way to get a real center.
The bruins are only 1 game under 500 and they have not even played 25 games yet.but none of it matters you wont see a cup in boston for another 35 years so get use too it boston
As long as there is hockey, coaches will be fired. I was not too fond of the musical chair with the lines. How do you ever find chemistry? It was Monty's go-to position. Now the players are under the gun. No one to take the hit if they don't get their act together.
Bottom line is they have gutted the team. Can't fire the coach what the heck people they are supposed to be pros not junior players lay the blame where it needs to be players. No accountability no downside contracts keep getting bigger hello wake up
Sensationalistic bullshit … the fact that Monty had offers on the table is not news … it happens .. it’s business … Monty is a good guy and a good coach … the team let him down and Debrusk and Heinen are not tearing it up with their new teams … teams start tuning coaches out … it happens .. let’s move on
I am sooo glad Vancouver didn't resign Lindholm, his play here was unimpressive and I think he's way over-rated. Would have liked to have kept Zadarov though, great character and if he gets out of his current slump he is a monster to play against. The coach almost always pays for managements mistakes.
Big bad bruins style is washed up in the nhl? I’d say Florida was bigger and badder and they beat us out twice, St. Louis was bigger and badder and they beat us out. Tampa was bigger and badder and they took us out. All three of those teams knocked us out of the playoffs and ended up winning the cup.
@@TheNicholaas speed, skill and toughness is all needed. Speed alone kills until you go in the playoffs and run picks and obstruction. I think Florida won more because of toughness. Edmonton is faster than Florida and they lost.
Man, those Jacobs have a blind faith in Sweeney and Neely, don’t they? This is what a decade’s worth of mostly contending clubs buys you, I guess. Probably doesn’t hurt in the profit margins, either of consistently sold-out regular season crowds and some playoff revenue. But sooner or later the glare of accountability has to turn towards them from the big bosses on high. No idea when. Through this episode, Sweeney still sits in the catbird seat. He’s GM so that’s his long-standing spot. Charlie Jacobs even opened last spring’s post-playoff presser with words to the effect of “First of all, I support Cam and Don in their efforts to bring a Cup to Boston and our loyal fans.” Something like that after expressing his profound disappointment. That effectively blunted any inquiries about their status after another playoff defeat. The sacking of Monty covers his behind and Neely’s for a sustained period of undetermined length. He assembled this club, likely in concert with Neely and their mandate to become bigger, sturdier and in his own words, “cause anxiety on the forecheck.” Sweeney gave the product to Montgomery with the expectation of presumably no less than maintaining their contender status. The Bruins played like a contender, all right but for a lottery pick. Next summer, these two guys will hire another head coach. No idea what the state of the team will be then. I’m wondering what realm of culpability could spur a scene of either of the Jacobs sitting at a grindstone in their office, sharpening a large, wooden-handled axe then leaning over to his office intercom and instructing an administrative assistant to “Send Cam and Don in here, please?”
Sweeney should have been the first to be fired. He is a poor judge of talent, totally bungled the Swayman contract, and grossly overpaid for the current roster. He would screw up a two car funeral and certainly shouldn't be entrusted with rebuilding this team now. Sad future for the B's.
Monty was to friendly with the players, coaching needs to be hard and the players need to earn their spot. The players weren't on board with his style, When Berg was there he kept them moving and if you didnt he let you know, all the players lost touch with how they played when Berg was Captain. Jim had the best regular season tools in history two playoffs ago and he single handedly messed it all up.

Well the coach can't complain no matter what. He has to coach every player to excel. Now I think firing the coach was good.

If we're gonna do this whole rebuild plan, Sweeney is one of the ones that needs to go first. with Neely to follow shortly after.
Now the spotlight is shining bright on Sweeney and Neely.
I'm not sure the Bruins are all that great on paper.
Is it time to think about a rebuild?????? We've had a good run last 10 15 years
Tank the season 🙌 Briuns take the number 1 pick. Don't let Red Wings get it. Rebuild Bruins.
Since the C was put on the new jersey, the team took the attitude of that player.

He's a joke elephant 🐘 on skates.elias another bum.8 million players disgusting
The teams that win the cup are big gritty, tough & scary. Ie Florida, Tampa, Vegas (they were huge when they won the cup)
Jim's gonna go get a Cup with another team like Cass... bad decision from the B's org...
I agree
I doubt it. He's not that good of a coach.
Im cheering for him.

Mont has two records. One for most reg season points other for most too many men penalties in playoffs😂
Right? Monty let the team coach itself last year, he says, why take over and ruin it? Let them coach themselves and grab another jack adams
First of all, the Bruins had a "flat training camp?" Who allowed that and why wasn't it addressed at that time? Isn't camp supposed to be where team mentalities are set for the season?
..and Monty hardly played the starters in preseason and gave most of them the last preseason game off even though many of them were out of shape.
Too much line juggling, but pp ok are terrible but why? In the end it's not the coach it's all one the players and gm
Don Sweeney needs to go, because he's a terrible evaluator of talent and I'm not surprised at the least. Jim Montgomery is the scapegoat, and this roster is joke. I'm not laughing.
Monty was a winning coach. So he took the fall for players who should have been fired in his stead. How about we fire Marchand and Don Sweeney?
rebuild so much talent in providence.
Sweeny and Kneely need to go sorry ! Not Monty’s fault !!!!

Great effing job
Neely and Sweeney suck
