  • It's the final day of Exploring Richloam WMA. We tracked the route out over several days, and now it's time to proof the separately tracked out sections to see if we can tackle it as a complete route. The goal of the Exploring Richloam series has been to find a path through Richloam WMA from the southeast entrance to the northwest ending off at the Richloam General Store. It is the first completed section of a four-section larger project to put together an overland route around central Florida. This day of proofing was exceptionally challenging as it took place just after the rainy season that comes with summer.
    We hope you've enjoyed this journey and welcome you to our website to explore the now completed Richloam portion of the Wild Sunshine Trail as a free and downloadable track.

    Been there many times. The water level and no-bottom mud is real! Do not go alone or without a winch. Can't wait to see the route.

    Wading thru that deep water, man, really need to watch for the gators, especially if they are under!!

    I enjoyed this video, as a hunter in the south east I can relate to this type of driving..

    You are more cautious than I am. Yet I carry every spare part tools and knowledge of how to fix my 1948 Jeep willy overland truck.

      Thanks brother, sorry we never made it work out having you join us. It’s been incredibly difficult to get these trips scheduled out and most of the time we just leave on a whim. Thanks for still following the adventures!

    At 13:51 that spot is where I broke the right front axle shaft on my hunting truck. If you stay to the south side it isn't as deep.

    This does look fun. I did Citrus a couple months ago and loved it, but have not done Richloam. Also, amazing editing.

    I'll be afraid I'll hydrolock my truck on some of those trails! 😬

      It’s definitely one of the risks out in the swamps for sure! It’s one of the reasons we felt we needed to include bypasses for anyone who wanted to check out Richloam on our trail but opt out of the more risky parts.

    Had a blast wheeling yesterday, brother.
    Your content is great! Keep up the good work.
    This route looks like a lot of fun, something one could do solo in a weekday?

      Thanks! This first Richloam portion is doable in half a day. When we complete the other three sections of it it will take about 2-3 day and take you around all the best places to wheel around central Florida.

    Nice video man. ? Would you say it's safe for a 2wd exploer out there are there any rds like tosohatchee WMA or would you say four-by-four is recommended?

    For those who want to try this. Going with one vehicle and alone is insane. I ride there in the evenings. A few times a month I find people stuck with no cell service. Trust me you dont want to hike 10 miles through the pitch black in gator country.

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  ปีที่แล้ว

      💯 agree with you. The route we are putting together has bypasses available for those seeking to check out Richloam in a much safer way. We also wouldn’t recommend anyone go out alone like we did. It’s a big risk and we always recommend bringing a buddy out to Richloam.

    I’m curious about the snorkels that I have seen on videos. I’ve not seen anyone get deep enough for needing a snorkel. I go into 4.5 feet deep of water and haven’t needed a snorkel yet.

    • @SunshineStateVikings
      @SunshineStateVikings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Adding a snorkel helps reduce the risk of engine damage. We drove offroad for years in Florida going through water before we decided to eventually add it. Surprisingly there is more than just water crossings where you get the benefit from. Driving on dusty trails is actually the issue we had that made us add this upgrade to adding a snorkel. We had dirt, dust and sand buildup like crazy on our engine air filter partially due to the Tacoma design where the air intake was in the tire well. We think that anyone riding on dusty trails or even through deep water could benefit from the reduced risk that a snorkel provides. In reality a snorkel is absolutely not needed but it is a small investment which can prevent a huge financial hit like we took before adding the snorkel.

    Just attempted the route. Amazing route but both loops are extremely wet and had to turn around

      Thank you for the feedback. We can definitely see that after the year we have had with rain, that Richloam would be super saturated. The conditions of Richloam correlate heavily with the water table.

      @@SunshineStateVikings yes there was a lot of water in all of the trails. But nonetheless very cool route and channel!
