Andersen makes damn good windows. My Mother has almost all Casement crank outs and fixed and these are huge beautiful 400 windows. Everyone goes by her country home and compliments her on these windows when they see her. The front windows her brother installed for her 24 years ago. They look perfect today except some interior wood fade which is normal. Her new addition has 6 windows all the same casement Andersen and they are 13 years old and no problems. These newer ones have the glass that repells water droplets etc. I highly recommend Andersen
Andersen better be better at 4 times the price. The frame and sash are made with wood dust and resin. It is a composite of sorts they developed. I just got 6 different window quotes. Andersen $17,000. Ha ha... Heard every sales pitch and saw samples from 6 companies. Andersen was x2 to x4 more than all the other quotes. Went with Window World 6 yrs ago to replace 5 windows. They are great. Now I just replaced the remaining 6 windows on home Dec 2023. The WW quality, price, and installation were far better. Double hung vinyl windows. U factor 0.28 SHGC 0.18. Could I get better windows? Better specs? Foam filled frame? Yes. Champion makes a better window but was twice the price of Window World. The Champion had better specs but not enough for price premium for me. I don't plan on living in this home forever. The WW windows are a better values in my opinion. My 19 yr old home had original aluminum frames. Several windows had moisture in-between panes. With the good vinyl and low-e glass, I will save on energy, electricity, summer, and gas winter. The other premium cost winfows fo not have significantly better energy saving. They are JUST windows, however... Andersen are nice but mostly hype. They will not perform significantly better or last significantly longer. Of all the window companies I talked to, Andersen was the least fun to deal with and most arrogant. Are they good windows? Some offer longer warranty, lifetime service... read the fine print. Also windows last a long time and require little maintenance. My windows from Window World are serilized and can be replaced if damaged. Also, installation is critical. The local Window World franchise has dedicated employees who have experience for a decade or more. It's all they do. Some companies hire whoever they can find, "Stan in a Van", little experience. The crew that installater. First 5 windows 6 yrs ago installed the rest of my windows 6 yrs later, last month. Installation is key. They did a great job. I checked my windows and 32F outside, inside window is at room Temp.
I sell windows. The main way a consumer can know if its a quality windkw is look at the warranty. The back side is where all the exclusions will be. A better built and installed window will have a lifetime parts and labor warranty and only exclude acts of god, which wouldn't be fair to make a window company pay fir anyway. Most sales people will not actually show you theres warranty. Theyll just say it has a lifetime warranty. Read the fine print.
Thanks Jay for the information! I would like for you to have given us the information about the best windows. You have done the research; like a doctor goes to medical school. I don't want to go to medical school just to buy windows! I would be happy to pay you a fee for doing my research. Thank You!
What do you think of castle windows? I am about to spend a large sum ne would really appreciate your advice. If you do consulting, I am willing to utilize that as well. Thanks.
Finally pulling the trigger on replacement Windows, had a HD rep here early trying to push Simonton. Doing research, never knew about the chamber count. Trying to remember his sample. Thank you…..checking out Anderson online, wondering if I should go “Fibrex” 🤔
Simonton makes great vinyl windows, they typically come between 9-13 Chambers. Andersen’s fibrex is slightly more durable BUT I’ve heard installers who don’t like them because when screwing them in if they crack you have to order a new windows, where vinyl has some flexibility and is less likely to crack.
Thank you for this! Have you heard anything on Impreza window, through window works? Was I fooled by the great salesman? I can’t find much online about them… panicking.
Great video Jay very informative. We are in the process of getting smart on vinyl windows to potentially open a small window manufacturing business Mexico. Any guidance you ca provide in terms of a sweet spot in terms of value? The Mexican market may not be able to buy high end windows in volume, but may a solid mid grade window would work. Happy to reach out directly for some consulting on this. Thank you again.
Hi, I live in Dallas Ft. worth area. Could you give me information on window installation companies I can trust for a good job?? I want Andersen or Marvin, etc. If They don’t do a good job, the windows don’t mater, huh. Andersen gave me a 30,000 quote for 7 windows and patio door. With Pella they were low on the color I wanted. Dark brown or Bronze, in and out. Thank you!
the problem with expensive windows is they really aren't that much more energy effcient than a cheaper one. You can get R5 windows but they cost 2x more than R2.5 windows!!!!! And R2.5 is equivalent to 1" of fiberglass or some really thick thermal curtains. Not sure why no one in the USA sells thermal R10 window shutters like they have in europe!!!! Almost all windows have terrible thermal effciency even the expensive ones, so it makes sense to just cover them up with thermal shutters at night to prevent heat loss.
Im in Florida and my home requires hurricane resistant windows. Im between window worlds 8000 impact series and Pellas impact series. I know Wincore makes window worlds windows but cant really breakdown the difference. $6000 price difference. Any suggestions would be helpful.
The Window World Window is a fantastic window but their MI window is probably superior to the Wincore also Wincore only makes a double hung in Impact while MI makes a single hung and that matters as egress is a major issue with double hung windows , I had Window World install new windows and doors after Ian and not only were they almost half the cost due to economy of scale (They’re a huge company) but their lifetime warranty is far more likely to actually pay off as they’re unlikely to go out of business any time soon
@@chollister08you must work for them. They are one of the worst rated and reviewed window installers in the state. Mainly because they are a sales chain. They are cheal because they use a junk window, wincore, thats lifetime warranty holds up about as much as paper airplane in a hurricane. They also use the cheapest subcontractors and materials giving their workmanship 1 to 3 years life rang with some seeint problems instantly. Dont EVER go with a chain company in fl unless you want to do the job 3 times over
not sure if anyone cares but if you are bored like me atm then you can watch all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother recently =)
Provia has two lines I used to sell Provia windows. They insert fiberglass rails in their Endure series window, which means the vinyl isn’t thick enough or is missing enough chambers to support by itself. I would recommend Simonton windows if your going vinyl.
Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us as consumers ! This video was so informative! I need your book!
You are so welcome!

Hey Jay what do you think of Soft Lite Imperial LS? I am getting the feeling of blah.
They offer triple pane but my problem with them isn't their glass packages, its their framing system.
@@jayjohnson-ge5to Are the frames just old vinyl that sucks or what's the inside scoop Jay!!??
Softlite Elements > Imperial
I hired Jay asa consultant. He is the best. Worth every penny to get you the right product and contract you will be signing.
How do they compare to Provia windows?
Provia has two lines I used to sell Provia windows. They insert fiberglass rails in their Endure series window, which means the vinyl isn’t thick enough or is missing enough chambers to support by itself. I would recommend Simonton windows if your going vinyl.
ProVia >>>>> simonton
What about Great Lake windows? I know they are owned by ply gem just like simonton
Wel explained, thank you
That looks like MI windows vs Mathews brothers
Btw we got some nurses and doctors that are no good. I know. I’m a medical professional. Lol.
I like Dako windows.
no sound
need a better mic tho dude
Yeah, the content is superb. Sound is ... sketchy.
To me, it sounded like his mic was touching his outer shirt, and each time he moved, we heard the scratching sound of his shirt on the microphone.
Did you just get out of bed? Dude, button your shirt! Horrible audio quality.
