  • The time has come to seriously look at a proper seeder, the efforts of hand seeding and using the flail mower just won't cut it over the property. We had an opportunity to use a new model (Cosmo Bully 10 disc seeder). Taking this opportunity with both hands we can really see the benefits of the no till disc seeder. With very minimal soil disturbance the choice was spot on rather than a tillage seeder. The seeder cuts a predetermined depth for the seed which is also acting as mini key line cut directing water to ridges when seeding on a gradient from contour. The journey begins as our aim is to introduce over 15 species of perennial grasses for all the different seasons over the next two years.

Hey! Loved the video. How did the germination go after the trial?

Hey David, the germination was good. Some areas germinated really quickly and others took their time. I was in this paddock today and was surprised that the seeds i thought i lost where obviously waiting for better conditions. I would say that there would be 95% strike rate so far. I was mulching some old blackberry canes and underneath were all these bright green blades of grass all in rows.

Hey Casey, I've had to put this on the back burner. I've been focusing on the pasture improvement this winter. I'll be picking it up again shortly once I've cleared the the back log of smaller projects. Plus the solar is better this year not as many cloudy days. Thanks again cheers

Hi - Sorry I didn't know your name - I've just ordered my Cosmo Bully Seeder - arrives next week for our small farm in Albury. Have you done blended seed in one seed box and fertilizer in the other seed box ? Did you need to use weights ? Another owner has buckets of concrete on front tray
    Cheers
    Kevin

Hey Kevin, I'm not using fertiliser but have used that box for blending the seeds. Eg - plantain in the small gauge and legumes seeds in the larger gauge. I haven't needed weights as yet as I chase the rains. I've only seeded after good rain helping with germination. When I was trialing the unit the ground was dry and had little cutting penetration. The unit is fantastic and you won't have any issues. If you have any questions post your number and I'll reach out. Cheers

Gday mate great video I think you mentioned that you hired this seeder just wondering where you hired it from?

Hey Trent, this was a showroom special. To finalise the deal I asked for a week of hire which was somewhat a small deposit. This unit was a showroom product. I can certainly tell you that once you use it you'll keep it. Just ask around and see what you can discuss on deals. This unit came from Shepparton Vic. Hope this helps. Take care.
