Shinsui is that person that’s willing to cross the line between good and evil if it’s needed. I enjoy that as it makes sense during war and it’s realistic.

Yamamoto does the same thing. Yamamoto is more ruthless, decisive and driven than Shunsui. The only differences between the two are that Shunsui is more laid back and that he survived the war.

This brought me back to the fight with Starrk. He asked about Lilinette and in the conversation it almost sounded like he would’ve gut her just to unbalance Starrk’s focus but kept reassuring him that she’s fine because she’s fighting Ukitake. Starrk catches on and immediately calls Lillinette over to fuse because i think he wasn’t sure if Shunsui was gonna casually go over to Ukitake’s fight and gut Lilinette really quick. So he did what he thought was safe for Lilinette and decided to fuse.

As I said Shunsui's philosophy is perfect for his status as Captain Commander. He knows that 'honor' and the 'proper' way to end someone in war is absurd and would rather go for the decapitation strike to end the war, rescuing his side/subordinates. And we see a brighter side to his psyche and capitancy after the war, particularly his cooperation with reformers to bring about true changes to Soul Society for the first time.

He planned for Ichigo to become dismembered as the new Soul King... maybe not exactly, but he expected Ichigo to stay in SS forever despite his family and friends.

@@metal87powerThat was Ichibei, Kyoraku knew Ichigo's power could be too great to reside in world of the living without killing the humans he held close. The concern is it would be a repeat of Aizen setting foot in Karakura town and beings were crushed by his presence.

Shunsui's appointment to Head Captain really was the best decision for his own character, and it was refreshing to see him be willing to make the difficult or "dirty" decisions necessary for the Soul Society's survival, though at the same time I would have liked to have seen what character changes and interesting possibilities might have happened if Central 46 appointed Unohana to be the next Head Captain after Yamamoto, considering her uncontested power among the Gotei 13 and thousand years of experience.
Also I wonder how many people will know this is a reupload 😉

    • @kylemma33
      @kylemma33 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Uncontested? She doesn't have uncontested power, over all the other captains. The only person in the gotei 13 that had uncontested power is Yamamoto. There was a huge gulf between him and the rest of the gotei 13.

I think it's safe to say that Unohana was never gonna become a general. It just wasn't in her personality and she was too loyal to Yamamoto and from the moment he died it was obvious she would share his fate willingly.

Shunsui made the decision to free Aizen. Without Aizen, the Soul reapers don't win. He is a pragmatic leader that understands what needs to be done to win. Even if it means upsetting his subordinates.

Katen Kyokotsu’s ability to alter rules and scripts to suit Shunsui’s needs is very fitting for his pragmatic nature. Just as he is very quick to change coats when one doesn’t fit the situation, or change games completely on the fly. Even going so far as to alter Katen Kyokotsu herself to hide an extra sword - a request she seems happy to have obliged. Pragmatism suits an angel of death very well. And not only does it come naturally to Kyōraku, he also inspires it happily in others.

Would have been interesting to have the full story behind Ichibei and Yamamoto's interactions in the past 2,000 years ago. Likely after Ichibei took Yhwach's semi complete Almighty (which only could see the past), he probably went to Yamamoto and said "don't lose" and then vanished to the palace above to let Yama lead his band 13 against the LightReich Army.

Honestly he is the only candidate whose promotion to Captain Commander would have made sense outside of Ukitake, but his illness disqualifies him as you cannot have an absentee leader, especially in war.
Kenpachi and Mayuri are DQ'd for obvious reasons.
Byakuya is still too beholden to tradition and wouldn't make the controversial decisions that ultimately won the war.
Hitsugaya still needed to go through puberty.
And the rest of the captains are too new or inexperienced to warrant the promotion.

Would Yamamoto have agreed to sacrifice Ichigo as the new soul king? Unlike Shunsui, he was very much against 'using' the help of humans. I wonder if this openness to tossing aside 'honor' etc could technically open Shunsui to dabble in more 'evil' than Yama (the current one, not the crazy first Gen Yama)

Always wish Unohana had a different story instead of being the 1st kenpachi and was just as op. And she became the head commander. Or at least still alive as the 4th captain.
And I wish kenpachi would've found another way by going up to squad zero with Ichigo and Renji to train and faced what was holding him back there

I believe yama was the best leader the gotei needed a 1000 yrs ago during an era of turmoil . The old man should have retired like atleast 500 yrs before the main story and let fresh blood lead the current peaceful era . He was wayyy too outdated

@@Crisbellarius Yama got soft. He would have obliterated Aizen if he wanted to, but before he could use his Bankai he was too badly hurt by Aizen's trickery. I suppose Yama still treated Aizen like a son of sorts and counted for his redemption after severe old-school punishment. Later he didn't heal his lost arm and let his guard down.

I think his one flaw was that he was too proud for his own good. He overestimated himself to the point it was too late with Aizen. He refused to get help from others and that's why he never restored his left arm. And to some degree I think he never retired even though he should, because he knew that Juha would become a threat again in future and he wanted to put an end to him all on his own.
