What a terrific idea. As you mentioned, the texture and “noise” are an added bonus. I love paper that satisfies my tactile and hearing senses. Btw, I often use essential oils to add “smell” to my journals, so you have sight, sound, touch and smell…!!!!
Also, you could do what I do. When I find a napkin I like and want to do the technique with the pattern on the napkins. I scan the napkins with my scanner, then I can print it on a heavier paper such as vellum, tracing paper, etc. :)
Dear Lolly, I can’t thank you enough for your advice to razor off with a ruler and craft knife the uneven excess of the interior journal pages. I’ve made two JJs; each time it was crazy-making, trying to cut off excess with my trimmer, first the right side of one page, then the left, until everything fit inside the cover, but nearly as unevenly as when I started. Also, I too watched Nik’s Video, now yours, and am ready to go outside with my giant piece of cardboard, ,my spray shield, and start spraying some napkins. In addition, you might find excellent pointers on decoupage through Patti Elhoff’s tutorials. She’s done nothing but decoupage for like decades. For instance, always spread the decoupage glue from the center out. Patio elf. Upcycle with Decoupage. I’m so glad to now be a steady viewer of yours!
Any moment now here in Richmond Virginia there is about to be an ice storm moving thru slowly...but who cares .. i have paper to spray paint!! Im going outside... Super Excited bc i lovvvve anything that resembles vellum or glassine... you are 👏 AWESOME!! Just know one thing...Nik the Booksmith ... YOU ARE LOVED!!!!
This is fantastic! I too am very tactile and one of the reasons I love papercraft is the feel and the noise. I love love love it. The journal turned out beautiful! Natasha from Treasure Books led me to you and so glad she did! Love your channel. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi I am so glad your video popped up-your idea and tips are so good. I love how you covered the jar with the plastic wrap to keep the modge podge from drying out. I love reading the comments also--they all are so helpful-Thanks so much for making this video--It is great to have this technique on the back burner--have a blessed day.
That was so clever! From a Glassine Napkin to a finished journal in less than 30 minutes! So very pretty and the embezzlement’s were a stroke of genius. Thank you for sharing this idea.
This is an awesome idea. I've made them using baby oil but it's a huge mess. I've got tons of napkins. Tfs. Oh a little tip. When you're mod podging, if you will tear a piece of plastic wrap and ball it up, it makes the perfect tool for smoothing your project and doesn't stick or tear. 😉
The sound and clarity of the sprayed napkin almost reminds me of sewing pattern paper. I love it. This is a must try! Great take on Nik's DIY Glassine!
@@LollyPalooza You could also tack the napkin to the freezer paper with an iron. It will peel right off. I have one of those irons that have a small triangular head which will work great.
Thank you for sharing this technique. I have a ton of napkins. I watch Nik's video on making glassine paper and never even thought about making glassine napkins. I love the flower idea too.
This is so creative, thank you for sharing! I saw the video Nik had posted awhile back but I kept thinking that can be the beginning of so many other ideas and here you are! 😊 thanks again for sharing.
I love this project. I ordered the twine and tapestry needle from your store not knowing exactly what I was going to use it for; now I know one thing to use it on. I love me some Tuesday Morning napkins!!! I usually hit the discount section in the back of the store first to see which ones they have there, then I go to the other section where they are kept. Thanks again for the inspiration your provide. Have a blessed day
Love this! I watched Nik the booksmith's video the other day, it was wonderful! I just love how one person has this really cool idea and other crafters just run with it and light bulbs are going on all over the place! TFS! Ps very cute napkins!
Great ideas. Have you seen the technique of adding modpodge to the paper and letting it dry. Then add your napkin on top of the dry modpodge and iron on top of napkin with piece of parchment on top. The heat of iron will melt the modpodge and fuse it to napkin with no wrinkles at all
no! Nice idea! I have placed my card stock down, then a sheet of plastic wrap, then the napkin and a protective paper such as parchment. I have ironed that together so that the plastic wrap melted and adhered the napkin to the card stock
Hi Lolly! What a fun project! I can actually say that I don't have any pretty napkins, just everyday white napkins. As much as I like this project, I don't think I would do it simply because I don't have an outdoor space to spray. Thanks for sharing! I really like how you explore all the crafty option. God bless you and yours, Tree
I have been opening my garage door and spraying, and then I lowered the garage door to about 8" off the ground so it stayed ventilated while it was drying.
There are some tutorials on TH-cam where they paint one side of the napkin's single layer with 50/50 mixture white glue and water. Let dry, do other side, let dry, repeat. Use plastic side of freezer paper to work on and it won't stick. This is supposed to make a faux vellum or faux glassine "paper".
Omgosh this is fantastic! You answered all the questions I had as you went along! I love working w napkins n I cannot wait to get this spray to try! I have been using double sided rolls of tape to adhere my napkins to paper to make card fronts! This is gonna make it so much easier!!! Thank you thank you!!!!
My spray box is a cut down cardboard carton. I use straight pins in the corners and middle edges. It pierces through the paper and box and holds it down quite well. I always trim the edge off my paper after it’s dry anyway ( sometimes the napkin ripples along the edge or doesn’t get quite enough spray) so the pin holes get cut away
@@LollyPalooza yeah, but then for most of us paper addicts, watching nik will have sparked similar trains of thoughts, so inspiring. Really liking the crackle of the one ply, you're a bad influence too, just bought more napkins to do this XD

First time viewer here. Cool tip! I have another use for the plain back ply of the napkins. I use archival ink and stamp images on it to make tissue similar to the first napkin you used in this video! Use for decoupage or you can make this glassine paper with it.
I really like the way Modpodge feels. I always mod podge all my covers because it gives that layer of protection. Thank you so much for sharing this. I will have to try spraying my napkins.
I love this! Ordering napkins and already purchased the Rustoleum spray! I can't wait to make these and add them to my journal. They are gorgeous!! Thank you, Lolly!!
I just love watching you. I watched a video posted this week doing this. Thought it was their idea but of course you did it first. 😝. It’s calming listening to you. Love how you explain things I would normally do. You save me. lol
What a cute idea. If you’ve never tried to adhere your napkin to paper with plastic wrap, you should really try it. It comes out amazing! It’s very easy to do. It’s far quicker than the mod Podge. Technique.
I have lots of napkins. I have been collecting for along time. Where did you get the small leaf one at? I use Saran Wrap as glue. I iron my napkins on cardstock with it. It is so beautiful. It turns out absolutely flat. You can add Mod Podge on top. You can iron the napkins on any hard flat surface that can stand the heat. I place a couple pieces of tablet paper over the napkin. It's also very fast, no drying time. Try it you'll love it. You gave me a great idea on making some napkin flowers. Thanks so much.
OK just so I understand (because that sounds really interesting) you have card stock on the bottom and then you put a piece of saran wrap or kitchen plastic and then you put the napkin on top and then put another piece of paper to protect the napkin on top of that and then iron it. And you're saying that the plastic melts and it adheres the napkin to the card stock because that is so cool. And if so I have to try that today. Look forward to hearing back from you, hopefully 💖💖
Some say that method works, others don't. You can iron the napkin, separate layers first, to the plastic side of freezer paper too. More tutorials on this method seem to be successful.
This is such an awesome idea!! I did it the last couple days and now am creating some really cool stuff with my new stronger napkins!! Yes, a napkin trade is needed. Although, if I leave them out, my dog thinks they're a little treat for her to munch on!! (the fresh ones not the sprayed ones!)
I am also wondering how gift wrapping paper would work, but unless it's super cheap wrapping paper, I think it's too thick. Maybe cheap wrapping paper from the Dollar Tree.
LOVE the CRINKY!!!! I love the feeling of old crinkle paper!! I do have a BIG stash of napkins. I don't have that spray, but I do have other stuff, going to head outside and see what happens. Thank you so much for all the tips!! Love your videos!!
Great ideas! Those black and white napkins are lovely! One thing... And it's just a pet peeve of mine so don't take this personally, it just irks me, is... You are INKING the edges, not distressing them. People always think distress ink makes "things" distressed, it does not, it makes them inked. Distress ink is water reactive... Which means the ink ITSELF is distressable, not the object it's on! It is an ink that has been made to react with spritzing, creating a blotchy "distressed" effect of the original solid colour. I'm no ink "chef" lol so can't remember the exact ingredients the ink has that allows it to do that, but there are videos where tim holtz explains how it works. The newer distress oxide inks turn white and chalky when spritzed giving a blanched kind of look. So if you like making your page edges look old and distressed, any old brown ink pad can be used, it doesn't have to be branded distress ink! Most people pay more for distress inks, yet never use them to their full potential, if you just want aged page edges, buy a cheap ink pad! 😁😁😁 EDIT*** found a link where tim holtz explains xxxxxxx th-cam.com/video/sdQ21YvFFVA/w-d-xo.html

@@LollyPalooza thank you for your positive response! I was expecting my head being bitten off when i really didn't mean it badly! I think you could iron the napkin in between two pieces of waxed paper with scrap white paper on either side so not to ruin your iron. To get the glassine look also.
Shelly, again I am amazed with what all you do in a day. Good exercise too. That zucchini muffin looked so good. I was sitting here kinda bored while I was letting my nails dry and your video popped up. I was so happy. Thank you also for your information about being able to switch swerve for monkfruit without adjusting recipe measurements. My Lakanto monkfruit comes tomorrow. I may have to order that Southern Keto Cookbook. I have been tempted for a while. You are definitely an influencer.
Cool idea. Ives watching another YTer and she does it with Matt Laminate. I was things going that years ago we did something with wax paper.. can’t remember. So fun to watch your videos. Thanks
I don’t dispose of the first and second ply because I use them. I love using the in between ply because there is often a very light pattern on them that is nice for collaging. The totally white layer makes a great looking faux rice paper. You can adhere leaves and dried flower petals on it which gives it a mulberry paper-like appearance. There are a couple of videos on TH-cam about how to do this. I’ve varied the technique I saw in the videos by using rice paper sketching sheets as a base.
I am so very excited to try this I don't have that exact product that you use but I do have something very similar so I'm gonna give it a try before I go spend more money but thank you so much for sharing this I feel like my junk journals are gonna look one million times better because I have way too many cute napkins that I've traded over the years
Another tip for what to do with the white backs of napkins is to stamp images onto, and make your own collage type napkins. Nothing goes to waste. Great ideas everyone. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
The flower was beautiful. This is a great idea, thank you. The first person I saw the little dots on the ends of your sewing thread was Clare from My Creative Spirit. Love your ideas & videos.
This is the first of your videos I've watched. I very much enjoyed it. Your voice is very pleasant and calming, reminds me of Elizabeth Elliott. Thanks for sharing.
great idea...could you use these as a background on a scrapbook page? attaching them with glue or mod podge to a patterned paper or white or black cardstock?
I would on the flowers use your cording and needle to secure with a tiny pretty bead in the center. You can buy all kinds of beads or make your own ...paper beads. But once secured with the thread - you can fluff the petals. There are excellent videos on making paper flowers that you could use the napkin paper as your base instead of the tissue paper or fabric they use. I might use the card stock or colored paper piece as backing and contrast layer to show it off too.
What a terrific idea. As you mentioned, the texture and “noise” are an added bonus. I love paper that satisfies my tactile and hearing senses. Btw, I often use essential oils to add “smell” to my journals, so you have sight, sound, touch and smell…!!!!

You are definitely an influencer.
ha! Thank you for commenting, but I am not Shelly and don't have a zucchini muffin :)
Oops
Probably fuzzy cut the individual flowers from the black and white napkins. 😍😍😍 beautiful!
that would be pretty, too
Fabulous idea! Thinking gift wrap tissue as well ❤
Yes! Thank you!
thank you, this was very helpful and I learned something new as well.
You are so welcome! Thanks a bunch for watching :)
Thank you so much forcoming by my channel! I'm loving all your artsy beautiful creations! Gonna keep watching! 💚
You bet! TFW
Great video, great ideas and tips, the paper flower came out so pretty I'll have to give a try, thank you.
thank you so much
Cool idea. Ives watching another YTer and she does it with Matt Laminate. I was things going that years ago we did something with wax paper.. can’t remember. So fun to watch your videos. Thanks
Very cool! I never heard of that
Lots of good tips. Thank you.
many thanks
I love your Paris napkins!!! Such a fun idea!!
it's a super pretty one. That shop had several Paris ones. My friend and I each bought a pack and then shared half of each
I don’t dispose of the first and second ply because I use them. I’ve varied the technique I saw in the videos by using rice paper sketching sheets as a base.
awesome! Thanks for watching!
Fantastic idea
thank you a bunch
what a fantastic project! now I will be looking at napkins in a whole different light! :)
thank you. Have fun! Tuesday Morning always has beautiful napkins
Your are a great teacher, love your journal and the excellent tips. Looking forward to having more time with you. 😀
thank you so much!
Brilliant Lolly, must try this xx
thank you, Donna! Big hugs across the ocean!
I am so very excited to try this I don't have that exact product that you use but I do have something very similar so I'm gonna give it a try before I go spend more money but thank you so much for sharing this I feel like my junk journals are gonna look one million times better because I have way too many cute napkins that I've traded over the years
oh great then! Use up those napkins!
Another tip for what to do with the white backs of napkins is to stamp images onto, and make your own collage type napkins. Nothing goes to waste. Great ideas everyone. Take care and God bless.
Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
thank you. Yes, a couple other viewers suggested this, too Must try!
The flower was beautiful. This is a great idea, thank you. The first person I saw the little dots on the ends of your sewing thread was Clare from My Creative Spirit. Love your ideas & videos.
thanks so much
love the covered ends of the cords
thank you
Love this idea and have used it on several different projects. Thank you for the inspiration!
great! I'm excited about using the scraps for layering embellishments
@@LollyPalooza I am a scrapbooker and have been backing cut files with these napkins. It turns out so awesome!
I love the parchment tie with the tapestry needle. It looks better than stapples. But it is atill tricky to tie.
it is. Tightening the cord is the tricky part with the pamphlet stitch
I LOVE that black and white napkin! I'm going to have to go to Tuesday Morning to see if I can find it.
it's a great napkin! Love the design
I so enjoyed watching you and listening to you create thank you.
thank you! It was fun doing experiments
Thanks for sharing this great technique!
you bet! Thanks for watching
TFS! Have tried this and like the way it turned out. Also, serviette is also a French word for napkin.
so the Americans are just weird. Again. :)
I never find beautiful napkins like this.
I have heard that there are decoupage groups on Facebook that do napkin swaps.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, I'm a jewelry maker, may use the flower technique!!
sweet! Sounds fun
Way cool video! Thanks! I have so many napkins!
great!
That is so cool.. I am wanting to make some travel journals. And that is just a really neat idea.
it's fun! I remember getting a journal years ago that had an occasional lovely thin sheet in it just for looks. This reminds me of that.
This is the first of your videos I've watched. I very much enjoyed it. Your voice is very pleasant and calming, reminds me of Elizabeth Elliott. Thanks for sharing.
aww thank you so much. That's a compliment :)
I Love the idea of the necklaces!
thanks so much
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
Love how you created the flower! Amazing how you can take so few things and create beautiful pieces. 😍
and to use the napkin sraps as embellishments. I think these pieces will be fun to play with
great idea...could you use these as a background on a scrapbook page? attaching them with glue or mod podge to a patterned paper or white or black cardstock?
if you put on black cardstock, you'd have a hard time seeing the image of the napkin. Also, probably not archival quality or acid free?
neat idea about putting something on th e ends of the binding thread!
Thanks for watching! I'm sure I saw someone a long time ago do that, so it's not original to me.
I would love to see your craft room/craft stash lol i bet its great!!
Right now it's a tremendous disaster zone. Ugh. Here it is when it was clean: th-cam.com/video/IH0XtSbxxWs/w-d-xo.html I am in an unfinished basement
The flower is a great way to use up little pieces of napkin
yes, and they are so pretty!
I might use the card stock or colored paper piece as backing and contrast layer to show it off too.
thanks for the input. I make paper flowers, but usually with card stock, rice paper decoupaged on card stock, or Kraft-tex
Thank you for sharing these great ideas! 👍👍
thanks for watching
