In this episode we are introduced to Sergeant Charmaine who is a RPT Officer based at the Mt. Wellington Police station in Tāmaki Makaurau. Outside her full time role with the Police, Charmaine plays rugby for the Black Ferns and Auckland Storm.

I live in the USA and the police are not like the police in NZ..you are soo dedicated hardworking and seem to really care about the people that you guys serve! Its really cool to see the difference between the police here and you guys..thanks for the vlogs i really love them!! And i know i dont live there but thanks for making the world safer..i am not fond of the police here at all they do what they want like thugs but you guus really care about the public!! Thanks for the interesting vlog!!

Any idea why they are hired as thugs in the states ? Any idea hmmm let me guess couldn’t be because America has the highest murder rates in the developed world is it ? In fact your murder rates in the USA especially from gun crimes are amongst the rates of third world countries . USA is a first class country with third world crime rates and you wonder why police seem to be thuggish
You're a part of the problem. The vast majority of TBL in the US are good, don't let the few bad apples ruin it for everyone. Plus, the situation in the US is COMPLETELY different than in NZ so it's unfair to compare.

Very different for most police Sergeants here in the States. Sergeants here are mostly supervisory. To see a Sergeant running radar or writing an accident report would be almost unheard of. As a subordinate on the Sergeant's squad, you would be expected to relieve him/her of those duties so that he/she could monitor the sector and handle supervisory duties. Would any New Zealand officers comment on if the Sergeant's duties in this episode are normal fare?. Very interesting series of vlogs so far.

Surprised to see that massive old radio for patrol! Looks like an old Motorola... Why haven't the forced moved onto something like the 15 year old Motorola MTH-800? Or something more up to date like the Sepura’s SC2? An invesment indeed to change the radio, but lugging that thing around and then having to use the attached mic, it's just unnecessary weight that's being carried around.

You dont carry a side arm in NZ ?
das wright NZ police do not routinely carry firearms. They carry pepper spray, tasers and batons. All are trained in the use of use of the Glock pistol and Bushmaster rifle and wear a holster attachment for the pistol to enable carriage of the firearm if necessary. Firearms are stored in safes in the boot of their vehicles and can be used with a supervisor’s permission. After the mosques shootings all NZ police carried arms for a time in response. At the end of this month Armed Response Teams are being trialled in 3 areas in NZ. These teams will be routinely armed and support frontline officers.
NZ citizens have not been disarmed. You can still apply for a firearms licence and buy firearms.
