    Was diagnosed at 12 years and got monthly penicillin injections till 18. My cardiologist advised then that I could reduce on the frequency to once or twice a year. It's been over 10 years and I feel great. It's important to run tests every year just to be certain all is well.

    Nice explanation.. This to everyone who worries alot about this.I got this disease when I was 9, then took penicillin injection for 4 years then tablets for next 7 years..Stopped taking medication without doctor's advice when I was 20..But I took acupuncture treatment for 2.5 years (once or twice in a month). Now I'm 25 My ASO titre level has reduced to 250+ from 400. (It should be below 200).. Anyways I feel healthy and mostly prefer home remedies for any controllable ill..Be confident and try homeopathy or acupuncture instead of Allopathy.. God bless ❤️

      Hello Shelly. Rheumatic fever was indeed once common among children in many countries, including Australia. Fever with joint pain and swelling are the most common symptoms. Inflammation of the heart is also common, and it is this heart involvement that can result in rheumatic heart disease.
      Some people with mild rheumatic heart disease do not experience any symptoms. Others report various symptoms and levels of disability, depending on the severity of disease, their age, and other factors. People who have rheumatic heart disease should be under the long-term care of a heart specialist who will design a care plan based on their individual circumstances, and prescribe medications to help manage their symptoms.

    Hello,
    I've had my tonsils problems for years... after few years in, my heart problem started. l developed RHD after a few years and was told to finally took out my tonsils. I took an heart scan test (think its called EKG or EEG) and the heart beat patterns were missing lot of beats. Right now i feel that my heart would palpitate and skip a beat very often especially when i wake and before bed. I can feel it in my chest and my pulse when i get irregular heart beats. I am currently 28 years old, do i need to take meds to control it or do i need to get a surgery (i really want to solve this issue).Any help would be appreciated ... sorry about my English as i am no native speaker.

    I have a question, I just got diagnosed with rheumatic fever, symptoms started a month ago. I still have leg joint pains when I try to walk, and I still have body jerks when I’m about to fall asleep. Sometimes I have finger movement out of no where. They put me on oral penicillin v potassium 250mg, taking it twice a day. Not the injections. Is this correct? I’m not taking any other medication just the penicillin. And I know it’s different for all but will these symptoms I mentioned go away?

      There is no 'cure' for rheumatic fever. People with rheumatic fever should work with their doctor to take measures that will prevent further recurrent episodes. www.rhdaustralia.org.au/what-acute-rheumatic-fever

      It can't be treated with medicine unless he goes to surgery, replacing the affected valves. Medicines will only "temporarily" cover the symptoms and pain he's feeling. Tell him to see a doctor.

    • @RHDAustralia
      @RHDAustralia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people who have non-chorea ARF will have fever. Fever in ARF is defined as oral, tympanic or rectal temperature greater than or equal to 38 degrees (in high risk populations) either recorded at presentation or with a reliable history of fever described during the current illness. Always consult a medical professional for further investigations.
